Shaka Smart rumors picking up steam and Texas fans are estatic
I would take Brian Ellerbe back before getting on board with this.
Or Becky Hammon
....or Chaka Khan.
Or Chaka, Chaka, Chaka, Chaka Khan.
I Feel For You E. Germ
Right?! Right down through the fire.
I'd be in favor of hiring a HS coach drawn at random over Ellerbe.
I'll be disappointed if Smart gets the job, but I won't lose all hope for the team.
This hire would be a train wreck waiting to happen.
Weren't a few Texas players named in the FBI probe?
No way. Absolutely NO WAY.
??♂️
We could win back that 1997 NIT Banner if we hired him.
We already got that back.
FWIW Chris Balas at rivals is now hopping aboard the Shaka train.
Warde needs to be fired
Either Warde is a master at smokescreens (unlikely) or he's doing this on the fly and has no clue (more likely).
Why is it unlikely that Warde is good at smokescreening?
Because it's what Eeyore-Von-FuckFace up there wants desperately to be true. He's a miserable little shit, who longs for opportunity to spout his endless negativity about everything. It's sad. His life must be absolute misery.
+10,000 for Eeyore-Von-FuckFace
I also laughed at that name. I'll be using it again.
"Eeyore Von Fuckface"
What a spectacular nickname for Shawn L Martin. I'm going to use that from now to refer to Maizen and his many reincarnations.
I refuse to believe this. But at the same time, Manuel had no buyout in JB’s contract after he just interviewed for other jobs last year. So he might be this stupid
People keep bringing this up, but what if a contract extension with no buyout was the only thing that brought Beilein back last year and kept the NBA at bay until now? We just don't know
If that’s what it took then it wasn’t worth it, look where we are now! So Coach K, Calipari, Izzo, none of them should have buyouts because their respective schools are just so honored to have them and don’t want to upset them? Coaches have buyouts, this is a business. There are only two reasons to not have a buyout for your coach: 1. You want them to leave but don’t want to fire them. 2. You have no idea how to run a business. I don’t understand why people are having such a hard time grasping how bad we just got ripped off.
0% chance you would have been saying this had we let JB go last year
100% chance you would have been all up-in-arms about it and wanting Warde fired for mishandling the situation
Yeah, you’re right give us 5 million for beilein, that’ll fix the giant hole he left behind in our hearts.
This is dumb. No one got ripped off. Coach B wanted to leave, and no amount $ was going to stop him. Warde just has to ace this hire and prove his worth as our AD, or call Jim Hackett to do it for him.
Correct - the Cavs would have covered a few million.
A $1-5 million buyout isn’t going to stop an NBA team from hiring a coach. Only legitimate reason to not include a buyout IMO is if that’s what it takes to keep a salary way down. Maybe JB wanted $5-8 million a year and Warde said we’ll stay around 4 but won’t include a buyout. But like I said, a few million bucks isn’t keeping a team from signing a coach
The point being missed is the buyout is basically a pass through. If someone wants to pay it to take your coach you have the money to pay a buyout for a coach you want.
Doesn't the buyout only apply if he went to coach another college team?
Maybe. But let's be honest--this is just the nattering of a thousand lemmings who have zero insight about any of this. A half year ago they were running toward one cliff edge screaming off with his head; two days ago they were gnashing their teach that their recently-adopted god was gone. And now they are looking for scapegoats in the ether. As my wife often says, men are much more hysterical than women.
You’re wife is right. And these nancy’s Need to stop whining and be happy for John.
So you're worried about Michigan's ability to pay lets say a $5 million buyout? This really seems like a pointless thing to talk about. They can afford it if that's what it comes to.
If so, then is this a repeat of delaying the inevitable, keeping Lloyd on another two years and then shitting the bed on picking a coach when there was little to pick from....
You convince JB to stick it out ome more year, there's always the chance he'll change his mind and decide to stay in college ball. Not only that, we haven't hired our coach yet, let's see what we end up with before we call it RR part two.
I said this in another thread, but when we don't have a coach, everyone's line is "give them whatever they want to come here" when it comes to good candidates. But when the good candidate is already here and we give him whatever he wants to stay, people think Warde is an idiot. That logic makes absolutely no sense to me. If Billy Donovan said "I'll come to Michigan for Beilein's salary provided there is no buyout" and we didn't go for it, people would freak the absolute fuck out.
He was already under contract so he would've been back anyway. If no deal had gotten done, JB would've been insulted and left for the NBA a year later--which is exactly what happened anyway and we would've just saved a ton of money. This is why you insist on a buyout.
If Warde hires - or even speaks to Shaka - without at least kicking the tires on Donovan, he needs to be drawn and quartered.
He has, it's just Maizen not telling the full story.
He has kicked the tires on Donovan.
Where do you think the recommendation for Smart came from? He coached under Donovan at Florida before going to VCU.
Donovan wants to stay in the NBA at all costs even if he gets canned by OKC.
Your last line - how can you be so certain? He's not going to be hired by an NBA team with a roster better than OKC's. Maybe he thinks Westbrook is holding him back, and that he would like a second chance to prove his NBA coaching potential. Or maybe he sees the writing on the wall and wants to land somewhere with a little bit more job security - Michigan could conceivably offer more years in a deal than any NBA team would be willing to.
Shaka DUMB amirite
Yesterday you post Porter Moser threads of the sky is falling. Sam comes on the air and says he doesn't think that's happening.
Today it's this.
You're enjoying this aren't you?
Hey Maizen. Why didn't you post the update earlier where Dotman said Michigan IS showing interest in Billy Donovan?
You aren't seeing the big picture. Maizen is part of a vast conspiracy to make us all happy to get Moser.
If you threaten us with Becky Hammon and Shaka, then, Moser seems a reasonable choice.
Maizen is just running interference for Warde on this.
To be fair Shaka’s resume at the college level far exceeds those 2. If the choices are those 3...I’d take Shaka in a heartbeat.
Texas was a mess when he took over. I can’t remember a good Texas squad outside of the Durant year.
Texas is always a mess in both sports. Rick Barnes looks like a good-ish coach now after leaving that trainwreck.
Shaka wouldn't be in my top 20 desirable names but might be the best we can get at this point. Not sure if he'd be above Yaklich or not, it's close.
Perhaps Maizen IS Warde.
But I was told Maizen brings something positive to the board because he posts a bunch of tweets from a guy I've never heard of.
