OT: Mario and Rod are done from Tigers broadcasts for the year
It's September, so they can get away with this. But what happens next year?
FSD says Mario Impemba and Rod Allen won’t call any games the remainder of the season.

Fans have been done with the Tigers for months...
September 7th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
Who are the Tigers?
September 7th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
CFB team Les Miles used to coach.

They shuffle Mario to a different team . Remember they are Fox Sports employees technically. Rod gets put back to the Diamonbacks.
They make due with with Gibson, Monroe and maybe Morris for a year. Bring in a new PBP guy or poach Dickerson from radio.
I'd be cool with Josh Lewin, he knows Gibby. He wasn't bad for those awful teams
September 7th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
The D'backs don't want Rod. No MLB team wants Mister "Rice and Beans".
Mario can stay. I liked Josh Lewin over him, but I believe there were some issues between him and Gibby. Or at least it sounded like it on the air.

Did not know these two called Clemson football games. Sad!
September 7th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
Next year, there is zero chance Rod Allen works for FSD or the Tigers. He was already being phased out (and I'm sure would have been on even fewer broadcasts if Gibby was not impacted by health issues), so he didn't have a great standing anyway.
No way the Tigers or FSD keeps him around now.
Mario *may* have a chance to stay, if it's true Rod got Mario in a choke hold. If, however, it was more mutual pushing/shoving, and that's it -- Mario will be gone as well.
September 7th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
From what I read, Rod pursued Mario... It seems to me that Mario was trying to cool off and Rod just wouldn't let it go.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
Too bad there is zero chance of a Tigers pitcher throwing a no-hitter. Then they could not talk about it from home.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
10 years too late, but glad they're both gone.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
How can two guys develop that kind of hatred toward each other calling baseball games?
September 7th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ^
I don't know it's a hard job. 155 games a year. 3 hours minimum a game for what 15 years now.
Plus flights and bus trips and planning. Not many people spend that much time with their significant others.
September 7th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
That's true. I guess I had not thought of it in those terms.
September 7th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
I developed a hatred for Mario listening to him.... and he doesn't get to correct me every time I mis-speak. That bastard is obnoxious. Gibby would have knocked him out eventually.
September 7th, 2018 at 8:01 PM ^
Gibby spiked a young girl. Don't put anything past him
September 7th, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
One rumor is that Rod was slacking off in game prep and it was driving Mario nuts.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
Now there is truly no fight left in the organization.
September 7th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
I never believed the rumors that they didn’t get along. They hid it well on the air.
September 7th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
If I had to sit in a confined space with Rod Allen for 162 games a year it would have come to blows years ago.
September 7th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
Apparently Rod thought Mario took his chair before the game. Tension slowly built throughout the game. That’s just what I heard
September 7th, 2018 at 3:16 PM ^
I see you young fella
but I just hate Mario for being a State grad
September 7th, 2018 at 4:53 PM ^
But Gibby is hard to listen to and went to State, strike two!
September 7th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
Let thee who has never beat the shit out of someone as a result of watching a Tigers game cast the first stone.
September 7th, 2018 at 4:05 PM ^
LOL Kermits Blue Key! If I was able to upvote on this new "improved" site, as I was able to do on the old site, I would upvote you for sure!
September 7th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
They should be permanently replaced with their counterparts: Luigi and Cone.
September 7th, 2018 at 9:35 PM ^
+1 made me LOL.?
September 7th, 2018 at 4:20 PM ^
Good, maybe we will get two tolerable replacements; both were annoying imo.
September 7th, 2018 at 4:25 PM ^
Rick Rizzs and Bob Rathbun?
September 7th, 2018 at 4:33 PM ^
After the news that this might have stemmed from an argument over a chair, call me not at all shocked. I mean, I had heard that they really couldn't stand each other, but it is still kind strange that it actually came to blows and ended like it did, if this is indeed the end.
September 7th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
Isnt this a reward? Now they dont have to watch Tiger baseball...
September 7th, 2018 at 5:00 PM ^
Can we get Al Kaline and a hologram George Kell for next year?
September 7th, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
Rumor is that Rick Rizzs has been patiently waiting for this opening.
September 7th, 2018 at 5:59 PM ^
A fitting end to the Rod Allen era: forever being known as the Second Deck guy
September 7th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
Gibby and Shep are doing the game tonight, sound pretty good. I like Shep calling basketball games, I really like Gibby's knowledge even though most people think he's dry.
September 7th, 2018 at 9:25 PM ^
That's a good combo. Shep is a pro with a great voice
September 7th, 2018 at 9:36 PM ^
Sheps voice is smooth. Like crushed purple velvet....
September 7th, 2018 at 9:57 PM ^
We might not yet know exactly what happened between Rod and Mario, but one thing is sure: the punishment must especially sting the both of them this weekend, as it is the 50th anniversary celebration of the 1968 World Championship Tigers.
September 7th, 2018 at 10:06 PM ^
Just like 1968---the Tigers win it in the 9th!
Candelerio with a 2-run 2-out dinger for the win!
