SIAP: UM-OSU predictions thread

Submitted by Swayze Howell Sheen on November 28th, 2019 at 10:32 AM

The Turkey is in the oven. Therefore, I'm bored and want to see your game predictions. When you are done, I will make a pretty graph to summarize them. I'm quite curious to see how many of you pick the Bad Guys.

Also, here are some standard ones to get you going:

- 24-12 for those '69 dreamers

- 62-39 for those who think revenge is sweet

- 2-0 for those predicting bad weather

My personal prediction:

Surprisingly not-that-close UM win. Say, 40-17. And finally, catharsis.

42-24 OSU.  OSU has averaged about 42 points in The Game since 2013.  The 62 points last year was just bringing the average back to 42 after being held to 30-31points the prior two years.

I just want Michigan to win, I don't care what the score is. Ohio St started slow against Michigan St and Wisconsin. But in both games they found an Achilles Heel and pulled away. I'm hoping Don Brown has a patch for every Achilles Heel.

I actually think we can hold them to their worst offensive day, if our offense can stay on the field. I’m not so worried about their offense honestly. I’m worried about ours. We’re peaking, yes, but their defense is phenomenal. If we can’t stay on the field, the dams will eventually break.

Difference is, in years past that Achilles heel was exposed in the weeks leading up to “The Game”. This year both the offense and defense have been playing exceptional football leading into this week and have shored up those early season weaknesses.

30-21 Good guys!

With you OP. First real road test for OSU. UM finally peaking in November. Refs and luck can't swing this one against us.

UM 45  OSU 17

Shea 250+ yards passing

Team 200+ yards rushing

3 OSU turnovers

They’re gonna get up for the game. They generally do. Dobbins also hasn’t had the work load as Taylor and I think Dobbins is far better than Taylor he’s way more explosive and they way they attack the edge he’s more likely to get big chunks. Michigan can’t stop the pass and stop the run. Their D line is too small to do that. They’re gonna struggle. Unfortunately.

He would have done so multiple times this year if he had played in the second half of games.

It's unlikely he'll break 200, because it's always unlikely; but there is a small chance he could ding 250.  It wouldn't  be the most shocking thing to happen in college football on Saturday.

He could have gotten over 250 in ANY game he carried it 40(ish) times with no fumbles. His work load until PSU has been light. The only reason the PSU OSU game was close was because OSU had a case of the whoopsies and fumbled. Michigan has had issues all year shutting down a mobile QB and they have yet to face a great running/above average passing QB and a great RB with a great set of WR's.

So predicting Michigan winning by 23 plus points is 100% normal but predicting OSU running back over 250 yards is ridiculous??? If I remember correctly Taylor from Wisconsin had over 200 yards vs Michigan.

I don't think they'll get to 63, but I do think their running game will be effective enough that they won't need to pass very often. Our DTs are ok and I still worry about Glasgow's relative lack of speed. Taking the DBs and WRs out of the equation, our front 7 vs their running game looks bad

TheDirtyD

They generally don’t get bigger, stronger and faster which is what the D line and Glasgow are going to need to do.

WR/DB I actually like Michigan the problem is Michigan is undermanned down in the trenches.

I hope I’m wrong but I’m most likely not.

then again this is the game and I remember thinking Michigan would be killed in 2013 but I was clearly wrong.

31-21 Ohio State. They’re just so good. I’m not hopeless, but I wouldn’t put the probability of a Michigan win over 40%.

There’s a path to victory of course. I do think our defense will come to play. If we win the turnover battle, especially if we win it by a couple, and make plays on special teams, we can take them.

I could see Michigan winning, even somewhat comfortably, say 31-17, if we really fluster Fields and get like a punt block or pick six, but we would need some breaks for sure.

I'm just concerned about stopping explosive plays by Justin Fields. If Michigan's defense can do that, Michigan can win. I'm hoping Fields makes a couple of big mistakes, like he has done this year. He is young, lacking experience. I'm hoping the pressure of the biggest game of his life exposes the shortcomings in his game. At the same time, I know Ryan Day/Kevin Wilson are going to try to put him in a place to use his strengths. I'm hoping Don Brown wins that chess match with Day/Wilson, and keeps Fields harassed all day.

I just really don't want to see an explosion of offense by Ohio St on their first drive.

A best case scenario, I'm hoping for a strip turnover instead. Mike Danna, and Michigan's defensive speed, might be an important factor all day.

Anyway, Go Blue!!

The interesting thing about Fields is that he’s not throwing a ton. They’re a run first team, and they really look like an old Urban Meyer team that would prefer to run as much as they can. I feel confident in saying our game plan will be to make them throw and make Fields throw from the pocket to beat us. I think we can make that happen. Question is can Fields and those receivers beat us.

That’s a good question. Dax has the speed to cover hill but can he? Their receivers I think can beat us but if fields cracks under pressure against a confident team with home field advantage, who knows. We need every down in front fan that wears Sony ear muffs to keep their asses at home and for those who go, be fully prepared to be without a voice next week.

Either another heartbreaking lose where Michigan outplays Ohio State but still loses, or an Ohio State blowout of Michigan...can’t put a score on it.  Would love to be proven wrong.

Maybe you missed the Wisconsin Game this year....or that Ohio State is a 9 point favorite in Ann Arbor...doesn’t matter that the game is at home.  Only thing going for us is that Ohio State can lose and it won’t affect their playoff hopes...So hopefully they are overlooking us and are focused on the big picture...but I doubt it.

A reminder that college football is weird and one time Nathan Peterman’s Pitt Panthers went to Clemson and won a shootout against DeShaun Watson.

So screw it, 40-37 Michigan as all the hand-wringing over the offense ends up looking like the coldest take ever.
