Nik Stauskus blasts MBB team

Good. More alumni need to join the cause. The program is a complete joke

I get the current frustration. But "Years?" 22 months ago, we were finishing up our sixth straight Sweet Sixteen (maybe seventh if not for COVID).
I don't know when Nik last visited campus, but maybe he can help start a robust NIL program. It's obvious that getting transfers aren't the way to go, unless we want a team full of sub-6 foot Ivy League transfers. This team would have a totally different look IMO if Caleb Love and Terrance Shannon are on the roster.

The couple of wins in the tourney were nice, but let's not pretend that wasn't also an underachieving season overall. Barely scraped by just to reach the tourney and honestly some of the things lacking now were already present then.

What makes you think anything would be different with those 2? Juwan missed the tournament with 2 first round picks and an All American center. The year before he barely snuck in as one of the last teams in after landing the highest ranked freshman class since the Fab Five. Juwan is the problem and no amount of talent will fix that.
January 24th, 2024 at 1:01 PM ^
Yes, thank you. This whole "if only we had Shannon/Love" is so hollow to me.
I mean, Shannon (when allowed to play, thanks to a TRO) and Love are more talented than anyone else on our team. But we saw the last couple years we are not getting the best out of our talent.
We're not this year either, but this team is not good enough even with a good coach.

IMO, a team built on upperclassmen is better than a team built on freshmen or sophomores. Look at all our 1 and done or 2 and done guys. I think if you combine all those guys NBA stats, you might cobble together 10PPG between those four.
I'm not saying Juwan should be the one fixing this ship he's captained. But I still believe this would be a better team record-wise with a 6'4" senior guard with almost 100 starts and 6'6" senior guard with another 75+ starts.

I don’t usually like this stuff but 1000% accurate and good he said it.
They are dogshit lazy. No discipline at all. Is that a coach or player problem? Both.
for three full years even the announcers during games have commented about their “lazy, low effort defense”.
that’s why this is such an easy. This is abo it effort as much as anything. Team should have won at least 4 more games and looked much better in the losses.

He’s not wrong about most of them and how the program is being run right now. Some of these kids have heart and obviously Howard knows and loves that M and Michigan but something isn’t translating. Also sometimes it is just talent, I loved playing bball and played with pride and passion for my school team but I was just an average player and we lost a lot, I would have not liked someone calling out my heart instead of my results, that I can handle. Wish he went about it a different way, but hopefully coach can shut all the doors and just go to work to turn it around, we saw it happen at schembechler.

Another Michigan man coach claimed, "This is Michigan for God's sake!".
The product on and off the court hasn't looked like it the last two seasons.
Love Juwan but next year has to be look a whole lot better.
January 24th, 2024 at 1:37 PM ^
But why should there be a next year, like what tangible evidence is there to believe it will be better? There is nothing to hang your hat on right now exactly like the last year with Hoke.
January 24th, 2024 at 2:19 PM ^
Because we aren't Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. Anyway, that is a conversation between Warde and Juwan at year's end - not to be decided on MGoBlog, where many would have fired Beilein and Harbaugh before their successful runs.
Losing Hunter and not keeping Caleb Love hasn't helped and I'm not sure how much Juwan was at "fault" there.

Those guys had a track record even before getting to UM that gave them more credibility that they could improve things. Not remotely the same as a first time coach with no proven track record.

How does he know the current players state of mind? Sometimes teams just suck Nik. It’s not that complicated. My opinion is he busted in the NBA because he had no respect and didn’t understand what it means to put on an NBA jersey.

I don't know what's in these kid's hearts so I am in no position to question that aspect of their game. But as far as the results they are putting on the court, they deserve to be called out. This team has taken a nose dive off the ugly tree and has hit every single last branch coming down.
They're a really, really bad team. Let's call them what they are. Doesn't definitively mean they're not trying, they're not good kids, they're not doing what the coaches tell them to do, etc., but they're not making the tournament, and frankly they're probably not good enough for the NIT or CBI, either.

He ain't lyin!

Everyone and everything is broken with this program and a new coach needs to be brought in to reset it all. Fortunately, this can be done quicker now in this age.
Howard has absolutely 100% destroyed the program, and he’s not the one who should be allowed to build it back. Every day he still has a job is a further indictment on Warde.

Where’s is our D coord Sadi ? Dude was taught by Luke and doesn’t use a single thing .
January 24th, 2024 at 2:00 PM ^
I’ve noticed this for the last three years, which is the worst three he’s had. Other than Hunter with his antics, nobody shows emotion on the court except for Dug. I’ve made comments back to the seasons with Caleb, Moussa and Jett that they looked like they were on medicine or something. The bench mob died after the Beilein guys left too. The last animated team we had was with Chaundee, Franz and those guys. Those guys were mixed with Beilein guys though. If you look back on the last three years and watch the games, it’s apparent there is hardly any emotion on the court. It has to be a team culture thing. I’m not saying they don’t care or don’t represent the block M the way they should, I’m saying they look lethargic on the court and have for a few years now. Hell, look at the coaches, they look bored to death during the games.
January 24th, 2024 at 3:33 PM ^
Twill grabbed his crotch running down the court staring at the OSU bench last week after making a 3. Does that count?
January 24th, 2024 at 4:05 PM ^
Same antics as Hunter. Other than that they all look lethargic. At least that’s some form of energy I guess

Not one comment about Nik's girlfriend? It used to take three comments before She was brought up. I'm very disappointed in all of you

Things are getting spicy.

It's not a pride issue. It's a talent issue.
January 24th, 2024 at 3:19 PM ^
In the past two years, it was a pride/strategy/preparation issue (they had talent) - this year is a pride/strategy/preparation/talent issue. Regardless, still should be better than our record but the talent is dwindling.
January 24th, 2024 at 4:19 PM ^
It's not just about talent. Perfect example is Burnett and Nkamhoua being plus defenders before getting here and suddenly at UM they look just as lost at that end as everyone else frequently. The depth isn't great but this starting five is not talentless by any stretch if everyone was being maximized. There are going to be NCAA tourney seeds in the 10 plus range with no more talent than this team on paper and this team isn't even going to make the NIT.
January 25th, 2024 at 11:22 PM ^
Sorry but to me they aren't talented at all. I dont care what Burnett's star rating was in high school, look at his career. Same goes with Nkamhoua. These are guys that are role players on other teams but are now counted on to score in double digits. They've never shown in their careers that they're capable of consistently scoring in double figures and playing big minutes. For Juwan to put together this roster and expect to compete in the Big10 is ridiculous.
January 24th, 2024 at 3:20 PM ^
I love Nik, but these types of takes (and many/most in this thread), I strongly dislike.
Is the team missing player leadership? I think so. They don't have 'that guy' to pull the team together. The (very few) players mentioned in this thread, like Novak, Nik, X/Z, are pretty rare.
Do 'quiet' (i.e. the majority of) players not love UM? Or have no passion? That's a terrible take, IMO.
January 24th, 2024 at 10:07 PM ^
Brady Hoke loves Michigan but he no longer coaches here. So Juwan loves Michigan…… well you get what I’m saying.

I don't think any fan in their right mind thought Howard was going to be a better coach than Belein. But I think alot of us me included thought Juwan could get more elite recruits than Belein which would've somewhat masked his coaching inexperience. But he's not bringing in great classes and frankly this roster he put together outside of Mcdaniel is a joke. Does anyone honestly think he's capable of turning things around and winning like Belein did? I don't see us making the tourney again with him as our coach, I like Juwan but its just not working.
