Congrats to him, but to call him a fantastic Michigan man is generous IMO.
Before I scrolled down, I wondered how long until someone said something about that...
Didn't have to scroll far, turns out it was the first comment!
If the worst thing he did was punch an obnoxious ohio state fan, i'll take it.
That alone should cover for most of the other wrong doings.
dayenu
I think everyone would. But it wasn't...
I think it had something to do with the Brendan Gibbons sexual assault thing. Something about confronting the woman...I don't really remember
He threatened to rape her in retaliation for reporting Gibbons's assault.
I genuinely don't remember this, but was that ever reported by a reliable source, or was it hearsay? I seem to remember it having at least a petina of credibility, but I don't remember what the source was.
For some reason, the people on this board wish to drag his name through the mud over some heresay. Taylor loved his time at Michigan, and loved Ann Arbor and the team.
IT WASN'T HERESAY. Multiple people on his own team reporting his threats to rape the rape victim. This was reported from MULTIPLE news outlets. Here's an example:

Mgo rides Zach Smith hard (justifiably), but gives TL a pass......?
That website hasn't been updated since 2016. Can it really be considered a "news outlet"?
it's also in the police report:
"then I'm going to rape her because, [Gibbons] didn't."
http://www.washtenawwatchdogs.com/uploads/7/6/7/4/7674794/ann_arbor_pol…
The detroit CBS affiliate also did a piece if I remember correctly....
Lol, so you're saying a man should have his name dragged through the mud about a comment he supposedly said about a crime that the police decided to not press charges on?
What kind of lunacy is this?!?
I suppose if you want to argue that the act of threatening to rape someone should be forgotten at some point, especially if the threat was from when the perpetrator was young, you might be able to sway me a bit.
But don't act like this wasn't a legit accusation. Multiple teammates reported him, and the victim found out about his threats.
9 years is a long time, but lots of people have daughters, or have been sexually assaulted, so this could be hard to let go for them. So I wasn't surprised when multiple people on the board brought this issue up.
He's a heck of a player, and truly, I'm glad he got paid. Maybe he could donate some tax deductible monies to help victims of sexual assault.....
He didnt say it to the victim sdo stop fucking phrasing it as if he threatened her... he said that crap to teammates which is terrible but its not the same as saying it to the alleged victim. You're a cunt for making it out to be like he told her if she went to police he would rape her...that's not what was reported.. she found out he said it from his teammates
Just stop. You can be a great football player and not a great human being.
It's in a police report as someone relaying something she heard from someone else. I'm not saying he didn't say that, but there isn't some mountain of evidence. It's hearsay, and that's it.
Any source that refers to the Gibbons situation as a "cover up" is not a news source. There was no criminal charge. The victim did not seek administrative proceedings through the school. What was covered up?
I don't know there was a "coverup" per se, but I do know that TL absolutely threatened the woman. Here's the University of Michigan's police report responding to the allegations from the teammates, wherein the victim and Lewan are interviewed.

That doesn't mean we can't be happy for him. I'm happy for anyone who gets paid. If I saw him in a bar I might even buy him a beer, and would definitely congratulate him on a day like this.
But if you say there isn't any fire with this guy, don't be surprised if some people reply with "yeah, but there's a lot of smoke."
As was pointed out previously, you are a dishonest cunt. Again, you’re phrasing your statements disingenuously in an attempt to make it sound like Taylor Lewan walked up to some girl and threatened to rape her. You know damn well that is a flash out lie. And when you need to repeatedly lie about an incident in hopes of convincing others, you should banned.
So because the victim decided to not press charges nothing must have happened? Really, you do know a large percentage of sexual assaults do not go to court, let alone get reported. So I guess they just didn't happen??? If an alleged victim is threatened and doesn't report it, it didn't happen. WOW!
Please re-read my post. I said there was no cover up, not that the rape didn't happen.
LA, you are semantically correct, the tone, or my interpretation of your tone, was a "nothing to see here, move along".
Your second sentence is a complete non sequitur from your first.
Not for “some reason.” The reasons have been pretty well documented (and are included throughout this thread).
Police investigated but the video footage of the incident did not show him hitting or making contact with the OSU fan.
...which he admitted to police.
Apart from that, a super great Michigan Man?
This isn't even close to being factual......
Yeah, he admitted it to AAPD during a taped interview, and it was transcribed in the police report. Unless you think the AAPD lied?
Not a “fantastic Michigan Man”. Not loved by everyone. But definitely a very good football player that played for Michigan.
He didn’t as that wasn’t confirmed or even stated in court. It’s your right to believe whatever you want, but you shouldn’t spread false bullshit.
He did not confront her. He said something extremely inappropriate to other people. He was a freshman who felt he was sticking up for his friend. A very bad move on his part, but nothing he should not be forgiven for at this point.
you have to admit though, if more than one of your teammates reported you to the police, there's got to be part of you that's a bit unhinged.
Being unhinged once is not a reason for me to hate someone who has otherwise been a great representative of Michigan, and a fine Michigan Man.
No one is asking you to hate him, just not to hold him up as an example as a fine Michigan Man.
dsizzle is a dishonest punk pushing a lie. Read the full police reports which I’m assuming you’ve never done.
Taylor, in a moment of anger, while speaking to teammates in a private conversation, he stated he was angry about what he perceived to be a wildly false rape accusation made against a close teammate. We’ve seen repeatedly how false rape accusations can destroy the life vets of innocent men. In that moment of anger, he made an angry statement.
So dsizzle wants us to know he’s a perfect human who has never lost his cool. And that he’s a jerk. She found out from the grapevine from other players who may or may not have had a bone to pick with Lewan, but then you don’t know all the facts do you?
The OP is certainly noteworthy for the fact that an ex UM player was able to score such a historical contract. The fact you’ve wanted us all to know your concern trolling cred in all its idiotic glory by lying makes you worse than those you attack.
Also, the report says the rape victim found out about Lewan's threats at a grad school concert, so the teammates that reported him to the police weren't the only people who knew about it. Everyone knew.
Not sure if you have a daughter, but I don't know what I would do as a father in that situation.
Even if you think Gibbon's was completely 100% innocent (I don't know anyone who does), threatening to rape someone is never ok.
I do have a daughter.
I also have friends. It's different now that I'm twice the age of a college freshman, but I remember how powerful friendship was at the point in my life. And if one of my best friends was accused of rape, and he swore to me he didn't do it, I don't know what I would have said at that point in my life. Can anyone here really say how they would have reacted?
You make a great point.
You might be the first person who had changed someone's mind on the internet. Congratulations.
I'm a bit relieved to be honest. It's much more enjoyable to root for someone than against.
. . . I . . . do not know what to do now.
lol! you could go outside. Last chance before football starts....
I agree, but it seems pretty likely that that wasn't the worst thing he did.
Unfortunately I don’t think that was the worst thing he did.
Except it wasn’t. Allegedly, anyway.
But yeah, I have zero sympathy for any OSU fans he may have punched. They chose to run their mouths in a Michigan bar after they won. Not sure what they were expecting to happen, but they brought that on themselves.
I feel like if there weren't broken bones, nobody gets stabbed, and everyone left breathing, there should have been nothing made of it. My friends and I used to get into bar fights all the time, often fighting each other.
Congrats... That is a lot of money guaranteed... They seem to love him in Nashville... I know my Panthers would love to have a tackle that was worth that much smdh...
I can appreciate the concerns that NFL lineman have regarding the risk of concussions. But damn - $50 million guaranteed perhaps levels out the "risk-reward".
No kidding. $50M guaranteed(properly invested, of course) is the kind of money that ensures that your next 3-4 generations never have to worry about money for their entire lives.
I don't know about 3-4 generations but next 1-2 for sure...even if you invest it well. When you grow a family exponentially, he has 2 kids who then have 2 kids, etc., the money dries up FAST.
