Bulletin Board Remark from Dantonio
On Michigan getting a lot of good press this off season after a BCS win and very good recruiting:
"We're laying in the weeds," Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio says with a half smile. "We've beat Michigan the last four years. So where's the threat?"

"We're laying in the weeds," Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio says with a half smile. "We've beat Michigan the last four years. So where's the threat?"
The fact that the guy is petulant isn't exactly news. The real news is that Dantonio mustered a half-smile. Good for him!
April 18th, 2012 at 11:27 AM ^
He actually pulled a muscle doing it. I heard reports that he won't be able to try smiling again for at least another month or two.

I absolutely love the quote in your signature.
That's the look a man gives you before he murders your family with only his cold, dark hands.
It's cool, I have a black friend.
he has bad gas. Maybe it was a double beef buritto from that place on grand river.
I didn't realize the full extent of his goblin-ness.
.....Dantonio has become a tiresome bore.

How are they laying in the weeds if they have won 4 in a row?
April 18th, 2012 at 10:20 AM ^
He probably just means that their out of the spotlight, while Michigan is featured. So he uses the poker term to say that you can have all the glory now, but they're just slow-playing it and will come out on top, as usual, to paraphrase.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:33 AM ^
I think he just means "we've burnt all our couches and now have no choice but to lay in the weeds". Just as well because snakes like weeds, he's where he belongs.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:54 AM ^
they're SMOKING the weeds.

Whatever happened to "The pride comes before the fall," Dantonio?

As long as MSU needs Michigan to validate themselves, while MIchigan only needs Michigan to validate themselves, MSU will continue to be in an inferior position, wondering why they get called "little brother."
point with the little brother reference.
Isn't Michigan trying to validate its own program if some nerd who works for the team flocks to Facebook to call Dantonio's comment (which was brought up by media personnel, mind you) "bulletin board material"?
April 18th, 2012 at 10:07 AM ^
Losing 4 straight including two beatdowns should be more than enough "material" for this team.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:07 AM ^
*beaten

Let's just put them back in their place this year, then I can go back to really not caring about MSU.
I have no idea what else he could say. Its not like he can sit there and say "Yeah, Michigan is more talented and now with Brady there they are likely to run off another six game winning streak." Even if he sees the downfall coming, he still has to say things to keep his players, recruits, alum, and fanbase happy.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:09 AM ^
He says stuff like this because he needs this rivalry to be bigger than it has been for the sake of his own his program. The more attention from us that he can steal from OSU, the better. It's kind of sad that they use us to be relevant.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:30 AM ^
because the MSU fan base eats it up. The man is a puppet.

He's right, they've beat us the past 4 years. And that's all they've really done! I remember watching the Hoke press conference after last years MSU game. He said all the right things, that the game was fair and clean, but he looked like he just got jumped. He looked like he had come from the locker room with the team where he was angry. He looked pissed. No way he will let them come into our house and win after last year. He won't let the team forget the cheap shots, the taunts or the GIFs. I think this is one game Hoke tells Borges to keep scoring and Mattison to keep blitzing.

He won't let the team forget the cheap shots, the taunts or the GIFs.
Especially the GIFs. I'm sure he's got them playing on continuous loop somewhere.

They also finished 6-7 one of those years and lost at home to a Mac team. But Sparty being Sparty bases their entire football existence around Michigan so whatever.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:11 AM ^
April 18th, 2012 at 10:11 AM ^
I'm confident that we'll beat Sparty this year (in no small part because we're at home). Given recruiting and what Hoke has been able to do with this team I wouldn't be surprised if we went on to beat them at a Bo-like clip for teh next decade with few close games. Dantonio will handle this in an even shoddier fashion than he handles winning. Sparty will defend him, but all of his current bluster only serves to focus more attention on that game, and will only serve to make it more painful when the losing starts. "Laying in the weeds"...indeed.

Its these kind of things that keep the "little brother" label alive. Unsolicited advice: Just live your own life, MSU, and worry about yourself. Otherwise, you just look stupid.

April 18th, 2012 at 10:16 AM ^
I really couldn't care any less about what Dantonio has to say about us. We all know that MSU's existence is built around us, so what's another quote by Groucho Mark?
April 18th, 2012 at 10:17 AM ^
If they shuffle through too many recruiting classes like their last one (maybe two), their "depth" and stability" could be called into question.
April 18th, 2012 at 11:03 AM ^
But I'm concerned about how ridiculously deep at long snapper they are!

East Lansing = The Weeds.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:23 AM ^
they are also very good at growing the weed to hide in. the best weed, both for hiding in and for use in other horticultural and medical activites, can be found in and around east landing. not that there is anything wrong with that. hiding in weed physically, or hiding in it metaphorically by utilizing its medical qualities, is what mark is doing and doing well.

That's crab grass not weeds!
That's not crab grass. In Texas we call that a yard.
