So now they are over their limit with a few more on the horizon.. I wonder how long before those kids that were ran out of town run their mouths ala rich rods first year... Would love to hear nc2a coming across more violations! Btw i think it speaks volumes we were in the hunt for such a supposed hard osu lean to start with
January 29th, 2012 at 11:05 PM ^
In the hunt but didn't close the deal.

Did you read his tweet? God himself recruited him to Ohio. Mattison took God right down to the wire, not too shabby.
January 30th, 2012 at 9:30 AM ^
Yes, lol, we missed a class guy.... most recent twitter as of 9.22a est:
"I hate driving in route 1 n seeing a cute girl in the car next to me n I can't stop n talk to her #sucksbooty"
The self-indictment of self-expression.
January 30th, 2012 at 10:00 AM ^
I too believe it sucks ass when I see a cute girl somewhere and can't talk to her. Do you feel I am not a class act?
That tweet doesn't seem outrageous at all, and I'm pretty sure the majority of our fanbase would have still wanted him.

Urban has said that he is recruiting with the expectations of more transfers. There are several players who have expressed an interest in transferring, but haven't actually gone through with it yet. The most notable player in this situation is Jaamal Berry, who may actually be on his way out anyways because he's currently being investigated for assault charges.
Also Tressel had a habit of saving 1-2 scholarships a year to give to a deserving walk-on, even though that player would never see the field. Those scholarships were always for one year, but Tressel usually kept the players on scholarship until their eligibility was used up. I highly doubt that Urban is going to feel obligated to keep this tradition going and will most likely return some of those players to walk-on status. The only players I can think of off the top of my head that are currently in this situation are Ricky Crawford and Adam Griffin.
So it's a reasonable assumption that 4-5 more scholarships will free up by the time fall practice starts up. I'm sure that Michigan fans can agree that attrition of players is a normal part of any coaching change.
As for Armani Reeves, I think both schools were equally as appealing to him and the X-factor became Cam Williams. I've heard the comparison of coaching between Fickell and Mattison, but you also have to factor in Everett Withers. Reeves will most likely be coached by Withers who is a DB coach by trade, and if you look at Withers' resume you'll see that everywhere he has been the secondary has been exceptional.

Damn.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:27 PM ^
Told myself I wouldn't be pissed, family wins out...now we'll kick Ohio's ass the next 4 years.
January 30th, 2012 at 12:21 AM ^
I wish Standifer was still with us, I don't know why we dropped him, his film was impressive. Reeves seems like a smallish type CB, ala the Cass Tech guys, don't we have enough of them?
Not hating, just stating. The 3 guys I wish were still on our list are Stacey because of his position, Pharaoh Brown because of his athleticism and height and Standifer because of his ability and height, oh well let's hope for a strong finish.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:53 PM ^

I don't know if we'll have that many spots. If we sign a full class this year, we only have 16 graduating next year, and this hypothetical class is 23 (With question marks, 25).
I like where your head is at. But with this 2012 class, I'm really hoping for no attrition.

damn shame

Phil, the hater is that you?
January 29th, 2012 at 9:43 PM ^
OMFG I can't stand that guy on WTKA. I think it's all an act now because he knows that what he does gets a rise out of people. He likes being talked about and that is this tool's way of being known to some degree.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:42 PM ^
Please don't. You make the fanbase look bad. Heaven forbid a recruit chooses a rival school.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
coach and administrator wasn't still around, save Tressel.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:54 PM ^
I agree that the recruiting system is flawed and that improprieties occur but I think that it's ignorant for us to levy accusations at a rival school because they beat us out for a recruit.
I don't care what's happened in the past at Ohio. I'll let Meyer forge his own history.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
fucking sucks
January 31st, 2012 at 2:21 PM ^
Check your missing pronoun there, bud. Fucking does not suck. Well, at least not when I do it.

Oh how I hate Ohio State
January 29th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
Damn all. Please don't make us buckle up for nothing Kozan/Muller
January 29th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
Anyone else think there are still improprieties going on in Columbus? This class for Urban is too good to be true.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:28 PM ^
Meyer's a good recruiter and they've mostly just been raiding Penn State's class and getting kids from the state of Ohio back in the fold. There hasn't really been anyone who has committed to OSU that's been a surprise.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:31 PM ^
Noah Spence. That was out of no where. There defense will be bad-ass.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:34 PM ^
he hadn't committed, but he was going to end up at Penn State. He's said as much.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:41 PM ^
I guess so, but it just seems a little odd that Ohio was well out of the top 25 and then Urban comes in and a month later makes Ohio the number one class without a doubt. I know he poached PSU's class, but still, it's a little curious.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:45 PM ^
easiest schools in the country to recruit to. The only reason their class was in tatters in the first place was the coaching uncertainty. Once they got a big name coach, most of the state of Ohio kids jumped back in the boat, and OSU's usually strong PA recruiting efforts got a huge boost when Penn State imploded.
Much like Hoke walked into a great recruiting situation when he showed up, Meyer did the same with OSU.
January 30th, 2012 at 2:45 AM ^
except meyer walked into a better one when sandusky kindly handed ohio state the reigns to all of pennsylvania's top recruits on top of the inside track on all ohio kids. FUCK FUCK FUCK
January 29th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
OSU has always recruited well, and the only thing that would have hurt them would have been meaningful sanctions for what happened under Tressel. When the end result was a 1-year bowl ban, that was the last hurdle before most of those Ohio kids returned.
I expect next year to be a bit more interesting, as Meyer will really have to go head-to-head against other coaches plus actually coach the current team. He's a good recruiter, but that's not an easy hurdle to overcome.
January 29th, 2012 at 10:28 PM ^
Though the bowl ban actually helps him in recruiting this coming year because, just like this year, he didn't actually have to coach during the bowl season and into the recruiting period.
January 29th, 2012 at 10:32 PM ^
It may help a bit, but I think recruits like seeing your team on TV, even in a meaningless game. That said, my bigger point is that with a single-season ban, it was basically no punishment at all. I do think that he'll come back to earth a bit next year simply because the other coaches will know how to recruit against him better - they'll hear the rumors about what he said about them and OSU, and will recruit accordingly. For all the hoopla surrounding the guy as a coach and recruiter, his last couple of Florida teams were not stocked with talent, and that was in another talent-rich state. He's not unbeatable on the recruiting trail; he's just a good recruiter with a good school to sell.
January 29th, 2012 at 10:47 PM ^
OSU is easy to recruit to because every attractive girl at OSU wants to sleep with either the football players or basketball players - the undergrad experience at OSU pretty much revolves around sports. At Michigan it's much harder to recuit bsaed on the extra curricular fun you might have.
Plus Meyer can recruit and it's a damn good program. They are our mortal enemy for a reason - because they are a good damn team.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:35 PM ^
falling to pieces = boon for Meyer.
January 29th, 2012 at 11:06 PM ^
Relax, unless you want to start wondering why Brady Hoke's first year class was so good. Both schools historically recruit well, that's all there is to it.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:27 PM ^
does this mean we hate him now? Oh well
40-34
January 29th, 2012 at 9:34 PM ^
Yes, it does mean we hate him.

January 29th, 2012 at 9:27 PM ^
Fuck. I guess Hoke used up all his magic in summer recruiting and the season. Ugh recruiting has sucked last 1-1.5 months. Hopefully we land Diamond and Grant and call it good.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:27 PM ^
That is, if the coaches want to pursue another corner. Morgan was really high on us at one time.
