Will Michigan Stadium ever sell alcoholic beverages?
Half the conference already does it to their entire stadium while others like Wisconsin and MSU sell it in suites.
Michigan does not sell any whatsoever. Having the largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere could net millions in annual alcohol sales.
I have no opinion on this. I just want to take the temperature of the board on this issue.
Here’s a list of every Power 5 teams alcohol policy.

Keep it a dry stadium. Look to Ford Field to see the difference.
October 24th, 2019 at 11:07 AM ^
I'd prefer a dry stadium, too.

But, I'd suggest that the collective impulse control of a Wolverine crowd, while not necessarily great, is much better than that of a Lions crowd.
October 24th, 2019 at 3:21 PM ^
Meh I have Lions season tickets and have been to plenty of UM games. Each place has their advantages and disadvantages. Only thing I have to say on that is the Lions crowd doesn’t tell you to sit down during 3rd downs or big plays.
October 24th, 2019 at 11:26 AM ^
A genuine, formidable home field advantage where you don’t get told to sit down and be quiet? Yeah, we wouldn’t want that.
October 24th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
I wouldn't mind if our fanbase was a bit more nuts. Buckeye fans are way too comfortable here. They don't even think twice about buying tickets in droves.
October 24th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
Buckeye fans would arrive in droves to an abortion clinic if it had even tangential relationship to the football program.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:10 PM ^
That's just a homing instinct, like salmon.
October 25th, 2019 at 12:20 AM ^
i laughed.
October 25th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Correct.
There would be a lot less red in the Big House if the folks wearing that color knew they had a legit chance of being....tuned up by the fine young men of Ann Arbor.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:32 PM ^
I think the crowd would be fine, and I enjoy drinking beer at games. But the real issue, IMO, is that the stadium is already a massive human traffic jam as it is with too many seats packed into cramped rows (don't get me wrong, I love the experience, but adding to the mess might make it unbearable), add in tens of thousands of extra trips to the beer stands and bathrooms, etc, and it could be terrible.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:03 PM ^
I think adult Michigan fans could handle it. Just not for Sparty or OSU games, please.
October 25th, 2019 at 7:53 AM ^
Blue hairs. Sell booze for fucks sake.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
This is not the thread we asked for, but it's the thread we needed.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:46 AM ^
I appreciate and agree.
Here's yet another pointless upvote!
October 24th, 2019 at 9:44 AM ^
I hope they don't. That is what tailgating is for. No need to continue drinking inside.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:17 AM ^
What about those that don't tailgate?
October 24th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
You have a point.
October 24th, 2019 at 11:26 AM ^
What about those that don't tailgate?
It's the duty of every tailgater to be ever-watchful of those unfortunates that (likely through no fault of their own) aren't tailgating.
Don't mock them, don't pity them, just welcome them (forcefully if need be).
Together we can rid college football of this tragedy.
October 24th, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
I have heard the argument that some say people will be less likely to "binge drink" before the game if they sold alcohol in the stadium. Thoughts?
October 24th, 2019 at 8:25 PM ^
Binge drinkers aren't usually great at planning their days anyway, so I'm skeptical.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:31 PM ^
Kind of like the "Cool" parents who argue that they encourage their kids to drink and party at their house because it's better if they drink themselves into an alcoholic induced coma at home than at some strangers house.
October 24th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
even if they did, the upcharge would be ridiculous. Big House can of beer = the cost of a case of the same beer at Blue Front.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:47 AM ^
I hope they do
October 24th, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
Me too, except I’m sure it’ll be $29.99 for a 12 oz draft beer. But seriously Michigan sell booze use profits for wifi
October 24th, 2019 at 1:07 PM ^
I went to a baseball game years ago. Two guys were sitting behind me with their dates. Between every inning, one would get up and buy 4 beers for the group (that was the limit.) Beers were $9 a bottle back then, I think. Anyway, I remember thinking that was an awful way to spend a couple hundred bucks.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:48 AM ^
I think it is likely that all stadiums will sell alcohol eventually. So, yes.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:02 AM ^
All people eventually fall to the stupidity of the mob, so succumb early...
Remind me to stand next to you when the zombies come, you're one who will just sit down, I won't even have to trip you.
Edit: Not even saying you're wrong, just that your logic is abso-freaking-lutely atrocious.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:34 AM ^
Huh? He didn't ask if Michigan stadium SHOULD sell alcohol, he asked if it WILL. I think that all stadiums WILL eventually sell alcohol. Michigan stadium is a stadium. Therefore, yes.
Good luck with your zombies though!
October 24th, 2019 at 12:10 PM ^
And if the zombies drink, buy them a beer. Maybe if they get wasted, they'll forget about the whole eating brains thing.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
If I had tried to argue "we should do it because everyone else does it", then you'd have a point.
The decision should be based solely on factors related to Michigan (potential revenue gain, gameday experience enhancement/detraction, liability, cost, etc.)
October 24th, 2019 at 10:49 AM ^
So what you're saying is that you're playing grammar games instead of answering the question any rational person knows the OP was asking.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read your response. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:52 AM ^
OP goes out of their way to make it a "will" and not "should" question...
October 24th, 2019 at 10:59 AM ^
will has less letters than should, so it's actually easier to type will. That said - I don't think your argument holds water, unless of course you know the OP's mind. If the OP wanted a binary yes/no with room for a few, "I hope yes" or, "I hope no" comments, I think they would have written such. Or at least, for me to agree that the OP "goes out of their way to make it..." I would have to see a "this is a binary yes/no" in some fashion.
Edit: Actually, OP wrote "taking the temperature of the board" that implies openness to a wide range of answers, implying a 'should' question, not a binary yes/no.
October 24th, 2019 at 2:00 PM ^
It's always nice to see someone really dig in when they're so obviously wrong. The guy answered OP's question with a 'yes', you misunderstood what the question was when you read his post and thought you'd get on your high horse, and you were clearly wrong. Move on.
Also, your post would have been obnoxious even if OP's question was what you thought it was.
October 24th, 2019 at 11:10 AM ^
Really, no. I was just logging my prediction to what I assume was the OP's question. Not totally sure why you jumped on me here.
Oh well!
October 24th, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
you're fine. you answered OPs question as asked, quite succinctly and accurately I might add.
GoBlueTal is basically saying "I know what OP intended to ask, which is SHOULD they, even though the OP typed WILL they."
He/she then goes on blabbering to support his view (which is not based in reality or fact since the OP indeed asked WILL they) while trying to shit on other people because they just "don't get the question."
October 24th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Appreciate the support, Dr.!
October 24th, 2019 at 9:48 AM ^
I really hope they don't. I'm not against drinking or anything, but I'm generally against anything that brings Michigan Stadium closer to an NFL experience.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:19 AM ^
You mean the piped-in hype music, constant crowd pump up tactics on the big board, and commercials every other snap don't do it for you? I need a drink or two to deal with that shit. Face it, Michigan "sold out" when Ol' DB (DoucheBag implied) was AD and they put a fucking Giant Noodle in front of the stadium and gave away two tickets with the purchase of a Coke.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:52 AM ^
We've put one foot into the steaming pile of conformity, so let's wallow in it?
Not a good enough reason.
October 24th, 2019 at 11:07 AM ^
We don't have to, no. However, alcohol puts butts in seats, which keeps the lights on at the Big House. Otherwise, people will continue to take in games from the comforts of their own home, where the bathroom is a short walk down the hall, the fridge is filled with cold beverages, and they can sit in their favorite recliner.
Maybe the answer is to completely go away from all of the mainstream stuff and return to the old and true "stadium experience" to really divert from what you can experience in your home.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
So Michigan needs alcohol to put butts in seats? To keep the lights on?
Have you been to Michigan Stadium lately?
October 24th, 2019 at 10:52 AM ^
Don't forget the offense tripping over itself.
October 24th, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
What about NFL caliber talent?
October 24th, 2019 at 2:58 PM ^
Thinking about that makes me think beer alone is not enough.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:48 AM ^
edit: I have no opinion on this issue because I don’t drink before or during games anywhere ever. I save it for after if we win.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:00 AM ^
Your religion doesn't allow tailgating?
October 24th, 2019 at 10:17 AM ^
The Book of Celebrations, Chapter 1, Verse 14:
"Thou shalt not party before the game."
I didn't write it, but that's what it says.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:19 AM ^
"I don't make the rules I just think them up and write them down"
