Who wants to be Mo's dd???
POSBang is wife?
To be fair, although it has been shuttered for about a decade now, my parents still talk about the lobster specials on weekends as well as the rather elaborate interior of the restaurant in its heyday. I only ate there once, only a couple years before it closed and well into its decline, and no, I did not see Coach Moeller.
How about just Mo?
God forbid we celebrate the man who won 122 games, 5 Big Ten titles, a National Championship, and recruited/developed countless Michigan legends.
Just make sure Les, the Mad Hatter, isn't in the house for that game.
Logged in to downvote. This feller probably started watchin UM football in 2005.
If only Mo had ordered a ginger ale that night....... sigh......
My dad was friends with one of the cops who cuffed him
Wish he woulda cuffed you instead.
I played counterstrike with a guy who was friends with your dad and he said you are full of sheet.
I prefer RD2
Has Wolverine Devotee or anyone else ever posted a list of those people who've been honorary captains for Michigan football games? Is such a list available online?
It’s too bad that WD doesn’t have a family business to fall into like Mr Glick. He could be the heir apparent to court side seats, honorary captain, and whatever else comes with being a super fan / donor.
Or better yet, WD as honorary captain for his role in the deposing of Dave Brandon.
/s
"hey Brian, do all the work for me but give me the credit"
But Keith Olbermann did some of the work too. What would've been funny if Keith referred to the poster name instead of just saying the source is "mgoblog"
WD should put a list of the restaurant staff and attendees to Mo's infamous drunken night at the restaurant
I'd replace Al Glick with Jerry Hanlon and Big Jon Falk.
No slight towards Glick, but it seems an odd mix with him on the field instead of someone with long-term football ties at team level.
These big time donors are pretty involved. Not in the daily running of the teams, but they tend to be around a lot - at least they are at my university, though I’m not sure how much the students see them.
Al Glick has donated like $20M+ to the Football Program. I think this is more than warranted.
....so then at some point Stephen M. Ross will be honorary captain for a whole season.
Like I posted above, not at all meant as a slight against Al Glick. But give him his own day.
I want actual football guys out there together, and nobody I can think of would be more deserving than Jerry Hanlon and Jon Falk.
Mike Gittleson. I know he's not revered around here, but he was in many ways the originator of a "Strength and Conditioning" coach (a term he and Bo created). He was a major reason for Michigan's growth under Bo and into Moeller and Carr. While his style was dated by the time he was replaced by Rich Rod, he deserves to be a Michigan legend in his own right.
My two cents
Not sure if he was an honorary captain but Gittleson was honored last year before a game. I believe it was Wisconsin.
Al Glick is umbig11
Holy shit, how much money does one have, that giving away 20 million to a sports team doesn’t register as crazy or catastrophic. I love Michigan football but I don’t know that I could give it 20 million.....
Are they worried about it?
International trips don't happen without deep pocketed donors.
I think it would be appropriate to bring RichRod back for the MTSU game.
I think Tom Izzo would be a great honorary captain for the MTSU game, personally...
Oh....wait.....
The last time we had an "honor Lloyd Carr game" was in 2011 and we blew out a decent 9 win Nebraska team 45-17.
That was a fun game .... great tailgate beforehand too
A very rare time in Michigan football recent history where we closed out the season strongly.
Moeller. What could have been
Moeller is undervalued by many. Bo brought him to Michigan in 1969. Mo brought in more talent to the program than anybody. No Mo. No NC.
I actually think Moeller is somewhat overrated on here actually. He had one 10 win season out of 5. And are we really going to argue that Lloyd Carr, the defensive coordinator, had no hand in recruiting the guys that would become the heart of the great '97 defense?
But he did have an undefeated season.
With 3 ties in a time with no OT. Those could have just as easily been 3 losses.
If you believe Carr recruited like Moeller .....go right ahead and keep believing. And Mo was Bo's right hand man. He did a lot of behind the scenes work for Bo.
I'm not saying that. Are you arguing Carr had nothing to do with those recruiting classes?
Tom Brady has no issues with Gary Moeller recruiting him to Michigan.
I thought Coach Mo was a great Lions coach as well. He had a great interim season ruined by a long field goal in the last game of the season. Should have been given a chance rather than the garbage we suffered through. But being a Lions fan, he honestly would have been ruined by them.
I still think someone from OSU slipped something in Mo’s drink that night.
Any honest assessment of Carr has to include that he left the program in disarray. Kudos for 1997 and all his other contributions but the fact is he didn't care enough about Michigan to ensure that his final years and departure set the program up to succeed after he was gone. Neg away!!
We beat OSU in 06 or not lose to App St the whole trajectory of the program changes.
Beating OSU pits us against Florida which, who knows (we beat a weaker Florida team with a weaker Michigan team the following year). Maybe Lloyd retires there on top. Or, if 06 plays out the same way and we beat App St, maybe lose a closer game to a good Oregon team and finish 10-3, that would be 11-2 followed by 10-3. There wouldn’t be a knee-jerk reaction to go the spread.
We could have seen English taken over in 2008. Or Les Miles most likely would have taken the job post NC winning and retiring Lloyd.
