CTK Day 8 - Scrimmage #2 Highlights
August 23rd, 2013 at 7:57 AM ^
I saw lots of nice plays by Stribling. Wilson had a nice knock away. And Shane tossing it 50-60? yards on a short drop was physically impressive even if it was into tight coverage.

I feel a lot better about Morris being the back-up after watching that video.
August 23rd, 2013 at 10:37 AM ^
Love that he was all over his man like glue. Morris put that throw right in stride for whoever the receiver was, he was just blanketed.
August 23rd, 2013 at 2:02 PM ^
I think the WR is Jehu Chesson.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:24 AM ^
holy shit. this video is asking me to sit through 136 seconds of advertisements? that is unprecedented man.
August 23rd, 2013 at 10:01 AM ^
i only had to sit through 15 seconds of some sexy stir fry commercial

Why don't you ever respond to my winks on fattyandhairyhookup? You're my favorite kind of ungulate.

what browser are you using? You can get an update thru chrome that eliminates all ad's on any video

Wow... Channing Stribling looks extremely tall, and he made some great plays on the ball....
August 23rd, 2013 at 7:57 AM ^
Channing Stribling was everywhere.
De'Veon Smith run looked like his highschool highlight reel.
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:02 AM ^
The spin move was really nice, but then to keep his balance and wade through all that garbage and come out the other side was amazing.
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:09 AM ^
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:22 AM ^
Also, probably his single best attribute, which I highlighted, is his balance. He just seems to be able keep/regain his feet when he gets hit. I'm really glad to see that it is translating to the college level.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:40 AM ^
smith's practice highlights have looked better than green's. on a somewhat related note, chris bryant had a nice block on green's run.
August 23rd, 2013 at 11:58 AM ^
You mean the 10-15 or so combined runs we've seen of them? Pretty small sample size if you ask me. Granted, the runs we have seen from Smith look pretty good. Just saying we haven't seen that many from either.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:53 AM ^
I reminds me a little bit of Marshall/Gurley out of Georgia. Marshall was the more heralded recruit, but Gurley looked better his freshman year.
I love that we got Green and Smith in this previous class. I think they're both going to do great things at Michigan.
August 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 AM ^
This^^^
They are actually a nice compliment to each other. It won't be one or the other down the road, it will be both.
When the young OL's step up, this O is going to be nasty (to go along with the nasty D.)
The future looks bright. What makes a champion is not having any weaknesses to expliot. That's much more important than having a few ultra-stars surrounded by some exploitable players.
The whole theme of not having many recruiting candidates that can be called sleepers because they're all solid 4-stars is the most exciting development in Michigan football in years. Moreso that the 5-stars that show up.
Combined with the solid coaching they'll get, it produces a team without exploitable weaknesses.
August 23rd, 2013 at 10:56 AM ^
I'll just come right out and say it. Deveon looked like Mike Hart on that one play.
August 23rd, 2013 at 12:33 PM ^
I wish I could argue, but I can't. If there's a difference, it's that Smith is bigger and is able to finish runs through people and fall forward. Hart would have to do a final juke to find a way to fall forward, but he always did. I'm not saying he'll be Hart, but he has a hell of an upside from what we've seen.
The more I see Deveon, the more excited I get. The only issue in my mind is the interior OL. I know I'm the first to express that concern.

Stribling looks to be the real deal. He is big and can cover man to man
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:11 AM ^
Not sure who's running 1's and 2's but Chris Bryant looked a little gimpy out there too.
Fingers crossed for the OLine to come together sooner rather than later. Notre Dames Dline is going to be a Huge, Huge test for team.
GO BLUE!!
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:21 AM ^
Our OL looked to be getting knocked off the ball pretty good. Hopefully that means we have the best DL in the nation.....
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:36 AM ^
I'm not sure how much it matters, but it looked like Lewan didn't play on any of these snaps, or maybe not at all. This probalby doesn't help with the pass pro.
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:25 AM ^
the oline didnt look stellar but Lewan wasnt out there and it seemed like every hightlight showed a different combination.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:18 AM ^
Because if not, sans Lewan & Schofield it's unfair to judge the line.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:31 AM ^
Schofield did play a little, but not much at all. Same goes for Chris Bryant, who apparently has secured the LG spot. It also sounds like Joe Reynolds is the early favorite to win the outside WR spot opposite Gallon. This is all word of mouth stuff, so take it for what its worth.
August 23rd, 2013 at 10:02 AM ^
Reynolds made a great catch. He supposedly has good speed, so hopefully he can have a real good senior season. He must know the system inside-out by now.
August 23rd, 2013 at 1:09 PM ^
Reynolds is a state champion and three-time all-stats performer in TRACK. Speed has never been a problem for him. It appears he's finally using his physical gifts...though I still think Chesson plays more. But they'll both play a lot.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:41 AM ^
schofiled got beat pretty bad by cam gordon. schofield was at LT on that play.
August 23rd, 2013 at 11:36 AM ^
Was very impressed with what I saw from Channing!
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:07 AM ^
August 23rd, 2013 at 10:56 AM ^
He already has that footwork that Al likes to see.
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:08 AM ^
Stribling is everywhere, but very very skinny.
Great run by Smith and Green's one run was good. Did I not see Fitz with any carries?

Gallon as well.
August 23rd, 2013 at 12:40 PM ^
Stribling is on the slight side, but it doesn't seem to impact his tackling. He looked good and I'm not as concerned about his size. Yes, it would be good if he were a bit bigger, and a long season could wear him down, but it isn't like he's playing the 1-tech.

Hope I'm wrong.
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:35 AM ^
i think it goes back to chemistry. I think the fact that there is still competition this late in the camp because that is what the coaches want, you have guys who are playing worried and thinking to much instead of just letting their natural ability show. Why do u think coaches name their starters at QB so early? To allow them to make mistakes with the first group but also to play through them and get better as a team.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:08 AM ^
From what little we've seen in these highlights, Funchess looks improved and that could be a real difference maker this season. If he can put it all together, he can be our #2 receiver this year.
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:15 AM ^
Channing making some plays out there in the secondary. Kind of cool.
