Urban files complaint to B1G
I didn't see this posted yet, not really sure if it's post worthy. But apparently Urban has filed a complaint to the B1G about the whole "eye gouge" incident. I tend to lean more towards the side of this type of thing being pretty prevelant in the trenches, and no action should really be taken. However I do think it IS pretty "Bush League," as that idiot Matt Millen put it on CFB Live.

Uh, Hoke did exactly the same thing after the helment twist last year.
By that logic, Hoke is "busch league" as well?
October 2nd, 2012 at 3:51 PM ^
But I believe OP was saying the eye-gouging was buss league

Yes, I was referring to the eye-gouging being bush league.
October 2nd, 2012 at 11:18 PM ^
I feel like "busch league" would bea beer pong tournament played exclusively with products from Anheuser-Busch
October 2nd, 2012 at 3:49 PM ^
I don't blame Urban for this, it was not something that should be tolerated. Looking at the video, it did look like both the MSU and OSU guy were trying to do the same thing, still not cool to tolerate it.
October 2nd, 2012 at 3:57 PM ^
The OP is probably right that it happens all the time, but when you get caught, some kind of action needs to be taken. I don't fault Meyer for sending this in at all.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:38 PM ^
"It happens all the time" is ridiculous.
Yeah, it's an agressive game, but intentionally inflicting serious injury on your opponent should never be taken lightly.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:45 PM ^
Just that stuff like this probably happens a lot, and just isn't caught on ABC's cameras.
October 2nd, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
Is Bosch league. Sorry, had to go there.
October 2nd, 2012 at 7:56 PM ^
Sadly, the argument that "it happens all the time" is valid. The fact that it happens at all shouldn't be tolerated. The rules are in place; they just need to be enforced.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
Well, it's not valid in the games my crew works. Usually you have at least 2 if not 3 covering officials in 5 man mechanics and in college they work 7 man so you have 3 to 5 covering officials. Dead ball unsportsman like 15 yards and a first down. Second offense in Florida is removal from the game...an ejection from any game results in an immediate 6 game suspension that can extend into the next year (if you have one). You can appeal but it takes 2 weeks to hear the appeal.
I hear the same meme about holding as well, but this is for a different thread.

If they were enforced, Taylor Lewan would be booted out of CFB entirely. Which might be good for him, as it would allow him to focus on his KKK duties as Grand Wizard.

Because the only one I could find it's a poor camera angle, but to me it looked like Hankins was trying to push Jack Allen away with a flat hand. Allen though was purposefully trying to shove his hand into Hankins' helmet.
October 2nd, 2012 at 3:51 PM ^
Have to believe it happens everywhere. I only played HS ball but it happened there too. I've moved on from this one.
October 2nd, 2012 at 5:56 PM ^
I played high school ball and never had anything remotely similar to this happen. I always wondered what people meant when they said this stuff happened on every pile up at every level. I assumed that was back in the 60's.
October 2nd, 2012 at 3:53 PM ^
It's not the biggest deal in the world, but it should be addressed.

Just to be that guy, the correct term is Bush league, as in out in the Bush or the Sticks. It is a baseball term stemming from small town, minor league teams. It isn't referring to Busch Light drinkers, or hillbilly types.

I was gonna join one.

I prefer the Miller leagues.

Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of brewery products.

My first thought when I saw this was that it was retaliation for MSU filing a complaint against OSU. Basically this all sounds like one big slap fight between Dantonio and Meyer.

October 2nd, 2012 at 4:01 PM ^
This kind of stuff happens, just not always caught on film. I saw both guys trying to do the same thing. Dantonio obviously coaches his guys up better at the technique, though. MSU getting bad tape from Ohio and now this, the heat building between these teams is nice to see.

You know that if it was our rivalry with IU, we'd want that protected too. I mean, who wouldn't want that game protected.

how hypocritical. brandon spikes in 09 as a senior eye gouged a Georgia tailback when Urban was coaching at florida. The man sat Spikes for a quarter the next game.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
I was thinking the exact same thing. He has nothing to gain by this, so I'm still trying to figure out the point. Maybe he's just getting back at them for calling him out on the film issue.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:18 PM ^
I do agree that he is prob just trying to get back at Dantonio for the film thing. I'm sure had he not made an issue of that, this also would have been left alone.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:15 PM ^
I could be wrong, but I thought he suspended him for the entire next game... This was also mentioned on CFB Live.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:22 PM ^
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:28 PM ^
According to wikipedia, that's correct. Meyer suspended him for a half and he lengthened it to the full game.

Matt Millen would have been a great satire writer. His work with the Lions of Detroit was 8 years of satire brilliance.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:09 PM ^
I disagree, it was much more of a Greek tragedy.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:34 PM ^
Greek tragedy usually has a hero. Millen was just a fool and a scumbag.

...we come to learn that Wayne Fontes was actually an unappreciated genius.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:25 PM ^
Yes, this stuff happens all the time. No, it should not be completely overlooked. No, we don't need to spend any more time talking about it. Both coaches look like whiny little girls.
October 2nd, 2012 at 4:25 PM ^
Busch league refers to Nascars shit league.. I believe the trucks.. Not out in the Bush..I dont care if im that guy
October 2nd, 2012 at 5:05 PM ^
Merriam Webster doesn't care if he's that guy, either.

iirc, in the post-game interviews after the loss to Michigan State last year, everyone representing Michigan bit their tongue and refused to complain (about the Denard Helmet twist, and Gholston behavior, and what happened with Lewan, etc., etc.,) The comments from Michigan coaches and players were all along the lines of, "Football is a tough game, and you have to play it that way." Even is Hoke filed something with the league office, it is important not to whine, but to learn from the situation and play hard the next time.
I guess it is ok for Meyer to bring this to the league office, but complaining usually doesn't end all that well.
On a related note, I think it is becoming increasingly clear to Ohio fans that in the Big 10, it is open season on Braxton Miller. They have to see some of the similarities between what happened with Denard the last couple years, and what is happening with Miller. Miller is clearly a great athlete. But there comes a point where you have to weigh the benefit of a QB putting himself in harms way for a first down, versus saving yourself for another day. I wouldn't be surprised if Miller is pretty beat up by the end of the season. Nebraska will be tough, and it doesn't hurt Michigan that Ohio plays Wisconsin the week before.
