OUTRAGE
Ugh. BTN.
Not sure what to think about this. There's a chance, a small one, that I might be able to go to that game, take my kids.
For me, going to a night game at the Stadium would be exciting. But for my kids, I kind of like the traditional afternoon game experience.
In any circumstance I think that night games should be special games. Not cannon fodder. Get off my fieldturf.
Agreed on the network... but I was at UTL 1 in 2011 and it was magical. Not saying a game against MTSU will be electrifying, but the stadium at night is such a memorable experience. I'd highly recommend it. Not sure how old your kids are, but I can almost guarantee they will love it.
Late August would be a great time for a night game. Imagine a nooner on that day. You could have some nasty heat and humidity.
I'm hoping for a nooner that day. At least, my definition of a nooner.
That was some seriously creepy footage... my God, that dude was like serial killer creepy!
Have a nooner AND not miss the game!
The cringe is strong when someone uses the term "UTL". Non-Michigan fans call these "night games" or just "games."
You realize this cutesy acronym is a David Brandon creation, right?
UTL is just what that one game is called. It's no big deal. If we were to keep calling all night games UTLs that might be pushing it.
Incidentally, for a guy that's officially been here one month, you've had a pretty aggressive post history.
I have found interacting with posters here to be a bit aggravating. Maybe I won't be posting in another month. Guess this place is important enough to you to check on things like that, which...huh.
BTW, the poster I responded to referenced it as "UTL1". Pretty sure in the past I've heard references to "UTL2" or things like "Hoke outcoached Franklin in UTL3". IMO, it's lame. Especially since its origins are covered in Brand-ON slime.
Your second post ever includes the line, "this place is kind of unbearable" aaaaaand, yet you spend the next month antagonizing people and complaining about the place. Serious question as I think it might help ya deduce why you don't like the place, do you also find it aggravating interacting with people IRL?
Sounds like he’s currently blog hunting and expects an offer within the next month. Hopefully they don’t request any references.
Eh. UTL is just a name amongst Michigan fans now like the 5th down game or the Choke at Doak or anything else like that. It's not because it's the holiest of night games, but because everyone associated with Michigan knows what UTL is.
Let’s not forget about the M00N game either.
Of course. It sure as hell didn't take long for the "night games should be special" crowd. I just don't understand this attitude.
Because you're grumpy, crotchety, and refuse to even attempt to see other points of view?
+1 for the accuracy.
This is the only fan base on Earth that is almost entirely opposed to having night games unless it's against a "worthy" opponent. A night game at Michigan Stadium has to be "SUPER SPECIAL!" Why does it have to be a massive event? It's just another time of the day to play football. Why are so many people opposed to having prime time games? It makes no sense to me.
Because some of us think that atmosphere gives us a little bit of an advantage and wasting that on MTSU seems pointless.
How is it wasted? Do we have a limited supply of night atmosphere at Michigan Stadium?
The actual answer is yes...
Or it gives the players the experience of playing a college game at night.... before playing a ranked team at night. You know, however one wishes to look at it.
Threadworthy????
My apologies. Sorry to question, it obviously is for most.
Yes. Football game times, especially night games, are threadworthy. It's news.
I'd say yes. And a bonus for not being OT.
It's not on-topic?
lol, are you serious?
Why?!?!?
Also, 5 other kickoff times announced (a lot of early ones here):
Army - 12 PM FOX
@ Wisconsin - 12 PM FOX
Iowa - 12 PM (Network TBA)
@ Maryland - 12 PM (Network TBA)
Ohio State - 12 PM FOX (no surprise but official)

FOX has such terrible coverage imo. I'm pissed thats where most of our games are broadcast now.
Klatt and Gus are the best broadcast duo in all of football.
They're pretty good, but i'm talking camera angles and replays. Klatt is the big ten version of Finebaum.
WTF are you talking about, the B1G version of that douche Finebaum?
Klatt's cool, Paul not so much
That they homer for the conferences/teams they cover. That's the connection i'm making.
My personal favorite is Herbstreit, i'm sure i'll get negged to oblivion.
Yeah but Johnson and Klatt do many Big 12 and Pac 12 games, not just B1G games.
Besides, even if Klatt was somewhat biased towards those 3 leagues I'm cool with it because of ESPN's SEC bias that is endless.
I'm not disagreeing with you man. ESPN and Finebaum are annoying with their love of SEC. Now the ACC will get the same treatment with start of their own network.
Yep agreed, I was thinking that about the ACC as I was typing earlier.
Klatt is awesome.
The great thing about Klatt is that he’s not afraid to call out shitty calls or non-calls.
I agree with others though that Gus manufactures drama by calling every play as if it were a game-changer.
Burn me at the stake if you want, but I've grown rather tired of Gus Johnson.
When everything is at 100, nothing is at 100.
Off tackle run to the right, the RB gets past the first level of defenders and it's "Higdon in thE OPEN FIELD!!!!" when there's 3 guys right there to tackle him after 5 yards.
QB drops back to pass and throws a bomb (that we can't see because of the broadcast angle) and it's "Patterson, lookING DEEP FOR COLLINS" on a ball that is overthrown by 5 yards with 2 DBs around.
That Illinois Big Ten Tournament game from a few years ago, every shot Illinois took in the second half was called like the Jordan - Cavs buzzer beater. It was like a 2nd round game or something.
He primes so many plays to be THE play, that I've gone numb to it. He hits the high point in his call too early and if it is a huge play he's already at 100 by the time its obvious its going the distance.
I agree wholeheartedly. Gus is great on a ten second highlight clip you see in basketball; he is dreadful for the entirety of a three-hour football game.
Klatt I like a lot though.
Johnson does have an above 100 level. Come on, the sound of “He’s got Peoples-Jones...PEOPLES-JONES DOWN THE SIDELINE” still rings wonderfully in my head
It is great for highlights but can be tiresome after 3 hours of it.
Sadly have to agree. Gus was fun when he first came along, but he just needed to develop another gear or two, and hasn't.
They're pretty good, although the Sparty game I almost had to mute it because I swear it was a MSU lovefest most of the game, especially they wouldn't shut up about LJ Scott's career stats. I think Gus likes Michigan, though, so maybe he was just trying too hard to not show his bias.
I think Klatt is one of the best while Gus is just annoying as fuck.
I'm OK with Fox production and Gus & Trent; what I'm not OK with is the 4 hrs a Fox primetime game will take to play.
Wisconsin being a noon kickoff is HUGE. Camp Randall is a nightmare place to play at night, and for a noon kick the stadium won't be full for a good chunk of the first quarter.
Confirmed. Two years ago when Wisconsin was making a title push and Gameday was there it was a noon game and even for that the stadium wasn't full at the start.
