Rutgers Joins B1G, it's official
Noticed there wasn't a thread topic and thought I'd start one. We now have the only state that doesn't have a university of that state, Rutgers is actually supposed to be the U of NJ in a nutshell, in the B1G.
If you would have told me a few years ago, heck, a few weeks ago that MD and Rutgers will join the B1G, I would have laughed uncontrollably, I'm not laughing right now, sad panda I am.

just thought I would start a thread since this is now official, that's all. Not trying to be redundant, I realize we've been discussing this ad nauseum, I surely don't want to upset anyone.

won the election, but he hasn't been sworn in yet. We should probably start a thread when he gets sworn in, since it'll be official then.

There isn't a thread topic on big ten expansion? Wow - it seems like that would be important. Maybe you should create some more threads on this subject.

They make these really greasy sandwiches called fat cats. They contain french fries, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and marinara sauce, for example. If you eat one, you are happy until your heart inevitably explodes. Other than that, I've got nothing.

Unintentional pissing off is a plague on our society. It's not as devestating as intentional pissoing off, also known as Buckeyeosis.
November 20th, 2012 at 9:37 PM ^
You didn't piss anyone off; they pissed themselves off. But your thread can be seen as a great "enabler" for those who want to be pissed off.

OP is kinda wrong.
NJ also has TCNJ - The College of New Jersey.
It's NJ's more liberal artsy (second-tier) public school.
November 20th, 2012 at 2:48 PM ^
The only reason why I know this is because someone at my wife's work went there... and when she told me she went to TCNJ, I blurted out, "yea right? there's no such thing as a TCNJ, unless it's one of those online degree websites like the University of Phoenix." Apparently, I was wrong, it's a real school.... but you can't blame me, it sounds kind of imaginary.
November 20th, 2012 at 3:38 PM ^
For what it's worth TCNJ is a pretty nice school too. I attended several sports camps there when I was a youngin.
Additional for what it's worth, I actually don't mind Rutgers football joining, they are an up incoming program (thanks schiano) and they have done it by harnessing the states athletes which were almost continuously poached by other program in prior years.

"Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey" is the official name of Rutgers University.

Know what a good Wikipedia search taught me? Delany is from New Jersey and went to school at UNC. Maybe dude's just got an affinity for the East Coast, eh?
November 20th, 2012 at 2:53 PM ^
Yeah, it's kind of assumed that he would never seal off UNC from being able to join the B1G, which presumes he's also not going to seal off Duke, and if the ACC was destroyed there would be two spots for those schools. I'd assume Duke/UNC are spots 17/18 if it ever gets to that.
November 20th, 2012 at 3:53 PM ^
it should also be pointed out that, while Western PA is definitely culturally aligned with the Big Ten area, PSU itself is in a different part of the state, one that certainly identifies more closely with Maryland and NJ than the Great Lakes. So this eastward ho thing has been going on since they entered the league... in a move that a lot of people at the time expected to make us a player in the northeast fwiw.
November 20th, 2012 at 3:05 PM ^
So...
how will scheduling/divisions work in 2013 when Maryland comes in, and 2014 when Rutgers does? I can't remember how the sudden rescheduling worked with Nebraska, to be honest.
November 20th, 2012 at 3:10 PM ^
We need a long term perspective on Rutgers and Maryland.
Here's one: I just spent Saturday night watching two compelling games that determined who will play for the CFB National Championship: Oregon vs. Stanford and Kansas State vs. Baylor.
Now here'e the long term perspective part from the me of 20 years ago:
"WTF?!! Oregon vs. Stanford and Kansas State vs. Baylor to determine who plays in the National Championship?? Are you F-ing kidding me? That's impossible, it could never happen. Oregon is a boring also-ran team, like Purdue in the Big Ten, and Stanford, Kansas State, and Baylor are awful and always will be. What could possibly ever change?"
Straight-line Interpolating today into the future is never a good forecasting method.
