NFL Draft: Viewing Options in Ann Arbor?

Submitted by ashman444 on April 23rd, 2024 at 4:57 PM

My son & I are driving to Detroit for the draft on Friday-Saturday and will be staying in Ann Arbor on the way Thursday night. Is anyone aware of any NFL Draft watch parties or events in town for the first round on Thursday night? We can just grab food & watch at the hotel, but would be grateful for other recommendations!

I live about a mile away so I am in there once a week. For the most part, from the interior to the menu, you wouldn't notice much difference from the old Banfields. The clientele is the most interesting and fantastic mix of "Polo Fields guy who just got off the golf course" and "guy who worked on a road crew all day." :-)

"The Sports Bar Westside" technically. The owner doesn't care as long as you don't call it Banfields! It's a great UM/Detroit sports bar. Food is good and a burger is $12. That's cheap for Ann Arbor. It should be packed Thursday night. I think I'm doing Westside on Thursday and then the D on Friday.

Wonder how many MSU fans will tune in to watch a record number of big brothers get drafted.

This was actually posted on a MSU board regarding JJ:

"What I'm wondering is if the sign stealing / cheating is as bad as we all think, why is JJ projected to be drafted possibly top 5 overall? Wouldn't GM's and scouts have some worries how he'll perform when he doesn't know exactly what the defense is running? I really can't figure this out because the scouts have to know all of the details."

Regents Field on Main Street has a number of tv’s - and, if you asked to have the draft shown. - I’m sure they’d accommodate you on one of their monitors.

Yeah, I'm not really sure I get the value of seeing the draft on TV.  It's good information and interesting to follow live, but I feel like simply seeing what happens on social media (and/or the inevitable MgoBoard live thread) will be sufficient in terms of knowing what happens in close to real time.

I imagine that attending the draft in person could be a fun experience, but I've always thought that watching it on the TeeVee machine was like watching paint dry...or golf.

I plan to go to the draft...  Barry Sanders and Aidan Hutchinson are signing autographs on Friday (Donovan People-Jones on Thursday night).  I'll try to get mini helmets signed, but wanted Hutch to sign a football...  but it says footballs are banned ????  wtf ?

You may be able to get away with bringing a football if you have it fully deflated (like pancake flat). They let us bring one into NRG in Houston in January, but we had to deflate it at the security checkpoint. They just don't want stuff that can be thrown around. And of course, they sold fully inflated footballs inside that stadium too, so that rule was pretty pointless.

The students have finals right now (source: I am a student) so South U will probably be relatively dead compared to your usual Thursday night
