I guess I'm the only one so far, but I pos'd this post just for the first sentence of the headline. Since I don't pay attention to the Steelers, I hadn't seen the unis yet, either.

Whoever designed those uniforms is waaaaay too huge a Blind Melon fan.
(/s, because like you, I realize they are throwbacks...)

First time I saw those unis was on the Ford Field big screen in "other game" highlights. I couldn't tell what the hell team it was. When they're in motion on the big screen, the black and yellow blend together and look brown, so I thought it was Cleveland instead. Do you think they'd burn them if someone told them they look like the Cleveland Browns?

The prison stripes and prison numbers look must be coming back into fashion...

I didn't want to be the first to jump into this fray for obvious albeit untrue reasons, but they do look like convicts.

it truly looks like they're working out in the prison yard.
EDIT: Sorry, Don. Didn't see your post below. Gotta stop being so enthusiastic.

I don't care what anyone thinks, the uniforms Oregon wore against USC last night looked amazing. Their other ones, not so much

that the Nike Ducks have ever stumbled into. In fact, the only uniform variation of their Phil Knight-funded dynasty that really really looked good.
The fact they beat USC last night was merely icing on the cake.

I think the problem is that these things show a lack of tradtion, and these frequent, perpetual changes forestall the start of any new ones. Before the modern era, i.e. free agency in pro sports, we all identified with the players on a particular team and (most importantly for a kid) their uniforms. For me, my current team alliances were formed when I was a kid, and without a doubt the winged maize and blue helmets immediately grabbed my eye when I was 5 years old and I've been a fan ever since (obviously now I can give a little more substance to my reasons for being a fan). We cheer for "teams", and in the era of comings and goings one of the only constants remaining is their uniforms. Sometimes, change is good; but, IMO better to be subtle and measured... I for one do not want to wake up tomorrow and see Notre Dame's neon pixie dust sprinkled all over our winged helmets.

Are we really surprised to see Ben Roethlisberger in prison stripes?

Monty Python definitely put it best:
"Half a bee, philosophically, must ipso facto half not be, but half the bee has got to be a vis-a-vis its entity."
When I saw these last week, my question was this - if someone's number changes for some reason, does someone have to get behind the uniform and manually change it in this "scoreboard" style?

I actually like them. They look like rugby uniforms though.

makes it look like they're in the yard of a minimum security prison.

it looks like they're having a good time there. 3 hots and a cot and we'll be out in 30 to 60.

I like these uniforms. I love how PITT treats their pro sports teams and having all the same colors for each. Totally awesome.
