PSU Scandal 7/19 Thread
Open thread for Penn State news and discussion.
Today is one week since the Freeh Report was released and it is surreal to think how much has changed at Penn State in one year. This short documentary on Paterno was released a little over one year ago, and the meaning of it has changed so much since then that it is frightening:
These are the videos that are being released about Paterno and Penn State now:
It's a well titled thread that keeps everything in one place and doesn't clutter the board. Done with the scandal? Don't click on the damn thread labeled "scandal".
Please make it stop.
Discussions about how we can benefit from the scandal is generally not allowed.
there's this thing, called thread titles, that you click to visit threads. I don't know how to stop clicking them if you're not interested in what's described either. Might have to talk to someone who knows the internet better than I do.
You're assuming that we have free will. But what if we're just part of the Matrix?! Then what?!
that we live in a simulacrum of a universe generated by computers, but we would not have any physical bodies in meatspace. This is for the reason that any culture that has advanced enough technology to recreate entire universes in the lab would do so multiple times to study different starting conditions and cosmic fates. I for one love my unseen silicon mother.
While I agree with your general sentiment that if you aren't interested in a thread topic, then don't waste your time by clicking on it, and really don't waste your time and ours by commenting on it... BUT I think the objections to this particular thread are valid because there isn't any actual news presented in the thread title or header, which are both about a topic that has been discussed to death on this board (and many others).
If a daily thread is going to be created about this topic even if there isn't anything new to discuss, when exactly will those daily threads stop? Never?
The sentiment of creating an 'open' thread so as to contain all of the news and information that comes out in a day into one thread is a noble one, but maybe we could wait until something new actually comes out before creating such a thread each day. Just a thought.
EDIT: OP, did you really upvote your own thread? Way to go, dude.
I think the fact that this trhead actually generated no discussion about the PSU scandal is only further evidence of its failure.
It remains a huge news event re one of M's top B10 rivals. And the thread is well headlined. The subject is far more valid than, say, storm pics by Dhani Jones or NCAA 13 video-game crap. So, hey, here's an idea: Why don't those of you who think this thread is a waste of time stop wasting your time and ours by posting under this thread. Jeez. What clouds the board are all the posts by whiners like you.
...in today's Wall Street Journal. I might have started a thread on it, but the column is part of WSJ.com subscriber-only content.
K.C. Johnson and Stuart Taylor, Jr. had co-authored "Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and the Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case". And in today's Journal, in an interesting twist on the general direction of most commentary, they were comparing the way that the Penn State Trustees were actually doing an open investigation, whereas Duke did everything it could, to sweep the malfeasance and excesses of its own faculty and administration (in falsely accusing the lacrosse team members of rape) under the rug.
Here's the link, with the aforementioned caveat that it is a subscriber link:
Would encourage everyone in this thread to click on the Taiwanese youtube animated news broadcast about the PSU scandal on the mgolicious threads.
but did we need to start an open thread if there's no actual news to report? (and I wouldn't consider youtube videos 'news')
stop this...
and stop this double posting thing...my bad
stop this...you are kicking off UM material with this crap
Signed, Mr. please kill me now
As sickening as this whole situation is, its just Penn State. we need to provide the link to Columbus, just a soap's throw away.
