Re: Zach Charbonnet - I'm Sold
Harbaugh just gave me what I needed regarding Zach Charbonnet. He was doing his standard rundown of all the guys who were doing well in camp and then got to Charbonnet and had to catch himself from going off on a tangent and down a rabbit hole talking about how good he was. He's a true freshman and he wasn't able to participate in the Spring so I figured he may not take over right away. But that small moment from Harbaugh during The B1G Show gives me serious confidence in how good this kid will be.
Now, obviously you all can disagree with me and feel any kind of way about this that you please. But we're getting close to football now and I'm starting to get restless.

Harbaugh was grinning like a kid in a candy store as soon as he mentioned Charbonnet.
August 14th, 2019 at 12:59 AM ^
Agreed. He looked absolutely giddy talking about Charbonnet.
I pray the kid stays healthy & ends up being a 5 star bruiser back battering ram for us.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:10 AM ^
I have this dream now of seeing Charbonnet bowl over an OSU defensive back going into the end zone.

To win by 40.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
I heard that too, can't wait for Zach to shine man!
On another note, it did seem like the btn crew weren't too enthusiastic about us. They seemed way more excited for osu and msu when they were there. Idk if that means anything tho
August 13th, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
Eh, everyone hates us. I accepted that a long time ago.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
Considering how stoked Dinardo was about Hoke's OLs, I'm not too concerned about it.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:20 PM ^
Was it 2014 when the BTN crew literally said "It looks like an Alabama practice out there" when they visited Ann Arbor?
August 13th, 2019 at 11:57 PM ^
In fairness this time five years ago, in these parts, it was the received wisdom that the young, fit, athletic, former Alabama OC was going to revolutionize Michigan's offense. No better evidence for that exuberance was that Devin Gardner had been taught and learned how to identify Mike.
August 14th, 2019 at 7:47 AM ^
Agree. If anyone is a Fredo, it's Dinardo.
August 14th, 2019 at 9:20 AM ^
Oh, I thought the saying was if anyone is a Cuomo, it's Dinardo.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
Michigan is the presumed favorite in the Big Ten by many media outlets. BTN has a vested interest in making the Big Ten East as appealing to mass audiences as possible. They don't need to hype up Michigan this year for people to have high expectations. MSU needs a little polishing after the couch fire that was their last season.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:33 PM ^
It's difficult to polish turds.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:49 PM ^
The BigTen Network coverage is one small step above cable access. I'm not worrying about anything they say. I feel like my son's preschool class can analyze better than that network. But our games are on there sometimes, so I watch.
August 14th, 2019 at 12:13 AM ^
Hey, let's not insult Wayne and Garth like that.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:53 PM ^
Agreed with your observation. On defense, it was losing 50% of production from last year and not adjusting schematically. The new offense scheme will be difficult for lineman to adjust and Gattis having no experience calling plays per Gary D, The hardest thing is to call plays during the game
August 14th, 2019 at 7:32 AM ^
I agree. Dinardo saying the best thing he seen was our new weight room. Meanwhile it would have taken a bucket of ice water to get him off of OSU and how great they look. I was disappointed in what they had to say from a positive standpoint. I stayed awake past my bedtime for that shit!
August 14th, 2019 at 9:16 AM ^
BTN sucks.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
I am at the point where I am ready to consume anything regarding Michigan Football intel, even if it means watching Gerry Dinardo try to offer some unique insight for a team after watching them practice for one day.
August 14th, 2019 at 12:43 AM ^
But Howard saying the "best" takeaway was Harbaugh's whistle? C'mon
There was so little energy, boring questions and no insight other than Harbaugh talking about Charbonnet
August 14th, 2019 at 5:25 AM ^
Do you think Michigan showed them anything in practice yesterday? No.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:41 AM ^
I’ve watched all these shows at each school so far, and this is the first time that dinardo didn’t go on the field during a drill and talk to whoever was running the drill. They didn’t have any “mic’d up” coaches either. I don’t know if Michigan didn’t want to do that or if the btn crew didn’t want to, but either way that was a really disappointing show.

It's true!
However, I am hoping the 2019 Vintage is a rare reserve released near the holidays in exclusive bundles from November through January.
Next season, unleash the 2020 Vintage to the masses, especially the NY "athletic" crowd .... in vino veritas!
August 14th, 2019 at 5:42 AM ^
Can't wait for them to uncork it - we're past due for a memorable vintage of RB.

I’m hoping for an Anthony Thomas sophomore season level performance. A-Train rushed for 4.1 YPC as a frosh and 5.2 YPC as a sophomore.
With this offensive line and frightening passing game, anything under 5.0 YPC will be a disappointment, from any of the top 3 backs.

“Z-Train”
I like the sound of that nickname...

Charbonnet is going to be outstanding. Watching his film from HS made it clear he was a 5 Star talent. He just seems like the kind of player who has all-timer in his future, at least in terms of M RBs. I hope he starts early, he's right with Dax as players I'm most excited for.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:25 PM ^
He played against elite talent in SoCal...and crushed it. If he stays healthy, he will be an incredible player for Michigan.

Kid will only be as good as the line in front of him...
August 14th, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
While I generally agree that a great OL can make a rather pedestrian RB look better than he might be in actuality, so too an elite RB can overcome some of the deficiencies of the OL and make the OL look better than it might be.
The good news — seemingly — is that 2019 might present the best of all situations in which BOTH the OL and the RB are elite. Hopefully, we won’t have to deal with such an imbalance any longer, and being elite at both will be the norm for the program.
I’m as excited as I’ve ever been to see not only a Michigan RB and OL, but the entire offense in its new look. Zach’s timing entering the program really couldn’t better.
August 13th, 2019 at 11:45 PM ^
I agree it's nice to hear good things about Charbonnet, but I wouldn't say that Harbaugh's having to "catch himself from going off on a tangent and down a rabbit hole" is indicative of much.
That's a feature of your Harbaugh, not a bug.

You mean the software is operating as intended and we will have to pay for an "enhancement"?
August 14th, 2019 at 12:37 AM ^
It’s the same every year: the closer we get to the season opener, the more irrational the exuberance, and the more touchy the exuberant are. By next week most of MGoBlog will be as twitchy as an irritable cat in a rocking chair store.

August 14th, 2019 at 1:04 AM ^
I was sold the minute I saw his HS film. Competition does not matter. With that size, speed, vision, and ability to move so quickly and effortlessly...he's gonna be really, really good.
August 14th, 2019 at 2:38 AM ^
Believe.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:03 AM ^
I understand the hesitation of many to embrace his elite status. However, Zach is a football player...he is not simply another pretty boy who puts up numbers. Anyone who believes he will not be a willing blocker to protect his QB needs to watch this kids film and understand that he will do whatever it takes to get the job done. He had 50 receptions and 7 interceptions during his HS career-the kid can catch the ball. Zach is a fearless player-that is mostly good-he doesn't seem to take significantly unnecessary risks. He may not be as powerful as A-Train or as fast as Wheatley or as quick as Jaime but he runs as hard as Biakabutuka and is a nice combination of the traits of those other three-that holds great promise.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:30 AM ^
But fast...
