Perkis-Size Me

My god its almost insulting to your intelligence. Do they really think that two people who aren't horny enough already won't just sit there and say "to hell with it we're doing this on the floor?"

Look, at the end of the day its their country, not ours. What they say goes, and any American heading over there would be wise to remember that. You are their guest, and guests can be told to leave. But it doesn't mean this isn't an insanely stupid "safeguard."

Not true.  Been debunked.

Why do people not fact-check/verify things before they get bent out of shape?

It's so disheartening that people are quick to believe something if it fits their narrative/beliefs...and to disbelieve things that don't fit these preconceived notions.

Unbelievable...in fact, so unbelievable, that it's not true.

It has been passed around the Twitter-verse a lot these past couple of days; at least the version you posted doesn't also have the part about the (alleged) sex worries being used to prevent COVID.

"The bed frames in the Athletes Village at this year’s Olympics will be made of cardboard. Sturdy cardboard.

“Those beds can stand up to 200 kilograms,” explained Takashi Kitajima, the general manager of the Athletes Village, speaking through an interpreter.

That’s about 440 pounds, and surely no Olympic athlete weighs that much.

“They are stronger than wooden beds,” Kitajima added.

The single bed frames will be recycled into paper products after the games. The mattress components — the mattresses are not made of cardboard — will be recycled into plastic products."

Likely close, but not quite that heavy.

At least in 2016, the heaviest athletes weighed in at 170 kg (a weightlifter and a judo... fighter? practitioner? martial artist?)

https://www.topendsports.com/events/summer/science/anthropometry-2016.h…

The heaviest athletes were 170 kg (375lbs) - Daniel Natea (judo) and Behdad Salimikordasiabi (weightlifting).

We already have 4 US athletes who are out - Bradley Beal (men's bball), Coco Gauff (tennis), Katie Lou Samuelson (women's 3x3 bball which I did not realize was a thing in the olympics), and Kara Eaker (women's gymnastics alternate*).

*Apparently, alternates go to the Olympics on their own dime, don't stay in the Olympic Village, and must be designated as active before their sport/events begin. Once their sport begins, they cannot be declared active, even in the case of one of the "regular" athletes being injured or getting sick, even if that athlete has not yet competed in an event.

Curious what others think, but I really don't consider Bradley Beal and Coco Gauff to be "Olympic Athletes". To me the Olympics are time to pay homage to all the tremendous athletes that we essentially ignore for 3 years and 11 months (track and field, swimming, gymnastics, etc.). When the significance of winning an Olympic medal is so less important than your sport's pinnacle then I have a hard time caring.

You are hitting one of my pet peeves. When the Olympics is a secondary event for a sport, that sport should not be in the Olympics.

Privately ask Coco (or any other WTA or ATP player) if she'd rather win Wimbledon or an Olympic gold. It's going to be Wimbledon, which happens 4x for every one Olympics. Ask her if she'd rather win the US Open or the gold. Again, it will be the US Open. Add in Roland Garros and the Aussie Open and there are 16 tournaments every 4 years more important than the Olympics. The Olympics is (at best) the 17th most important tournament every 4 years. That cheapens the Olympics.

I dunno man, I think you're getting too bent out of shape if you're mad that the Olympics has basketball or hockey or tennis or golf, which have annual pro championships that are a bigger deal than the Olympics. I acknowledge that calling it a pet peeve may be slightly tongue-in-cheek.

There is something special about the Olympics, and getting a medal, competing with your country's colors and flag on your back instead of a list of your sponsors. Especially in individual sports, the Olympics are the only time you play for country instead of just yourself. Generally, since I know golf has the Ryder Cup and similar team events. It's a prestige that can't be matched.

Especially when the Olympics are at home for an athlete, they can be a big deal. I think Andy Murray probably counts his Gold in London above the other majors he's played in and won, and I'm assuming Naomi Osaka is pretty excited about playing for Japan in Tokyo.

I don't disagree, but the point is that even the US has 4 athletes testing positive, with others at least in quarantine who have had close contact.

Per the WSJ yesterday, 55 people connected to the Olympics (athletes, staffers, coaches, delegates, etc.) have tested positive, many more are in quarantine, and you can expect many more positives in the days/weeks to come.

Hopefully, it's fairly limited, but this could be a highly compromised Games.

Literally the first thing I saw on the news this morning, 6+ hours before you posted, was this rumor being debunked. I mean seriously, by logic how much weight would they make them capable of until they break? The heaviest weight lifters probably outweigh 3-4 gymnasts by themselves. Logic alone should have screamed, "Don't post this!"

Despite the report being wrong, it reminds me of bundling.

Bundling, an early American custom, arose when one’s beloved might live half a day’s ride away, and few had guest rooms. So the amorous suitor would sleep, feeling clothes, in the same bed as his honey, with a board between them. Obviously either could climb over the board but it was a splintery reminder to inhibit most—if not all—amatory exploration.

Also, others in the family might be sleeping—or watching—in beds in the same room.

Carry on? No. Let’s at least learn a lesson here.

Twitter got you because you were stupid enough to use Twitter. Fortunately it’s a voluntary form of stupid so it’s much easier to cure than genetic stupid.

Stop using Twitter. That’s the cure. It’s that simple. Just, stop. It’s trash shit poison. It makes you stupid. FFS its very format caters to people so stupid that they can neither form nor digest information more complex than a sound bite. Hang around that long enough and you lose that ability, as well.  And here we are.

Quit it cold turkey and your intelligence will almost immediately begin to recover. Good luck; we all look forward to your complete recovery.
