OT- Osama Bin Laden is Dead
Apparently something big is happening in the world. We have NO idea what. But I suggest you get to a television.
The only thing they have said is that it is "national security related."
EDIT: Twitter is abuzz with a rumor that we got Bin Laden. Waiting for TomVH to confirm. Also, If this is too political, feel free to delete. But I thought this might generate some interest.
EDIT II: CNN confirms: the United States has the body of Osama Bin Laden. War on Terror Muppets.
EDIT III: Thread locked to prevent the inevitable political flame war from escalating. [ZL]
But it's a big deal for the president to have a live address on a sunday night, at 10:30 no less.
And slight politics/funny: Obama's address will interrupt the Apprentice
To celebrate, the Playstation Network is holding a cease-fire for online play in the Call of Duty games.
This comment wins the internet for the week. Outstanding!
Edit: How does this comment earn the "Trolling" rating? I was merely congratulating on a great post. Just curious. This new rating system (rather than simple up- or down-voting) is silly, IMHO.
you were negged for negging the OP. It's probably a mis-click...
I was watching The Apprentice. I'm really angry that it was interrupted, since my Facebook told me the news instantly and 100x more concisely than did that Breaking News report.
Bin Laden
This was what TomVH's post was about regarding tomorrow?
that guy is connected.
rumor on twitter, is that Bin Laden has been killed and we have the body. VICTORY!!!
Huh?
Live statement from Obama at 10:50pm
Where the hell is Obama, anyway? If he was going to be late, fine, but they should have just announced that it was getting pushed back to 11:30 or midnight or whatever.
Rumor has it Obama was late because he was busy showing interns the current selection of cigars the White House has to offer.
If I were Obama I would be very, very grateful right now. Given the political climate at this point, coupled with impending campaigning for 2012 and the mess that the budget situation was, he should be extremely happy that he now has this new issue to point at.
Especially considering that it's basically a free gift; it doesn't sound like this was part of an Obama-specific initiative, so it looks like he got bin Laden on a platter without risking any political capital.
I think you hit the nail on the head.
Even though Obama had absolutely nothing to do with the killing of Osama bin Laden, other than saying, "Ok, go ahead and shoot him", he's sure to point to this in the next election.
It might be the only thing that gets him re-elected.
Obama is golden compared to what the neocons/conservatives/teaparty/repubs are putting out there in 'leadership' roles. Shoot, Trump had the best numbers of the potential candidates over the last few weeks. What a sorry state of affairs...
Obama said that when he took office he talked to the director of the CIA and told him to make killing bin Laden the cornerstone of our campaign against al Qaeda.
I see your point, but the question isn't whether Obama wanted bin Laden dead. The question is "did Obama take extraordinary measures to come to this conclusion that Clinton, McCain, Romney, ect. wouldn't?"
I tend to think no, hence my feeling that this is a gift for Obama.
It can only get more political from here and it's already pretty close to over the line if it isn't already. On mgoblog, lets just talk about how America is awesome
There was definitely not a line crossed. Saying that policies regarding bin Laden would be roughly the same under any of the major party candidates isn't saying anything about anyones values, and actually is closer to your "America is awesome" sentiment than a flame war. Everyone who had a realistic shot at being elected wanted bin Laden dead, that was the point of the whole post.
People need to be careful even saying the words "Obama" or "McCain" or any politician's name, but in a thread involving a presidential speech, a war and a terrorist, there is going to be some analysis going on. Until someone says something offensive about someone else's beliefs, I don't see any harm in it.
It is a gift and a victory for Obama, but it would be a mistake for him to claim it the greatest victory. The war on terror is not even close to being over even after killing bin laden.
for all those who are serving and who have served; and for all the patriotic Americans... @ Zone Left, Semper Fi & Defensor Fortis brother!
It's on the news. Bin Laden is dead. Wow.
CBS reporting the president's address is about Bin Laden http://bit.ly/pqy7A
USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
The only things they are saying is that it is not related to Libya and it is a national security matter of global implications.
I think OBL is a good guess.
In any event, this is extraordinarily rare that the President speaks like this... has to be something big.
Gunner Kiel?
I literally saw this episode half an hour ago. My brother said: "Isn't Bin Laden probably dead by now? He was old." He was kinda right.
wow...comedy central with the foreshadowing...I didn't even know it was on. I was about to watch celebrity apprentice on my dvr.
It was DVRed.
He wasn't that old (54), but he was believed to be in failing health for some time.
Hard to take your Flinstones when you are in fact still neighbors with the Flinstones.
Wow. That was really funny.
To my brother's credit, he did throw in Osama's failing health as well.
I was going to post that...it's perfect.
wow.
More false flag terror? Bin Laden has been dead since 2002
They got the body. It's over.
Gosh guys, let's let Obama make his own announcement...
Dayton Daily News AGAIN...
I'm surprised that the Dayton Daily News hasn't been all over this.
This is like scooping recruiting announcement.
No three hats on the podium? SEALS, Rangers, Green Berets? I'm disappointed.
Bin Laden is dead! USA! USA! USA!
AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN GET OUT!!!!!!
And it only took 10 years!
Seriously though, not to revel in death, but this is fantastic news.
