I've always found their obsession with making sure everyone knows it's THE OSU odd to say the least.

We are The University of Michigan and MSU is simply MSU without an article preceding it. I could understand the state University in a state where both of the large public schools are competing for students, brand loyalty, etc to fight for the THE to be used in their name.

Take MSU for example. I could see those inferior clowns wanting to be called The Michigan State University to sort of pretend they are THE premier University of our state. But Ohio University is a MAC school and I don't think anyone mixes them up with OSU. So why would OSU fight so hard for this over the past several years? So pathetic and trivial.

The vibe at work today from buckeye fans (I live in ohio) is they’re embarrassed by this but ultimately, in true buckeye fashion defend it. They claim it’s only to gain control over merchandise sales lol. I’m not well liked today when I pointed out that coors brewing company should come after their ass for the “silver bullets” label they’ve adopted.

I witnessed a gross violation of "THE" at my daughter's graduation in May.  The chair of Rosalind Franklin University's medical school announced that students were graduating from that "THE Chicago School of Medicine".

You gotta put a lid on that stuff.

Nobody outside Buckeye nation calls them THE Ohio State University.  It’s a title they gave themselves.

No need to trademark.  The Bobcats already seem to have no issue with your marching band spelling out the name of their school and your stadium being named after them.

As an OSU alum and fan, I can honestly say this is absurd, and makes them look ridiculous. This certainly won’t help with the hatred of all things OSU around the country. Uh oh, I used the word “THE.”

Pronunciation in proper English is supposed to be based upon the following consonant or vowel sound...

"Thuh" football

"Thee" Ohio

"Thuh" Michigan Team

"Thee" A$$

Let me know if you need to AXE me another question. Thanks,

We know we are hated and arrogant and pompous .We Embrace the hate. We also embrace the greatest rivalry in all of sports .I for one respect the Michigan program , that's why THE game means so much. For those of us that lived through The John Cooper years we understand it can turn on a dime.

It’s super cool to hear that you have decided to waste your time on your rivals sports blog. Some would say that only a loser would devote themselves to such an endeavor (endeavor means a type of journey or task). I really respect your diligence. Carry on. By doing this we will probably come to our senses and become OSU fans. You are super cool. Can we be friends?

Just want to point out from a patent lawyers viewpoint. They are not trying to trademark the word 'the' as the headlines suggest. They are trying to trademark the entire phrase "the Ohio State University". Completely different things. Even if it doesn't go through, they may try to trademark it with a stylized font or something, which would be more likely to be approved.

Don't forget, they also tried to trademark 'OSU' a few years back. But Oklahoma State took offense and they settled into some kind of agreement where both schools were part of the trademark. Apparently Oregon State University did not care, or were oblivious (likely did not care, b/c Oregon State a few years ago tried to drop the OSU tag and just be OS because they kept getting confused with the other OSUs)

I live in Ohio.  Whenever a conversation comes up about every fan base hating OSU, they seem to be completely surprised and deny that they are one of if not the most hated fan base.  Thank you OSU for proving this point with these shenanigans.
