OT - THIS THREAD IS OT - Groomsmen Gift Ideas
THIS THREAD IS OT!
Getting married 2/1/20 and trying to find a good groomsmen gift idea. I’m trying to find something relatively practical that will actually get used, not just hauled around from house to house for the next 30+ years of everyone’s lives.
Most of what I see are glasses for beer or whiskey, flasks, cigar stuff, watches, customized bags, wallets, knives etc. Naturally, I’d like my gift to be more special than just any other wedding my guys have been in, but it’s about impossible to find a common gift that’s useful for each guy since they are all so different. I’m considering different gifts for each as a solution.
Curious if anyone has come across any cool gifts in their time? Thanks for the help!
TL;DR: good groomsmen gift idea?

Fuck em. The gift is being in your wedding.

That sounds like an odd ritual to invoke but to each their own I guess

Going to be hard to make each encounter different but we can brainstorm
November 6th, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
maybe just get it over all at once as a group thing.....
November 6th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
Haha... I see what you did there.

What about hookers and blow during the bachelor party???
November 6th, 2019 at 1:57 PM ^
Mad Hatter can certainly help hook that up!

I think decorum suggests your groomsmen provide you with the hookers and blow at the bachelor party. We’re you born in a barn East German Judge?

Damn you and your political subtext.

It was the religious overtones that stood out to me.

A Leatherman. It has a 50% chance of outlasting a marriage.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
Hahaha...I still have mine from my now ex brother-in-law...they were married for 10 and now divorced for 10.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:21 PM ^
I did Leatherman for my wedding. I don't know if my groomsmen still use theirs, but I got one for myself and still use it.
November 6th, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
Don’t all groomsmen gifts have a 50% chance of outlasting a marriage?
unless you forgot the /s, in that case, bravo my friend.
November 6th, 2019 at 2:13 PM ^
Not all, you could lose your Leatherman or it could run down to the store for a pack of smokes or something!
November 6th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
I got a nice metal beer koozie that I use all the time, a little unnecessary since I don't really need to keep it cold for that long before it's gone, but it does keep the beer very cold.

Yeti Colster is a great groomsmen gift...
Edit - My post below Hailyes above a coincidence, but he is right.
November 6th, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
I got all my groomsmen a Yeti coffee mug with their alma mater logo on it, and they all loved it. They still use theirs.
November 6th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
I like this idea.
whatever you do, don’t get them any apparel with “groomsman” or “best man” on it. Also don’t get them anything with your wedding date or you and your brides names on it. Nobody wants that.
November 6th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
I like the coozie idea. I got my buddies a Vineyard Vines USA flag belt (could do UM belts if everyone is a fan of them). Everyone, including my dad and my wife's dad still wear their's. Also got everybody matching dress socks (something with a design or theme to it)

+ 1 for the yeti cups.
I am someone who has been at more wedding than no one could imagine (Remember, I am one of Mgoblog's photographer... I need to pay for my gear etc.).
Yeti cup are not super common but the one that everyone appreciate.

Personally I like to go with a shiv.
Small, easily concealed, can be carried in the pocket of tux or board shorts depending on style of wedding.
The metal ones are more durable of course but there's something to be said for making it through airport security. If that's a concern don't go for some garage-made sharpened plastic spork shit, opt for a handcrafted wooden one. It will show thoughtfulness as well as practicality.
You never know when you're going to have a fight to the death.

Llamas are gangsters who knew?

... or when you'll have a hankering for a Popeye's chicken sandwich apparently.
November 6th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I think you should contact me directly and buy them all matching Chevy Silverado's.....

I think this is a great idea you should advertise on a popular niche sports blog with over 800,000 readers, the average of whom is a 30-40 year old man who lives in Michigan and makes 100k+/year. But how might you ever find a blog like that which currently doesn't have an automotive sponsor?
November 6th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
I say said blog should advertise on a popular niche sports blog with over 800,000 readers, the average of whom is a 30-40 year old man who lives in Michigan and makes 100k+/year.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:15 PM ^
We don't believe personal niche advertising works. That's why we pour our marketing budget into paying a recent MSU graduate to send spam emails to random website administrators asking for free front page articles instead.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:30 PM ^
But it's a VERY PROFESSIONAL niche sports blog.

One night with the bride!!!!
Inappropriate??
November 6th, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
Come on Dutch. At least a couple of them have probably already had that.
November 6th, 2019 at 4:51 PM ^
There’s nothing wrong with regifting.
November 6th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
For my wedding- instead of buying them a random gift and having them pay to rent a tux, i bought them their suits for the wedding (and wore a tux myself). That way they don't have to pay all that money for a one night outfit but instead have a nice suit they can tailor and have for a while.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
This may be the best answer I've ever seen for this question. Well done Blue!!
November 6th, 2019 at 2:01 PM ^
Thanks! My friends and I have been doing this for several years.
We even reused the black bow ties from the first guy's wedding from 4 years ago.
It's been very efficient.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
This is a lot better idea than a bunch of garbage with my name on it that I'll use 3 times and ruin in the dishwasher
November 6th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
This is a great answer and I would love to do this, unfortunately I can’t afford to do this. Now I know my gift will be inferior lol
November 6th, 2019 at 1:55 PM ^
I mean it doesn't have to be an expensive suit. If you just get them a nice black/gray/navy suit and a black bow tie ($5-6 on amazon) you can just inform them to wear their own white shirt and black dress shoes. It's quite possible to get them a suit for around $100. For example, H&M would run you about $105 plus tax.
It will be more difficult based on size of wedding party and body types but totally doable even on a budget.
Now if about $110 is still too much then that is probably not an option. But a better gift for them may result in a better wedding gift to you so it may balance itself out.
November 6th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
If my best friend buys me a $100 suit and tells me to wear it to his wedding I'm telling him to fuck off.
November 6th, 2019 at 2:42 PM ^
So you'd rather he buy you a flask with your name on it and a pair of cuff links? Then you get to pay $180 to rent a tux that isn't going to fit you and walk around all day swimming in a shirt made to fit 16 different body types.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
Well played !

You win.

Second this idea - this is what I did for my groomsmen as well and it was very well received.
If you check out ASOS, they have pretty nice suits that are very reasonably priced, so it won't cost you an arm and a leg.
I actually ordered a full set of suits, but one piece didn't work out, so I returned them all and ordered a full new set in a different style with zero problems getting a speedy refund. Just ordered a couple of other new suits through them and they're both great as well (and no this is not a paid endorsement).
Definitely endorse this approach as long as the suits you're asking them to wear standing up could double as functional options for another occasion.
November 7th, 2019 at 9:50 AM ^
Yes ASOS was the other option i was thinking could have affordable suits for this purpose but forgot the name and just rolled with H&M.
November 6th, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
This is brilliant. I've never understood why women spend thousands on a dress they'll wear once, while the men rent a suit they likely can wear for the rest of their lives. We got that one backwards.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
Depends how much you're spending. Personally, if I was about to get married Id go with a quality pair of wireless earbuds that aren't airpods.
I swear by these
Cheaper option
A lot of the gifts Ive recieved have been crap, enrgraved zippo lighter stands out as the worst. I think a custom leather passport holder was another I was unimpressed with based on how much $ we spent to go to this wedding (& bachelor party), plus that couple is very wealthy. I can't even remember what my brother did and I was his best man, so it was nothing that good.
My favorite was a Brooks Brother's matching tie set that included a tie clip and pocket square that we also all wore during the wedding with the tux.
November 6th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
I've got a pair of these and not only are they great, but they're cheap. You could give them as an add-on to other gifts.

Bluetooth speaker is a good one, sunglasses, a watch that everyone can wear that day. You can always throw in a tie and socks for that day as well if you want more than 1 gift
November 6th, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
I always appreciate the gesture but I honestly don't need knick-knacks and stuff. Just buy your groomsmen dinner and take them to a game sometime after the wedding as a thank you.
