Mike Morris B1G Defensive Lineman of the Year
November 29th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Next man up! We lose Hutchinson and Ojabo and still have the defensive lineman of the year? And he misses THE Game and our pass defense hardly misses a beat? These line coaches have been flat out amazing.

Line coaching = ELITE

Larry Johnson is Overrated.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
Not true, he was one heck of a basketball player. Now the transition to college coaching has been a bit rough.

Grand mama and converse react juice all stars.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
I mean I think he was missed against Ohio State. Michigan didn't have much pass rush at all until the very end of the game. The secondary did an outstanding job of covering guys so it ended up not mattering.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:54 PM ^
Most over looked breakdown of the game was how our secondary held up even with little to no pressure on a high percentage of OSU throws. Was blown away with that. Mazi was probably our most consistent guy to constrict the pocket.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
not a surprise to me at all. i was a little worried about our safeties, but our cover corners (incl mike s) are about the best we've ever had as a group. plus, will j coming off the bench. the safeties were a bit shaky in the first half but were outstanding in the second half.
that said, a little more pass rush would help.

Hopefully UFR will tell us, but was this part of the game plan? Play the run first, play the scramble in case they've turned on scrambles for Stroud?
Not nearly as much as for Maryland or PSU, but maybe a bit. So many of Strouds throws were off, I wonder if scouting indicates that "real pressure" isn't as needed, compared to "good coverage make him hold the ball and freak out even at the slightest pressure".
I think there was one play where there was zero pressure, but good coverage, and the timer went off - he dumped it off on the right to a TE or something who got tackled for a loss of yardage. I understand QBs are trained to not hold onto the ball forever, but that was weird to me in an age where you see Bryce Young and Caleb Williams having grown up watching Aaron Rodgers holding the ball forever.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
i think you're right about stroud. i think his draft stock took a hit. i doubt he's a top 5, or possibly top 10, pick anymore.
November 29th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
He isn't top 5 today but by the time the combine is done he will be. He is going to look great out there in shorts throwing to guys running wide open routes. He'll have the measurables etc. It only takes 1 team to move up for him to be a top 5 maybe even top 3 guy. I wouldn't be too surprised to see that happen by the time the draft rolls around.
November 29th, 2022 at 6:02 PM ^
And he will then flame out like every other OSU QB in history in the NFL.
November 29th, 2022 at 5:37 PM ^
I did think MacGregor had an excellent game though. A couple defected passes were huge.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
Congrats to Big Mike!!! The pita man is a beast. C'mon, c'mon c'mon.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:07 PM ^
Pass rush was kinda pitiful against OSU, so it did hurt to miss him.
All the more reason to credit the guys responsible for coaching the secondary and coaching the defense.
Remarkable all around.

So happy for Mike! Serious question: was his best competition on our team? (Mazi Smith)
November 29th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
Woot! Congrats, big fella. Be good to get him back on the field.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
and that while only playing 10 games of the regular season.
well deserved honor.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
Well deserved Mike! Get better fast so you can grab that second B10 ring and fight for a national title!
November 29th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
This is awesome! Very happy for him. He earned it!
November 29th, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Congrats Mike!!! Looking forward to seeing you back on the field against Purdon't and the playoff victims!
November 29th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
Congrats. Really had a great season.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
Great year Mike! Keep it rolling!
November 29th, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
Please be back for the playoffs!
November 29th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
Wow. Didn’t expect to see that. Good for him.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
Mike Morris did get in on 11 snaps, which is odd. Does anyone know the circumstances? Did he re-injure his ankle or was it similar to the Corum situation where he just wasn't fully healed and was less than 50%?
I really hope this is something that can heal before the playoffs.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
i did see him a bit early on. not so much late.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:56 PM ^
Not going to lie - was a bit surprised by this but he's had a really solid, wide-ranging season and deserves to be recognized.
November 29th, 2022 at 2:07 PM ^
He has good numbers but I didn't think "best in the BIG" numbers. Down year for the conference? Great to see him get it! Gotta have him for the Playoffs.
November 29th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
Down year for those big pass rush numbers but defensive line play is infinitely more than that. I mean a press is as good as a sack most times and as we say with young Mr Benny and Mr. Upshaw sometimes you get better results.
November 29th, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
wow. what an unexpected surprise for a surprisingly great year. congrats to him. now, come back for another year. lol.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
Awesome!! Congratulations!
November 29th, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
Congratulations!
Unfortunately, we'll never be able to beat tOSU with him on the sidelines. . . . oh, wait . . . what's that you say, Reality?
Go Blue!
November 29th, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
Man, if you're a DL or OL, how in the world are you not wanting to come play for these coaches? The development (position coaches and S&C) turns 3 stars into conference DL of the year after losing 2 first-round picks from the year before, plus you're playing an NFL level scheme. If you want to win and be as prepared as possible for the NFL there is absolutely no better team to play for.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
i figured Mazi would get it but either way, well deserved and congrats Mike!
November 29th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
I would submit Kris Jenkins to round out the top 3 for consideration.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
Congrats on a great regular season. Appreciate all the hard work you put in. Please pass the torch to Braiden McGregor on your way to the NFL.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
Congrats, well deserved. I hope this will take some of the sting off of not being able to chase Stroud into the dirt for a full game.
November 29th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
Wasn’t expecting that but wow. Congratulations!
November 29th, 2022 at 1:54 PM ^
Michigan to the rest of the B1G: "We want all your awards!"
November 29th, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
Awesome congrats big Mike.
November 29th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
Little known fact, did any realize Morris has a sister who is a GA for the football team?
In all seriousness, congratulations to the Morris family.

I'm very glad Santa Ono is in place. Why? Because of the confusion I expect to occur - and, in fact - HAS been taking place to those who notice details.
What do I mean? Well, Michigan has been recognized and referred to - globally - in a variety of ways. These references include: The University of Michigan, UMich, Michigan, The University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, etc.
The changes occurring - DLU (yes, Defensive Line University). OLU.. (Offensive Line University). TEU (Tight End University). RBU (Running Back University). And, don't forget - NFL U (Yes, the athletic program is developing players who will need to go to work on Sundays.)
Academic excellence as always been standard at Michigan. The AAU (American Association of Universities) may be contacting Santa Ono to "clear up" these other acronyms that seem to be associated with our beloved institution. Hopefully, Santa Ono can clear up any confusion that arises.
Go Blue...

Mason Graham set to continue the tradition next year, calling it now.
