"Little nephews"
When Mike Hart once publically referred to MSU as "little brother", I was not happy about it, because there is no more of a unifying force than saying something like that... and when you dominate an opponent, you shouldn't be crass about it. But he said it, and they ran with it. So be it.
Well, Derrick Nix just referred to MBB as "little nephew"..... to quote him... "We had to share it with our little nephews," center Derrick Nix said. "And that (stinks)."
Now is the time for Michigan to run with it, and let karma stick the condescension back in their faces.
eh ... whatever
edit: not to your post itself (upvote!), but to MSU & whatever thoughts they ever cook up, ever
#spartybutthurt
In high school he was too fat and slow to run downt the court. He would just go wait at the other end during everyone's free throws instead of rebounding.
He was THE Pershing Doughboy
I know who he is - he's a guy who's lost 3 out of his last 4 games against UM.
It would be different if it came from a player who is actually good.
Seriously. Just like with Michigan getting into a BCS bowl over MSU, it was their opportunity that they lost. But instead, they blame it on Michigan.
Not sure why this was moderated as flamebait. I think Dudeness was taling about the MSU guy, not M. Hart.
If you are going to talk trash, you have to back it up like Mike Hart against MSU, and not be some scrub who rides the success of others.
Meh. He can throw his little hissy fit. The most I can see MGoBlog responding to this is via a Kork Coupons meme
MSU using "familial relationship" references is not insulting. Mike Hart coined a phrase. MSU players and fans can't even come up with their own material.
This is not insulting to Michigan fans. Those who it would offend know nothing of the history of the UM/MSU rivalry.
"Mike Hart coined a phrase"
He didn't, it started with Dantonio. Hart was throwing it back at them after kicking their heads in.
marky mark is a punk for picking a fight with Hart. Lil Bro will never, can never, be anything like us in any sport. Their school sux @ss. No one cares about lil bro. I just wish they would go to the big east so we dont have to think about them anymore. Shew shew lil bro. Get along.
I mean, I guess I can see how you'd feel that way about Hart's comment but I don't even care about "little nephews".
Nix's comment was just stupid because it doesn't even make sense - little nephews? - he just couldn't come up with any real coherent diss about Michigan.
It's probably tough to talk shit about your rival when you're busy choking on a 15-point lead.
I laugh my ass off when I see stuff like this.
What Sparty will NEVER understand is that the Little Brother reference was made in context of, "they will always want to be / beat us, because they're envious of all of our attention as the bigger brother".
Big brother might have had a drug problem that caused him to go into rehab for a couple of years, but the beat downs will most assuredly be returning to the football field soon. Basketball? We're already there.
Hilarious! "drug problem"...EL OH EL. They also don't get that bring this up after their game only perpetuates the Big Brother label; their insecurities, on full display.
We don't have a drug problem, we can stop anytime.
Sparty Fail = Michigan Hail
.....(wait for it).....
(wait for it).....
CARES??
Awww, Sparty thinks they can trash talk? How cute.
That doesn't make sense... which, in its own way, totally makes sense.
No, I believe Penn State is the creepy uncle.
but Dantonio has the facial expressions and the body language of my extremely uptight aunt.
He definitely got us there
.
yes
.
Michigan leads in the all time series. Nix said that to raise some eyebrows. Mike Hart actually believed what he said, and was right about it.
I'm outraged! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!
1) Hart never called Sparty our "little brother." He used a little brother metaphor:
Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and you let him get the lead. Then you come back and take it from him."
Minor difference? Perhaps. But yeah.
2) I'm sorry, Mr. Nix. I can't hear you over the sounds of this LARGE BANNER BEING UNFURLED IN CRISLER. You'll have to speak into the microphone.
to recognize a metaphor, did you? Hart even got a rise out of their coach! Of course, there are a few radio personalities that didn't understand it either.
A lot of people have already touched on it, but it cracks me up whenever I hear any familial reference now. Not only can they not produce their own material, instead of talking about their accomplishments, they are talking about Michigan. That makes a larger statement than anything Mike Hart could have said.
Since right after Hart said that a reporter asked "So you think of MSU as your little brother" and he says "Yep".
asked Hart, who responded with a quick yep. It wasn't like he had time to sit and ponder the implications, specifications and ramifications of his answer. He also said he thought of them in that manner, he did not call them "little brother".
I think the reporter got the metaphor and was asking him to confirm it.
But, neither here nor there at this point I suppose as it's already stuck - personally think it's great and sums up the relationship between the two schools quite nicely.
The "Little Brother" quote has stuck, and stung, because MSU really does feel like the little brother. They can call us what they want, it won't sting because, well, we're Michigan and they, well, aren't. Sounds crass and stuck up, but it is what it is. No need to respond to a player's juvenile attempt to get under our skin. The facts on the ground are, and will remain for the foreseeable future, in our favor. The most stinging rebuttal is silence.
Don't little brothers always copy off their cooler, older brothers? Not surprised at the lack of originality.
P.S. Derrick - When you've lost 30 lbs and you still look like THAT, something is seriously wrong.
If I'm a little nephew to Sparty then they are the creepy uncle that you don't feel comfortable leaving your kids with alone.
I look forward to when the derivative nature of this trash talk reaches the point where "They're like our fourth cousin's stepchild" is necessary. I'm guessing that will be the 2031 women's volleyball team.
and guess that Beilein is not going to trash talk back by joking with reporters about Nix's body size. Just a hunch.
Please. John Beilein is a grown-up and the head coach of a major college athletics program. What coach in that position would ever lower themselves to engage in a public trash-talking match with an immature 20 year old player.....
Mork?
He said major program.
win or lose or choke they need to comment or involve Michigan, Can't even imagine living like that. Very sad .... but very funny.
Do you not realize that you're currently talking about them as well? The little brother thing needs to die. So too does the nonsense about us not caring about them at all, since this and infinite other posts clearly indicate otherwise.
Just because we don't really care about them doesn't mean we can't laugh at them.
THIS IS MICHIGAN
FERGODSAKES
As a wise young man once said to another spartan..."get the fuck off my court!" He knew where to do his talking, and I think this team does too.
