I'm not sure if this was supposed to be public knowledge yet, but yes, this happened, and it's extremely tragic. The young man was well liked by his section mates, who are all pretty shaken up by all of this. Please keep everyone in the MMB in your prayers.
I trust the University/the MMB/etc. will issue some kind of statement that will be better than a tweet with information coming out of East Lansing.

Make sure to let the MGoCommunity know if the family is accepting donations to charity or some other kind of good cause in the young man's name. I'm sure there are many here that would love to contribute.

Rest in piece, good sir. May we beat Minnesota for you. Have fun watching the next game with Bo Schembechler, Gerald Ford, Fritz Crisler, Fielding H. Yost, Benny Friedman, Tom Harmon, Bennie Oosterban, and all the other Michigan legends.

I'd think he would rather watch some MSU games with MSU legends.

As a parent of someone who will be in college next year, this is so sad to hear. My prayers are with the young man's family.

He wrote for the Daily as well (and was a pretty good writer) if I recall correctly.

Who did?

I think the OP means Nesbitt, but the MMB student did not write for the Daily.

What crushing news. Almost like always with the young, out of the blue. I remember those times i school, how life was about the future, whether it be our careers or simply next Saturday's ballgame. Then it happens and life is seen in a new perspective. Terribly, terribly sad news; I pray for him, his family, his friends and acquaintences. God have mercy upon his soul and provide comfort for the family and friends, amen.

I played trumpet with Patrick for his two years in the band. He was a great guy with a big personality. He'll be missed.

He really was a great kid. I didn't know him well, but he was always good for a laugh.

his family and friends and all members of the MMB. This is truly sad and sobering news. I wish I could go the game on Saturday to witness the tribute to him. I assume his place in the band will remain vacant for the rest of season as a tribute and honor to his dedication and service to the MMB.

That game is going to have a somber feel to it with Kill's health issues and this tragedy. Such things put these games into perspective.

<br>Btw, I did not realize students from UM-Flint or UM-Dearborn could be part of MMB.

It's not particularly common, but it seems like there's always one or two in the band.

I was a Dearborn student and was able to be in the MMB. You have to pay the lab fee to cover costs, but it's like auditing the course and I didn't get credit for it like Ann Arbor students did. There were four other Dearborn students who were also in the band at the same time I was.

All of my best love and prayers go to this young man and his family to ease them in their sorrow. The Blue has lost a family member, and we will all give thoughts to him this weekend when the band takes the field.

So sad, I saw on Facebook a couple of MSU MB people I know had this as their status but didn't leave an explanation. RIP and my thoughts are with your family

Both the MichiganMB family and especially the young man's family. I have two (younger) children and I can't imagine how painful it would be to lose one. Kids are not supposed to die before their parents.
