OT: What Other College Fight Songs do you find Catchy?
January 25th, 2012 at 3:55 PM ^
None. The Victors makes everything else sound like crap.
EDIT: Notre Dame's fight song might be catchy if I didn't hate that school and its pathetic fanbase with such a burning passion.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:06 PM ^
Sadly, that makes it catchier. When I play NCAA12 sometimes I catch megangoblue humming The Victors and it puts a smile on my face. One time she hummed ND's song and it got a not so nice reaction (disclaimer: an all in good fun not so nice reaction).
January 25th, 2012 at 3:27 PM ^
I can't describe how much I hate it, but ND's fight song is catchy in a "I'm going to kill someone if this stays in my head" kind of way.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:35 PM ^
I can't hear the Notre Dame fight song and not think of Leslie Neilsen giving the Win One For The Zipper speech. This makes it easier for me to to hear that song.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:27 PM ^
I'm going to be objective, and while Victors is definitely my favorite, Notre Dame's is really catchy. The lyrics are pretty cool too. Unbiased
January 25th, 2012 at 4:01 PM ^
Ya as much as I hate ND, their fight song is def the second best to The Victors, of course. Rocky Top is catchy too, even though I really cant stand Tennessee.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:22 PM ^
I agree, as much as I hate to admit it.
Fight, Blue Devils, Fight! is also very good.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:27 PM ^
Notre Dame's fight song is certainly catchy/fun to sing
January 25th, 2012 at 3:28 PM ^
Georgia Tech's is great.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:10 PM ^
I hate when people say "This." and nothing else, but 100% totally and completely this.
I love their fight song, and it is the only one I like other than The Victors. Seriously, it's like a drinking song, and my friends and I actually listened to it while driving through Atlanta and later for an actual drinking song. It helps that they're all engineers too (I'm not, but I love it anyway).
If anyone hasn't heard it, go listen right now. You have to have lyrics too. Find the older version that sounds like they sang it 60 years ago. Worth it.
Sidenote: state's song sucks. I don't think they're the original lyrics, but "we're gonna win this game" and "see their team is weeeak" are terrible terrible lyrics (also the song is pretty un-relatable to anything other than football)
January 25th, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
Wisconsin's and Northwestern's are neat for me because they were used by the two high schools I went to.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:36 PM ^
unlike many in Ohio which normally have B10 fight songs had LSU's :/ never quite figured that out but I always liked it. I do like ND's also. They do have an awesome fanfare.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:05 PM ^
Purdue's, for your reason.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:38 PM ^
I was in the band, so I've played On Wisconsin hundreds of times--it is burned into my brain. Which means everytime M plays Wisconsin I have to self-flagellate everytime I unconsciously start to sing or hum along to Wisconsin's songs, which is not infrequently. I went to high school in southern California, so the Wisconsin thing is curious.
ND's is definitely catchy too. So is that ubiquitous USC riff (not that whole song, just the part they play a million times a game). I don't like either of them, but the are catchy.
January 25th, 2012 at 5:32 PM ^
My high school (in Indiana) used "The Victors" melody as its song. It's called "Fight On." I will entertain you all with its lyrics:
Fight! on for Lawrence Central.
Fight! on the battle's raging.
Fight! Lawrence Central,
for maroon and for grey.
Hey Hey Hey!
Fight! on for Lawrence Central
Fight! on we will not fail you.
Fight! Lawrence central Fight!
The victory's ours today!
Hey!
We of course thrusted our fist into the air with every "fight" we bellowed.
Lame? Cool? Your thoughts?
January 25th, 2012 at 7:53 PM ^
has this been your fight song?
January 27th, 2012 at 6:45 PM ^
I couldn't tell you. Since the early 2000s (at least) when I started going to the football games, and it is still used. I graduated from there in 2007.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:30 PM ^
It was my high school's fight song (No idea why), so whenever I hear the "real" version (Not the one they play during games), it gets stuck in my head for a while.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:32 PM ^
Most high schools steal college fight songs. My high school's archrival used The Victors and basically stole Michigan's home unis and helmet (but changed the maize to sky blue). It was always pretty weird seeing them play.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:36 PM ^
Brings back memories... A high school we often played (though they were awful and not to be considered rivals) wore Michigan's uniforms and exact helmets, but oddly played a fight song I didn't recognize.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:30 PM ^
Talking musically, is really catchy.
The Victors, of course, is the best.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:30 PM ^
Ditto what everyone said about Notre Dame's Victory March. Hate the school, but The Victors and Victory March are definitely the two catchiest fight songs in college football.
Maroon And Gold (Arizona State) and The Spirit of Troy are pretty good too. UVA uses Auld Lang Syne which is about the most bizarre thing ever.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:38 PM ^
Technically, "Auld Lang Syne" isn't the fight song. There is one, but nobody knows it. Technically also, we only use the tune and have different words.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:47 PM ^
I knew you'd show up to comment on this. I had my personal over/under set at 15 minutes lol.
No offense, but if you don't know that's coming, its about the weirdest thing you could ever experience at a football game. I went to the Western Michigan/UVA game a handful of years ago (not the year Western won), and it was the first time seeing UVA play in person, and after a touchdown everyone stood and swayed to Auld Lang Syne and then went into the whole Hoo Waa chant or whatever its called and I was like "wait, what just happened? Is this real life?"
January 25th, 2012 at 4:11 PM ^
Nuffin' wrong with being different. If we can't have the best fight song, might as well literally march to a different drum.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:30 PM ^
While I hate the team, I have always enjoyed Rocky Top. I even have an ex that is a huge Tennessee fan, loves Manning and "Uncle Phil", and owns clothing in that ugly orange color and it still hasn't ruined the fight song for me.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:33 PM ^
Both of these scream college football to me, and I would listen to them outside of CFB environments and enjoy myself. LSU's is very close to Clemson's, but I think the tigers have a better one...the orange tigers.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:34 PM ^
ND's fight song was my high school's fight song (in the state of MI). Who's dumb idea was that?
January 25th, 2012 at 3:56 PM ^
Did you attend a Catholic school? My High School used the Notre Dame song as the basis for its fight song and it is a public school. I guess it is just catchy.
January 25th, 2012 at 8:38 PM ^
I did attend a Catholic School in Hamtramck and we also used the Notre Dame song as our fight song.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:40 PM ^
Did you go to GRCHS? I did, and we had ND's fight song. :(
January 25th, 2012 at 3:35 PM ^
Although USC's fight song is probably the most annoying when played several times in a row.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:27 PM ^
No qualifications.
January 25th, 2012 at 6:04 PM ^
Agree - it's a great song. "Tribute to Troy" is awesome as well - it's up there with "Temptation" on the list of intimidating songs.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:36 PM ^
Boomer Sooner is pretty catchy and screams college football and Keith Jackson to me.
Oh, let me tell ya about Keith Jackson.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:47 PM ^
The Oklahoma band must not think Boomer Sooner is catchy, seeing as they play it every damn time Oklahoma makes a good play. Do they think we'll forget it if we don't hear it 100 times a game?
January 25th, 2012 at 3:57 PM ^
I hope it's a catchy tune cause the lyrics ain't exactly the stuff of legends.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:04 PM ^
Keith Jackson's "One man... Goodbye... Hello Heisman!"
is my second favorite fight song.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:37 PM ^
Deserves a punch in the face.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:46 PM ^
and more of a diuretic.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:55 PM ^
i couldn't pick out their fight song out of a lineup of one.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:09 PM ^
The original lyrics to the MSU fight song are perfectly emblematic of lil' bro, right down to the focus on their older brother:
On the banks of the Red Cedar,
There's a school that's known to all;
Its specialty is farming,
And those farmers play football;
Aggie teams are never beaten,
All through the game they'll fight;
Fight for the only colors:
Green and White.
Smash right through that line of blue,
Watch the points keep growing.
Aggie teams are bound to win,
They're fighting with a vim!
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Michigan is weakening,
We're going to win this game.
Fight! Fight! Rah! Team, Fight!
Victory for M.A.C.!
January 25th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
I have had a few detractors the past couple of weeks because I pointed out all of lil bro's jealousy for us. I am glad you posted this because this is one more in a line of hundreds of points where lil bro hates us and can never be us.
Wolverine Historian? Since you are the unofficial MGoHistorian, this needs to be documented and brought out when appropriate. Please store these lyrics in the MGo-Smithsonian.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:07 PM ^
You were the first person to write it.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:42 PM ^
The Victors is clear No. 1.
After that I always liked (just as songs, mind you!) Notre Dame's and "On Wisconsin." Pretty catchy.
My high school fight song was an original composition and was upbeat and catchy. Better than most college songs I hear.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:45 PM ^
On Wisconsin is in the next category. Along with anyone who uses catchy things like Boola Boola.
And it's annoying as all get out when you're an opponent, but I bet as a FSU student/fan the War Chant is just plain fun.
January 25th, 2012 at 3:59 PM ^
It must be fun. It's a great way to celebrate every 2nd-and-8, all game long.
January 25th, 2012 at 4:28 PM ^
I think the War Chant is one of my favorite things ever, immediately what I thought of when I saw this topic
January 25th, 2012 at 3:46 PM ^
USC's is pretty epic
January 25th, 2012 at 3:47 PM ^
Wisconsin is the basis of a million high school fight songs.... so catchy.
"On you Panthers, on you Panthers. Plunge right through that line!"
