Bush Sr looking at coaching position at Ole Miss according to Sam Webb
https://twitter.com/SamWebb77/status/1217876374112915457
I know that I am not a football coach, but with two openings why are they not looking to bring on Bush Sr? Seems like he could recruit, knows the position, etc. Such a strange turn of events to where we were going into November of 2016
January 16th, 2020 at 1:50 PM ^
Maybe because they don't think he's a good coach/fit for Michigan? Just a guess.
January 16th, 2020 at 1:53 PM ^
So they just kept him as ancillary staff for 3 years only to come to that conclusion?
January 16th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
You realize he was hired as a backbench coach because he happened to be the father of our star linebacker, right? That star is now gone. The math seems pretty simple.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:03 PM ^
So Bush was hired for being Devin’s father, but Partridge was hired based on merit and not Rashan?
Just odd Bush Sr is not moving forward here.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:09 PM ^
Maybe Partridge was a good coach and Bush Sr. was not a good coach.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:47 PM ^
Built a very good highschool program, developed multiple good players, likely to be very strong on the recruiting trail, very high level NFL experience as a player. There's lots of reasons why he seems like a great hire from our perspective as fans... but you are right that we don't know all the details
January 16th, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
Maybe I'm missing something, but I would rather have a proven NFL hall of fame player, who's coached a very good high school team, been with the staff several years, and wants to be a coach as the guy coaching on the defense over a guy who runs a weight room.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:34 PM ^
On the surface that would seem logical. But none of us know which one is really a better coach and fit for the job
January 16th, 2020 at 2:41 PM ^
When was Devin Bush Sr. Inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame?
I get that the dude had a 8 year NFL career (amongst 3 teams) and won a super bowl with the greatest show on turf, but are we just making up accolades for the guy now?
January 16th, 2020 at 3:03 PM ^
proven NFL hall of fame player
Wait, what? Who is the hall of fame player?
6.5.0January 16th, 2020 at 4:29 PM ^
1. Way to lose all credibility in your post when you call Devin Bush Sr. a Hall of Famer. Facts are important dude.
2. Maybe after several years DBS has decided he wants to do something new or JH has evaluated that hes not good enough to be a full-time coach.
3. We don't know all of the details of anything so maybe stop getting in a tizzy about it and let it play out.
January 16th, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
Hot take...
January 16th, 2020 at 2:15 PM ^
Can put me on the podcast with these spicy takes.
January 16th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
This is what I'm thinking. There have been several opportunities to internally promote him. Maybe Harbaugh doesn't think his ability warrants a promotion. Is it such a crazy thought?
January 16th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
I'm not sure we should really trust Harbaugh's judgment 100% anymore, to be honest. Think about how upset you would have been if any of those "Harbaugh to NFL" rumors were true in years past. Think about how much less upset you would be now. It is what it is at this point.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:00 PM ^
Harbaugh wins 9-10 games per year, not 3-5. Let's not pretend he has no clue how to evaluate an assistant coach.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:03 PM ^
I'm not saying not to trust his judgment at all. I'm saying that we used to think his judgment should be trusted to a level much higher than any other above-average to good power 5 coach.
January 16th, 2020 at 3:19 PM ^
He thinks Judge Judy should be on the Supreme Court.
January 16th, 2020 at 8:26 PM ^
Considering some of the clowns on the Court, he's not wrong...
January 16th, 2020 at 9:58 PM ^
The beauty of that comment is that anyone who knows anything about the court can mentally compile his or her own list of clowns, and the lists will be all over the place based on what the compiler thinks of judicial philosophies—or maybe based on what he or she has heard on cable news, depending on the channel.
January 17th, 2020 at 8:20 AM ^
Not political!!! LOL - that was my goal!!
January 16th, 2020 at 2:41 PM ^
Instead of Bush, Harbaugh hired coaches that have gotten poached for other jobs. That hardly seems like a reason to question his judgment of who to hire now.
January 16th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
Sam Webb is also reporting Michigan is close to hiring Bob Shoop. Bob Shoop is basically the Jim McElwain of defensive coaches. Lorenz posted he is NOT considered a recruiter. In fact his reputation in that area is quite poor. He also wants to be HC or DC again, so this hire makes absolutely no sense on a number of levels. Jim Harbaugh proves once again the guy just doesn't fucking get it. Meanwhile OSU is going to hire Kerry Coombs who is a stud recruiter to be their co-DC/DB coach. The gap is only going to get bigger because Jim Harbaugh doesn't understand how important recruiting is. This hire will rank right up there with Tim Drevno, Pep Hamilton, Jim McElwain, and Greg Jackson as guys who contribute absolutely zilch to recruiting, and we have enough of those guys on staff already. What a sad and disappointing tenure he has had. Hope everyone is prepared for another class outside the top 10 and a 3 loss season that end with OSU kicking the living shit out of us (again).
January 16th, 2020 at 2:00 PM ^
Shawn you are a sad and disappointing man.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:53 PM ^
I believe the word you are looking for is 'child'
January 16th, 2020 at 3:51 PM ^
His name is Bryson Jacksen now!
January 16th, 2020 at 9:41 PM ^
Why? What he’s saying isn’t off base whatsoever. There’s some serious disconnect going on within this program right now, and I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse.
January 16th, 2020 at 10:12 PM ^
WHOOSH.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
You should really disconnect from Michigan football for the good of your own mental health.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
Read UMBig's diary (linked on the front page).
Then think about if Michigan will:
1) allow kids to "not play school"?
2) admit kids with questionable morality?
3) allow kids to only take cyber classes?
4) pay kids/ coaches/ parents (and not one off coaching opportunities)?
Then why would a killer recruiter (who uses any/ all of those tactics) want to come to Michigan? How happy would that guy be? What about the other coaches?
January 16th, 2020 at 2:35 PM ^
His diary is a bunch of bullshit. Anyone who has followed UM football recruiting since Moeller knows top 5 classes were the norm for pretty much the entire 90's and early 2000's. It wasn't until the later Carr years and Rich Rod era that it became a problem, and even then Hoke was able to sign two top 5 classes and for a long time had the #1 class in the country in 2014 before the rash of decommits.
Furthermore when UM hoards all of their football players into general studies and admits kids like Marquis Slocum and Mario Manningham who were barely qualifiers I don't want to hear shit about academics.
If you're mad other schools are paying players then either lead the charge to legalize it or get on board and play by the same rules because there is nothing virtuous in not paying college athletes for their labor.
And even if everything you were saying is true (which it isn't) the solution isn't to hire ANOTHER shit ass recruiter. The solution is to hire the best recruiters in the country, build the best facilities, hire the best support staff, and put on the best on campus visits in the country. Michigan. If you listen to Allen Trieu and Steve Wiltfong podcast yesterday you would know UM needs MAJOR help in their recruiting department and aren't maximizing their resources.
So go ahead and bitch at me if it will make you feel better about our lord and saviour Harbaugh falling way short of expectations because the guy won't invest the time and resources into getting the best players here. Get ready for another 3 loss season everyone.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:52 PM ^
"Anyone who has followed UM football recruiting since Moeller knows top 5 classes were the norm for pretty much the entire 90's and early 2000's."
Why do you think that this is the 90s and early 2000s? College football has changed buddy.
"Get ready for another 3 loss season everyone."
Damn, how will I survive?
January 16th, 2020 at 3:11 PM ^
Guy who knows nothing about recruiting other than pays for 247 subscription tells guy who’s worked in recruiting/talent evaluation that he’s full of shit. Good stuff. Why don’t you create a new username to hide behind for awhile?
January 16th, 2020 at 3:35 PM ^
Yeah what do Steve Wiltfong and Allen Trieu know about recruiting when they say UM's recruiting department is disorganized and they don't have enough coaches who are dogs on the recruiting trail right? Let's just take some bozo's word for it because he wrote a blog. You idiots actually think coaching up 3 stars is the key to beating OSU instead of signing difference makers like Chase Young, Justin Fields, JK Dobbins, and Jeff Okudah. This board is a trip I love it. How many more L's to OSU before you morons jump off the Harbaugh bandwagon? Like would 0-10 get you to stop?
January 16th, 2020 at 3:13 PM ^
Seek help, Maizen.
January 16th, 2020 at 3:27 PM ^
No, they weren’t. That is false.
January 17th, 2020 at 5:07 PM ^
You have serious mental health issues.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:03 PM ^
Shoop is a Pennsylvania guy who left PSU for Miss St, and PSU sued him for 900K for breach of contract.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:06 PM ^
I'm ignoring the rest of this insane post, but shark fucker did a great job with our WR's for the year he was on staff.
January 16th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
Yeah, it's funny seeing a bunch of people complain about the WRs underperforming and assuming it's all on Patterson when they underperformed before McElwain arrived, were really good the year he was at UM, then regressed when he left. Oh, and CMU went from 1-11 to 8-6 in year one. But this place hasn't meant a dumb meme they won't run into the ground, so because Brian et al. found it funny a guy didn't find humor in someone saying he fucked a shark he must be bad at his job.
I don't honestly know how good Shoop is as a recruiter but in his first year at Miss St. they had the nation's #1 defense per S&P+. I don't know what happened this year with Miss St (seems like a lot), but he was a good DC at PSU (kept those early Franklin teams alive when they were gawd awful on offense) as well.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:09 PM ^
How do people end up like this. What is wrong with people lol.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:20 PM ^
Bob Shoop is an elite DC who has coached with Brown on multiple occasions. Camp was his understudy at BC and Shoop was his GA at Yale and his DB coach at UMass. I'm starting to wonder if Brown is going to retire soon and there's a succession plan. He's getting up there.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:37 PM ^
I don't give a flying fuck if he's the second coming of Vince Lombardi. The guy can't recruit and Michigan just lost its two best recruiters. Steve Wiltfong and Allen Trieu just gone done saying UM's recruiting department is a disorganized mess and the assistants have to do all the heavy lifting and this is how Harbaugh replaces these guys? Holy shit you idiots are delusional if you think this is a good idea.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:43 PM ^
Seriously, log off. You are deranged and following Michigan football is making it worse.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:53 PM ^
Let's be honest. We really don't know how good a recruiter Campanile is, and it seems like he doesn't want to do it by passing all these college opportunities to go coach at Miami.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:59 PM ^
I also am hoping for UM to hire an elite recruiter, but I would be happy as hell to have Shoop on the staff. Guy is a great coach. Recruiting isn’t as strong, but if they hire Shoop then add an ace recruiter; I’d take that all day.
January 16th, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
You must have been thrilled when Harbaugh hired Pep Hamilton, Tim Drevno, and Jim McElwain. Jimmy's and Joe's > X's and O's or has everyone missed the OSU-UM game the last two decades.
January 16th, 2020 at 3:28 PM ^
Well Shoop came to the school I used to coach at when he was at PSU and was very impressive.
The kid he was recruiting did not go to PSU but really liked Shoop. So maybe Shoop isn’t a rotten recruiter like you think he is.
Is he elite? No. But let’s not pretend he’d just sit on his ass all offseason.
I do agree that at least one of these open spots needs to be filled with an ace recruiter.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
hey Shawn GFY!!! and if you don't know that means.... it stands for GO FUCK YOURSELF!!! why don't you go back to the dark web Michigan Football message boards where shit like this flies and you, Rick and Yoder can have your little circle jerk...
