I don't see Maryland being a factor, so it's more like a top 6 if the Auburn thing is true.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
I'll be damned if he goes to UVA so that's more like a top 5
November 28th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
This is going to come down to Michigan and Oklahoma.
.
Yes
November 28th, 2011 at 10:15 PM ^
I like our chances if OU can pull Green-Beckham.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:54 PM ^
I agree, but what factor would a Gunner Kiel commitment play in Diggs's recruitment? I know we have our own 5* QB coming the year after, but I am just wondering if you guys think this would have an effect.
November 28th, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
In addition to possibly landing DGB, OU already has several top WRs in Trey Metoyer, Sterling Shepard, and Durron Neal.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
From everything I've read, it really seems like it is us or Florida. Florida fans are pretty sure they are getting him but we seem to be a wild card with the Countess connection.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:39 PM ^
Isn't Jelani Jenkins also from Good Counsel still @ Florida?
November 28th, 2011 at 9:53 PM ^
Yeah Jenkins is still at Florida. He's a RS Soph right now. Diggs is closer friends with Countess though, but he hates the cold weather
November 28th, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
Cold weather ?? ahhhh C'mon man !
Get some chap stick,a winter coat, and some Timbs then your good
What if the Buffalo Bills pick you in the NFL draft ? or the Bears...Man up buttercup
November 28th, 2011 at 10:21 PM ^
These warm-weather recruits need to be exposed to a solid year in a Midwestern climate and understand how it actually makes life more interesting.
I can't imagine experiencing December without winter. That's like a person without a soul. I like playing with my dog in the snow, skating on outdoor ice rinks, and changing up my wardrobe to account for the cold.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
I'm all for December...it's January and February that get to be a drag....that being said, if I were a stud football player I'd be all about B1G Country...it readies one for Lambeau, Soldier and the rest.
November 29th, 2011 at 1:09 AM ^
Great point... I wonder if college coaches bring that up with recruits who want to stay south exactly for this reason. "Well, what happens if you get drafted by (insert northern NFL team here)? You are going to have to play in cold weather at some point regardless of where you end up in the pros. Unless you don't plan on making it to the NFL..."
November 28th, 2011 at 10:53 PM ^
I just moved to Pensacola Beach, FL. I lived in CT, Michigan, and upstate NY. I kind of get where these guys are coming from. I was fishing up to my chest in water last weekend. I have realized that being miserable for 5 months out of the year is over-rated. Although I am moving back to CT next year. Why do I punish myself?
November 29th, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
Miserable is a mindset. I think - why live in the godawful 100-degree heat and humidity of Florida or Texas in the summer and be miserable five months of the year? One week in the August heat in Virginia was enough to make me wish it was October.
November 29th, 2011 at 1:15 AM ^
never understood how cold weather really a part in recruiting. They are football players dreaming of going to the NFL. God forbid you get drafted by Denver , Green bay , Cleveland, Indianapolis, Chicago or any other team that plays in nearly arctic temps during the NFL season.
November 29th, 2011 at 8:46 AM ^
If you're making NFL money you don't have to live in those cities...
Many guys just rent home in their northern cities where there teams are, but they truly live elsewhere.
That's all sports.
Hell, I mean Doc Rivers, Boston's coach lives in Orlando, Florida.
Besides, you're on the road much of the year so how often are you REALLY in that city? Bad argument about the NFL teams.
November 29th, 2011 at 9:08 AM ^
Yeah, but living in cold weather versus playing in cold weather is different. If you're not used to playing in cold weather, it's an adjustment. I don't know how much of an adjustment, but some players can't take it.
I also don't think Doc Rivers is the best example for your argument. He coached in Orlando previous to coaching in Boston. He has three kids, who are in college now, so to uproot them and move did not make sense. As far as your point about players making offseason homes in the South, that is a very good point. I'm not sure that the players usually have ties to the South, but for various reasons, players tend to have residency down South.
November 29th, 2011 at 9:37 AM ^
Atlanta is a real hot-spot for athletes. I have an uncle with a dry cleaner (cue korean dry cleaner stereotype.... now) in buckhead and he has several customers who are pro athletes for teams in other cities, including boston, cleveland, cincy, and indianapolis. My other uncle has a cleaners on the south side near camp creek parkway (close to the airport) with several athlete customers.
November 29th, 2011 at 9:49 AM ^
Why not make the choice to be in the nice weather while you can control it though. Going to the beach in December and January an not be overstated.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:56 PM ^
Yeah but Jenkins is also three years older than Diggs. I don't know if they know each other or not.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
If Auburn is not in serious contention, that's good news.
Maryland is probably looking down the precipice into the Eternal Tire Fire as a program anyway.
I still think we have a good shot. Come to the side of good, Stefon!
November 28th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
thanks you guys for narrowing it down so quickly. Damned efficient read.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
Really. If I keep scrolling down the posts I'm guessing only Michigan will be left.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
He mentioned that it would be important for his mom to be able to be at a reasonable driving distance to get to his games too.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:39 PM ^
That seems a little weird as that would eliminate everyone except UM, MD and UVa. Hell, maybe even UM. Unless they have a much different version of driveable distance.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:42 PM ^
November 28th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
Since when 770 miles and a 13+ hour drive not far?
November 28th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
My snark trigger was too fast for my own good. My B.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
Maybe she can car pool with the Countess family.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
I'm always amazed at the number of recruits interested in Cal. They're never good at football and lately they've just been bad. Berkeley must rule
November 28th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
Berkeley has one of the best campuses I have ever been on. But that could also just be because I love northern California.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
Berkeley does rule. However, if your Stanzi-meter goes into overdrive when encountering the Ann Arbor hippies, visiting Berkeley would cause your eyes to bleed rivers of F-16 jet fuel and your blood to run like hot rivers of Old Milwaukee.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
I hate hippies.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:50 PM ^
Berkeley is pretty cool, their academics are on par with us (meaning above most everyone else) and where they fall short in program history they make up for in weather. Plus, they've pumped guys into the NFL recently with Best, Rodgers, Vereen, et al.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
Not totally sure who his lead recruiter is at Cal, but Tosh Lupoi is considered one of, if not the, best recruiters in the country.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
on campus for a visit. That'll seal the deal.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
Does anyone know if he and Wes Brown are still saying they're a package deal? And are we in much on Brown?
November 28th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
Wes Brown was supposedly about to commit to Miami before their scandal story broke. I haven't heard anything about them being a package deal since very early in the process.
November 28th, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
That's yet to be determined, though a top three finish isn't out of the question. Until then, monitor the recruiting battles for Stefon Diggs and Wes Brown. Diggs seems to be favoring Florida, Florida State and Virginia Tech, while Brown is considering Michigan, South Carolina and Colorado, among others.Don't know how accurate that is.
November 29th, 2011 at 2:10 AM ^
I'd go with "not very accurate," since two of the three schools listed didn't make Diggs' top eight.

The feeling in MD is he is a pretty heavy florida lean and has wanted to go south for college for a while but obviously he likes countess and florida struggling this year can't have hurt.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
An article on rivals has him saying his official visits right now are:
Cal - Seems very high on them, likes how they used desean jackson
USC
Auburn
Florida
Oklahoma

Webb has been all over enough recruitments in his day for me to have faith in him saying, if we have a pretty good shot at landing Diggs to listen to what he says and enjoy the ride.

I can haz one wide receiver this class?
