OT: Post Your Lions Mock Draft

Submitted by thelomasbrowns on April 25th, 2023 at 1:58 PM

Post your Lions mock draft! Here's mine:

I used PFN because PFF has started paywalling theirs.

I don't love the Bijan pick but I didn't like how the board fell in the teens. IMO Mazi would be a perfect fit--would be amazing if we could get him with our first second round pick.

I trust holmes, but I do worry about his propensity to draft players coming off of serious injuries. That's one thing I'll be hoping he stays away from this year. I'd be happy with your mock coming to fruition, although I would love if the took Penei Sewell's brother or that LB from Iowa.

After Seattle takes Carter at 5, Holmes shocks the league by grabbing Robinson. Then they get Banks at 18 and go DT/LB I round 2. TE in round three. WR in 5. Use their last pick on Moody.

I think he would play. I think he has a good head on his shoulders; he seems poised and mature for his age. I can see Ben Johnson scheming up some Wildcat or RPO for him. Can you imagine him bombing one to Jameson on a play-action pass? If the Lions choose Anthony, I wouldn't automatically be down about it.

I don't like PFN.   Whit is going 8n the first round of most mocks and Spears is a top 5 back in most people's boards and he won't last till the 5th.  Like the draft except for Hooker who wasn't even the starter two years ago.  It was Joe Mixon who won the job over him.

Here's the rub...This was just fun and I didn't take it too serious, no way it will shake out this way and I am obviously not an NFL scout. I'm still pissed I didn't take a WR in the top 81 and waited on Moody, but no draft is the same and exercise was based on hypotheticals.

As for Hooker, I like his ceiling. I would take that gamble based on his scouting report but again I know nothing except for what I read and was curious what I could do based on that. I typically use the NFL Mock draft database to get a sense of where players might go and their value and Hooker is the 5th QB off the board and there was a huge chasm to #6 QB. His play reminds me of Jalen Hurts.

Sorry bud but that draft is unrealistic but not your fault as the prospect rankings for PFN are off compared to others.    Anderson will be gone and drafting 2 RBs is not a move the Lions will make.  You took Charlie Jones over Ronnie Bell. Jones isn't bad but he had one year of production.  First 4 picks are good but I don't see Will or Bijan making it that far.  Benton to 81 seems off also.  I do a ton of mock draft simulators and you have to look at who ranks these players. Some are just some random guy with a blog and others are some area beat writer who doesnt know much beyond his own team.

But then again if this is a dream scenario I like it because the RBs are great.  We get Anderson and Smith along with KSU guy who is projected in the first round by many or early second.  Wooden with the 6th Rd pick seems like good value from a pretty productive player

Some analyst had Skoronski the number 1 OL in the draft, so I felt good about picking him at 18. Forbes was good value at 29, as was Bresee at 40, did someone know something I didn't, lol? Actually Hyatt, Uzomah, and Zach were all value picks for where I got them. Gervon was BPA, while Keaton, just about all my mocks have Keaton in it; if you haven't seen his highlights, check him out. Got my backup QB, a Safety, and of course, Jake!

SQ, this is not a weak draft! I think the only position that is weak is WR. It's missing 'elite' talent, but there are a lot of multi-year starters in rounds 2-4. In Brad we trust. I agree, 6 to 29 is a massive drop, but I'm not in the War Room making this decision either. The players 29, 40, and 71 turned out to be Forbes, Bresee, and Charbonnet. Bresee is an unknown quantity but Emmanuel Forbes is highly regarded and Zach is a good back. We had him here at Michigan, you know he's good. As for the Tackle question, this is what Tim Twentyman had to say on the subject,

"Vaitai and Glasgow signed one-year deals and Jackson is headed into the final season of his rookie contract. Atlanta's Chris Lindstrom, one of the top guards in the NFL, just signed a five-year $105 million contract this offseason, which Jackson and his representatives certainly took notice of. There are some really good interior offensive linemen in this class. Detroit's pick at No. 18 or either of their three picks on Day 2 could make sense to add a versatile and talented interior lineman to the mix."

Of course, I'm just some guy clicking the mock draft button over and over who can't wait until Thursday...

True they have 2 high quality OT, but that is the rub right there.  Decker will be entering his final year of his contact and will want to get paid.  While Decker is really good, Sewell is special.  So the Lions will most likely draft a OT this year.  Most Lions POD talk is about Wright as he can compete for G this year with Glasglow and move to OT to replace Decker IF they can not work out a contract.

This is new territory for Lions fans.  The roster is actually pretty stable, but there are several key players that will have their contracts coming up over the next couple of years and they will not be able to pay them all.  So drafting potential replacements allows Holmes the flexibility during contract talks.

So, expect the Lions to use a couple of their picks on OT an OG.  In addition, when they take a WR, is it NOT because of JMo situation.  It is because, again they only have JMo and Amon signed after next year (sorry Kennedy does not count) so they need a WR.  Same goes for RB room, Swift is on the way out (last year of his contract and VERY unlikely to resign) and Montgomery is only a bridge gap contract.  So it is not out of the question the Lions might look at Bijan at 18 (I think he will be gone by then) or particularly Gibbs if they can slid back some. If they pass on them, then look for Spears of Zach with pick 55...

I traded a bit and put a premium on high RAS scores. Need athletes on defense so this is a defense heavy draft.

48. DJ Turner (CB)

55. Jack Campbell (LB)

60. Julius Brents (CB)

81. Gervon Dexter (DT)

152. Isaiah McGuire (EDGE)

159. Colby Wooden (DT)

Mine:

6.. Will Anderson. Anderson and Hutch would be a terror.

26.(trade down). O’Cyrus Torrance, OG Florida. Lions reportedly love him.

48. Bryan Breese, DT Clemson. Major need at DT. Breese has good pass rush ability

55. DJ Turner, CB. Michigan. Need k say more?

81. Sam Laporta. TE. Fantastic receiving TE from TE U.

90. Eli Ricks CB. Bama. In hindsight I’d probably look to go WR here. But can never have enough CB.

152. Keaton Mitchell, RB. ECU. Speed to burn. Replacement for Swift.

Regret not addressing QB or WR position. Holmes will probably do that. But overall I like this draft.

Anderson, Wilson & Carter were all off the board in this scenario, so I traded with the eagles for the 10th & 30th picks, then traded back again w/ NE for picks 14 & 46 giving me 5 picks in the top 55.

This is why I am excited about this years draft.  Holmes has done a great job that he can be very flexible pending on how the draft plays out....

4 QBs taken in the first 5 picks....Fine I'll just have to take the best DE (Anderson) and pair him up with Hutch for the next 10 years...

Wilson, Carter, and Anderson all gone.  That means a QB (Stroud, Richardson?) are sitting right there to trade out or worst case take the top rated CB in the draft...

At 18, they don't really NEED someone there so they are in prime position to trade down and get more draft capital (my guess will be Holmes will emphasize picks next year), and yeah...

5 picks in the Top 81, excellent position to move up or down in the draft to make sure they get the player THEY want.  Not someone they hope to fall to them and then they have to come out in the press conference and feed everyone BS that player X was on the top of their board all along...
