2020 OT Noah Nelson picks Oklahoma over Michigan
Noah Nelson, a 3 star OT from Arizona, committed to Oklahoma over Michigan. This is notable because he was one of the staff's top target on the board and he was pretty high on Michigan (he visited twice in the span of less than a month). Michigan also lost on another big OT target in Tosh Baker (high 4 star teammate of JD Johnson) who committed to ND the week before.
Michigan is still in decent shape with several top targets - Andrew Gentry, Michael Carmody, Zak Zinter, Olu Fashanu - but have less wiggle room in terms of number of misses. Some lower rated options would be Jaylan Jeffers and Jeffrey Persi. They probably need at least 2 OTs in this class and hopefully they can snag two of them from their top groups.
Current outlook of top targets:
Andrew Gentry - Battling ND, Bama, BYU
Michael Carmody - Battling ND, OSU, PSU
Zak Zinter - Battling ND
Olu Fashanu - Battling PSU
Well this has been a lousy day.
Our lousy days would be considered great days for other programs. EMU would trade spots with us in a heartbeat.
EMU? Your bar should really be higher.
after they beat Rutger they became they beat out Concordia for the second best team in Washtenaw county
The only comparison I need is OSU, not EMU...
This is truly the worst news I have heard all day
Apparently you didn't hear about Keith Jackson?
Is he okay? I knew his health was declining.
I'm thinking y'all missed the timing of Ritzy's post compared to the content of it ...
Before I opened it I would've bet this was a Maizen thread, now that he can post OP's again...he's slipping. But he would say, "Do not want, only a 3 star".
Actually, I think the way it works is, if Michigan gets a 3-star commit, the staff is bad at talent evaluation and/or can't recruit better players, but if a 3-star commits somewhere else, that's an indication that Michigan can't recruit against X school and will never land another recruit..
Thanks, Beilein
Glad Monday is over.
baker wouldve been nice. still plenty of talented prospects out there - obviously solid results on the field will help them close. carmody would be a great pickup, he could be really good
Maybe we should build him a statue or something for considering us.
"3 Star Noah Nelson Field at Michigan Stadium" has a nice ring to it...
Or, we could start a useless petition to name the basketball court after him.
After all, he's tall and probably played hoops at some point.
Ed Warinner can coach but he is a below average recruiter. Hate to say it but the Buckeye fans weren’t BS’ing us about this.
They thought a lot of him as an OL coach, hated him as a recruiter. His nickname was “Mr. Personality” because he has no game on the recruiting trail.
Seems like he has done a decent job getting guys like Trente Jones and Trevor Keegan. He missed on some bigger guys like Logan Brown but is a definite step up from Drevno.
Completely false. He just helped bring in one of the better OL classes Michigan has seen in awhile. Sometimes when you recruit against big dogs, you lose. The fact is Nelson chose a school that has had more success than michigan, is closer than Michigan, has recently put out more pros than Michigan, and has been better at his position than Michigan.
Yep. And it takes beating the big dogs on the field to become one again.
Exactly. The best recruiter in the world can't outsell 4 straight conference titles, 2 straight Heismans, 2 straight number 1 overall draft picks, having all 5 offensive linemen drafted in the past 2 years, an exciting and proven offense, primetime games, playoff appearances and proximity to home. Yea, Oklahoma is still far away from Arizona (14 hours), but that's a drivable distance. If his parents left Friday morning, they could get to his game without buying a plane ticket. Not ideal, but definitely closer than AA.
Need more consistency with this recruiting stuff.
Need to win big games.
Don't blame him for picking Oklahoma considering they just had four linemen picked in the NFL Draft.
Wow, endless bad news! The good news is that Harbaugh has not left for the NFL yet.
wtf..... and still, we don't land our top OT targets... when is this gonna ever end?
its been over a decade now. RR was the last coach to land a top OT in Lewan...
Florida commits are jumping the ship like rats. Go get some.
Dammit
