Actually, it isn't really unfortunate because the fact that there is talk that Avery passed Taylor on the depth chart means he is playing better. Taylor showed last season that he could hold his own at corner and had a pretty solid season, so if Avery has indeed passed him on the depth chart (as the reports have been suggesting) than that can only be good news I guess.

#2 QB: Morris
RB (in order): Toussaint, Green, Rawls, Smith, Hayes, Johnson, Shallman
FB (in order): Kerridge, Houma, Shallman
LG: Braden
C: Glasgow (Miller to start by end of the year)
SDE: Heitzman (Wormley to start by end of the year)
MLB: Morgan (is this really a "battle"?)
SLB: Gordon (though I could see this being pretty 50/50; Gordon with the superior coverage skills, but Beyer with better rushing/run support skills)
#2 CB: Taylor
P: Wile

I just went for a run over the E. Stadium Bridge and stopped to catch a couple minutes of plays...
Devin threw a pick, reeled in with a high jump by Jarrod Wilson
When Devin went out, Morris went in (So I'll say he's gonna be #2 in the fall) and threw a completion for about 10 yards + 10 YAC. Didn't catch the name of the receiver. Ben Braden was playing at LT for the couple plays I saw.
Too far from the field / busy to see anything else really.
August 15th, 2013 at 9:45 PM ^
He'll probably start at G this year, but just to season him. His future is probably at LT, with Magnuson at RT (They may flip for non LH QB's).

#2 QB - Morris
RB (put in order) - Green, Touissant, Smith, Rawls, Hayes, Johnson (by end of year, Smith is #2, but Touissant is 3rd down back throughout)
FB (put in order) - Kerridge, Houma, Shallman (with Houma making a push through the year)
#1 LG - Braden
#1 C - Glasgow (could go either way, and if Glasgow, does better than expected, but still meh)
#1 SDE - Wormley
#1 MLB - Morgan
#1 SLB - Gordon and Beyer split time nearly evenly. Gordon "starts" but irrelevant distinction.
#"2" CB - Taylor
#1 P - Wile

August 15th, 2013 at 6:59 PM ^
Morris
Toussaint, Green, Rawls, Hayes, Johnson, Smith redshirts
Kerridge, Houma, Shallman... but I don't mthink Shallman is purely a FB
Braden without a doubt
Miller to start the year, but if he struggles they'll give Glasgow a shot..... and I think if they both struggle and Kugler is playign well in practice they give the job to him
Heitzman, and I actually think he'll be pretty solid there
Morgan
Beyer, but it'll be more of a platoon
Taylor
Wile

but can't really say I disagree with you. With Green and Smith in the same class it would be nice to get the a year apart and there is no way Green is going to RS. I would like to see them give a RS to Smith but given the data we have it doesn't seem likely. If he doesn't RS I think he will be just behind Green and Fitz on the depth chart as none of the others have proven they can do much at the college level.
August 15th, 2013 at 7:04 PM ^
#2 QB - Shane Morris but I hope he does not play a snap this season and Devin plays every snap.
RB (put in order) - Toussaint, Green, Hayes, Rawls, Johnson......redshirt Smith
FB (put in order) - Kerridge, Shallman, Houma
#1 LG - Braden
#1 C - Miller
#1 SDE - Heitzman
#1 MLB - Morgan

that Morris doens't RS. This isn't EA sports and he won't get RS'd and leave the potential for us to have a walk-on be the only thing behind Gardner. The staff learned last year what problems have one unproven backup can lead to.
Morris will get involved early and as often as possible so that if a repeat of the Nebraska game happens this year and our staring QB goes down in a tight game we will have someone who actually has some experience able to come into the game. I'm not saying for sure he will win the backup job, but he will get some game experience so that even if he doesn't need to be called upon this year because of injury, he will have some game experience going into next year and thus be a somewhat known commodity.

That 4th quarter of mop up time for Bellomy against UMass last year didn't help him much in lincoln...
Now let's never talk about that game again.

2) fake injury after a few games
3) apply for medical redshirt
4) .....
5) profit on Morris jersey sales in his 5th year
August 15th, 2013 at 11:27 PM ^
What I meant the post is that I pray Devins stays 100% this season and the rest of his career.
The backup situation scares me and I rather redshirt Morris personally. IF Michigan is beating a team up really badly, then put in Cleary.
Wish we would have picked up a QB in the 2012 class or a JUCO kid this offseason for more insurance.

Morris - I think Hoke maybe let it slip a bit in his presser today
Toussaint, Smith, Green, Hayes, Rawls, Johnson - Fitz is looking good and has the experience. People are sleeping on Deveon Smith, with Green hobbled a bit, I think the #2 is for the taking. Green probably takes over as the season goes on though.
Kerridge
Braden - Dude is massive and can move, Glasgow IMO is going to get the start at C at the last minute much like Mealer did last year
Glasgow - My feeling is if Miller was going to win the job he would have done it by now
Morgan - Very close and probably doesn't make much difference as they will both play (as well as Ross)
Gordon - Beyer's injury isn't going to help. I think it's Gordon
Taylor - Hard to believe Avery and Taylor would flip flop from last year. Both are mature players and it would be surprising to see on make a big push and/or one to take a big step back.
Wile

I'm going to skip over a couple:
Morris v. Cleary - Morris. Nothing against Cleary, but Shane just has a lot of talent, however raw he is right now. And as much as it sucks to think about burning his redshirt, we don't have a lot of viable options behind Gardner right now. Shane is our future, or at least that's what we've all been saying for the last few years since he committed, and he needs to get some snaps this year and get his feet wet, even if its just garbage time. I'm operating under the assumption that he'll win the backup job due to talent, so he needs to get as many reps as possible in the event that Gardner goes down, that he can at least be serviceable. If that does happen, though, hopefully the O-Line gels very quickly, and Fitz/Green become a lethal combo that we can just hand the rock off to 35-40 times a game.
RBs-Fitz will be our go-to man to start the season, at least. Green will be a complement to him, but will be chomping at the bit to get on the field. I predict he will have some huge breakout game at some point this year where he'll rush for 150+, and will really push Fitz for time. Hayes will slide into the V.Smith, 3rd down, change of pace back, Rawls will serve as the 3rd RB and get a few snaps a game, especially if we're up by 2-3 TDs. I know the coaches have raved about Drake, but I feel like he'll get lost in the mix. Smith might get a redshirt year simply because the cupboard is so full right now at RB, but he will become part of a big 1-2 punch with Green in the coming years, maybe even as soon as next year. But what do I know? He might be our starter by the end of the year. I've heard great things from him as well.
FB-Kerridge has the most experience right now. He's the man for the time being.
Miller vs. Glasgow: not sure, whoever's better, but I'd give the edge to Miller. Just as long as its not Kugler. Not yet. I know the man's about as technically sound as they come and mature beyond his years, but a freshman center just doesn't sound that appealing. And a true freshman at that. Hope he stays in the weightroom for the next 12 months.
Morgan v. Bolden: Morgan due to experience, and Morgan is no slouch, anyway. But Bolden will see the field plenty this Fall, regardless. He's too good to not play.
Taylor v. Avery-I see Avery as more of the nickel corner, where he'll get pushed for time by Dymonte. Taylor performed very well last year after Countess went down, and I think we'll see him manning the opposite side of the field for the time being.

A couple of thoughts:
1. I don't think Bryant has any experience playing center, as far as I know. And I don't think Bryant has any in-game experience. He's a year older, but he had that broken leg that knocked him out for a year.
2. Generally, I don't think you want your centers to be "big body" types. There has been just as much (if not more) concern about Glasgow being too big than there is about Miller being too small.

#2 QB - Morris. And I think he should play in games. The RS is overrated.

FB (put in order) - Kerridge, Shallman, Houma
#1 LG - Braden
#1 C - Miller
#1 SDE - Heitzman
#1 MLB - Morgan
#1 SLB - Gordon, but this is more situational than anyting
#"2" CB - Taylor

Glasgow? #1 C - Glasgow (He wants it more), Miller? #1 SDE - Heitzman (experience) or Wormley (rotated in for sure) #1 MLB - Morgan over Bolden? #1 SLB - Gordon (he's worked hard will play 60 percent), Beyer (will be in against run formations) CB - Taylor over Avery?
