Chase battling through injury until after combine
Looks as if Chase needs surgery but is battling through it. Kid’s tenacity is incredible... smart I think if it was going to hold him out of the combine too. Hopefully he doesn’t injure himself any more than he already is.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
Article makes it sound like he's been told that he can't make it worse.

Chase is nothing if not tough...
December 27th, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
I hope we get the W just for Chase alone.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
Aye. He deserves to go out a winner.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
You think Chase cares about a W in a meaningless bowl?

Give me 50 Chase Wins
and 50 Ben Masons.
I'd play anyone.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Absolutely!
December 27th, 2018 at 12:45 PM ^
This might be the truest statement of the year.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:51 PM ^
Give me 50 Devin Gardners. Playing OSU with a broken foot?! At 6'5" and mobile, I could bulk 10-15 of him to over 300 pounds for the O and D lines. Give me a 275 pound Devin Gardner as blocking/catching TE. He already played QB and WR. How about a 6'5" CB fuhgettaboutit. He could do it.

I know he's smart enough not to regret a thing but. . . perhaps the most tragically wasted football career in UM history. Charter illustration of why a mediocrity like Hoke was just as harmful to the program as the entire RichRod debacle.
In fact--just to stir the pot a little on a lazy afternoon--I'd still take a RichRod with the full backing of the institution over Brady. At least a non-abusive RichRod, smart enough to control the ol' trouser snake.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
I don't think RichRod is useless, but look what he did at Arizona (non-football stuff aside).
Without any alums submarining him, he made some of the same dumbass recruiting calls that he did at Michigan. It might've even been worse.
I was watching through Arizona blogs. Every year it seemed that he took about 15 or so "athletes" (who, in RR's world, could cover all non-line positions). Then he'd seem to remember the O-line. It's not clear that he ever remembered the D-line. :)
December 27th, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
Yeah, he's a disappointment, I cannot deny. We're better off with Harbaugh, though it took a long wander in the desert. And football has caught up with the spread concept. I found it thrilling at the time, though, have to admit.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
Comparing the coaching prowess of RR vs Hoke is like comparing the better car: Pinto or Gremlin?
December 27th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
Gremlins didn’t explode, so there’s that.
December 27th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
This is why the playoffs need to expand, you left out the Pacer and the Edsel!
December 29th, 2018 at 7:01 AM ^
True, but RR actually has some usefulness in the game from an offensive standpoint. While I’d never ever ever “not even if the house was in fire” want to see that shit show of an offense being ran in A2 again. I do believe he would be useful in bringing some plays to offset the man ball that OSU loaded up to stop. Harbaughs O will likely never win in a game that we’d have to score 60 points, but I believe Oklahoma will put up quite a few on Bama today while we probably wouldn’t.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Absolutely!
Gardner was the #5 QB in the country coming out of HS.
I'm not saying Pep wouldn't have screwed him up as well, but it's about time Gardner got some credit for doing what he could in the situation he was in (multiple position changes, HCs, and OCs).
December 27th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
Yeah, it's sad to say, but Devin made the wrong decision by choosing to come to Michigan
December 28th, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
Why didn’t Devin ever get a shot in the NFL?
December 27th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
When did Mason get injured? He’s wearing a big brace on his left arm.
December 27th, 2018 at 7:21 PM ^
Play anyone? Hell, I'd go into battle with 100 guys like that.
December 27th, 2018 at 10:06 PM ^
100 Masovichs is essentially a service academy.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
Battling through it? If he can play, and he believes he can be successful at the combine, and the injury can't be made worse by working out and playing, how much of a battle can it be?
December 27th, 2018 at 12:49 PM ^
Much like any injury, I'm sure it comes with a certain level of pain. Would be very easy for him to write off the bowl game like a few of his teammates (understandably) chose to.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
How about we give you the same injury and let you decide how much of a battle it is, dick.
I commend the heart of this kid for being out there gutting through his ailment with his brothers.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:55 PM ^
He’s playing hurt in a game that a large percentage of this dickhead fan base claim they don’t care about. He’s risking his draft stock to play because he loves Michigan.
Turd.

Do you think the person you've appropriated for your avatar has your attitude toward Chase's injury?

Dickiest comment of the day goes to...
December 27th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
Two weeks ago I strained a muscle in my chest. It hurt to move, to breathe.
You can't double-secret-strain an already strained muscle, so technically I could have gone to the gym and worked out. Want to guess how many times I've been to the gym since? Exactly zero.
Injuries are injuries, pal.

Chase Winovich should get the inaugural Kovacs Award.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:48 PM ^
Ugh, would someone please let him know this is meaningless so he can act accordingly?
December 27th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Chase isn’t a pussy
December 27th, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
Implying that those who choose a different path — higdon and Gary, for example — are?
Tough words for an anonymous internet douche.
December 27th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
Higdon sat out because he didn’t win a team award while being a late draft pick. Gary is injured and probably going in the first round. Don’t equate the two.
December 27th, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
Ok. You’re still a douche for your thoughts on Higdon. He has done more for the University than you will ever do. But yeah, you are a tough guy with a keyboard.
December 27th, 2018 at 4:03 PM ^
If Chase followed your username’s lead, he would quit the team, move somewhere hard to find in the Rocky Mountains and start his own football league where he could be paid commensurate with his value. Since he didn’t do that, I can only conclude that you think he is, in fact, a pussy.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
Chase = the most captain of all non-captains, of all time.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:45 PM ^
He’s my captain.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:52 PM ^
So shitty for him. He was pretty healthy for the last two years and now he’s not - at the worst possible time.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:55 PM ^
SIAP, but in retrospect do we know how injured Chase was during The Game? I mean, what injury was it, specifically, and was he at 80%? 50%? etc
I wonder how much this single injury led to the lack of pressure on Haskins and, thus, whether it was the central cause of the defensive woes all game.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:56 PM ^
Chase’s injury didn’t make the interior DL fail to get push for most of the season.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
That's true, it was generally pressure from the ends. With both Chase & Rashan injured against Ohio State, no one got any push.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
With the way OSU was getting the ball out, you absolutely needed pressure from the middle. Even a 100% chase can’t get to the QB three seconds after the snap.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
And Chase didn’t play DB in the OSU game either.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
Quite the paradigm shift from others in the same category. Since everyone seems to agree that it makes sense for players to "sit out" the bowl games that are not in the playoffs, will the the same logic be applied to Chase in calling him careless about his potential NFL future or foolish to put his body through that? Or is Chase making the right decision to play even though hurt and even though he could risk his NFL future?
