It "works" okay for full time job market, and in most two sided markets. All of those things you say are still true too, though. Its crazy, its messy, its the free market.
That itself explains it right? Receiving capability is valued higher on TEs, probably by a lot. I imagine if Barner's still available later (6 or 7) Chargers will take him.
Ya just saw this, was pretty funny. They've now picked Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, Alabama players. Wonder if that "big name school, high familiarity" trend will continue (yes, Michigan didn't play ND, and barely played against McConkey, but thats pretty close.)
Why not take it further? Why even have conferences, just everyone play everyone and do a 1-16 playoff? Extra not confusing.
Not that I'd prefer it that way, but the actual cutoff point (between no alignment at all, lots of sub-divisions) could be arbitrarily anywhere in the middle.
I'm sure it's been covered in other comments about creating rivalries, travel, TV deals, etc. While some of those issues aren't as big as they used to be, even today rivalries could still beneift from divisonal alignments.
They might have lost it already before the 3rd goal. There were 3 defenders in the crease and Duke made them all look lazy, an awful play by their defense there.
Ending score was great, but that game was way closer than "killed them". After that absolutely awful PK leading to MSU tying the game, I was freaked out.
Current state of QB needy teams may not be the best place to realize that potential - unless the Vikings are willing to trade all the way up to top 3, and one of those teams is willing to trade all the way down (best opportunity: Drake May "slides" to 3, and Pats trade down to the Vikes)
Part of any "Penix will be a better pro" argument likely includes the fact he'll end up at a better team spot, and while quite unfair to the QBs there's no practical other way to compare.
What he needs to improve: We just talked about how good Stroud is when kept clean in the pocket (71.7% completion rate, 35 touchdowns, 93.4 PFF grade). Well, he is basically the polar opposite under pressure (41.3% completion rate, six touchdowns, 42.0 PFF grade).
Our 2023 defense was also better than our 2022 and 2021 defenses, maybe by a lot. Best comparison is probably that Stroud had a great day against the Georgia 2022 defense, a bit of an outlier by him though (at least based on his college history).
In an equally "people are wrong all the time" sense, I will guess Penix will be the 3rd best QB in the draft over the first 3 years (behind JJ and one of the others)
We said this same exact thing (accuracy drops dramatically when moved off his spot) about CJ Stroud, and it turns out we were wrong, he's been an excellent NFL QB so far.
This (event, watched another video of the replay) makes it pretty clear that it was clearcut that there was 1 second left when the ball hit the ground. My recollection was that it was closer than that, but it seems pretty obvious.
Good comp. I think I remember someone saying about Montgomery that a RB that has above average attributes in all facets should be considered a really valuable piece.
Before the 2023 draft, I was hoping the Lion's would get a chance to draft JJ this year (2024).
But since they took Hendon Hooker there's probably 0% chance of that happening, sadly. But also with the Lion's more advanced timeline, drafting JJ (a developmental QB) in the 1st (or even the 2nd) doesn't make a lot of sense.
One or two isn't enough to make a proper judgement, this is from the article
On throws of 10 or more air yards and outside the numbers over his career, comparing his throws to the right and left are pretty drastic: McCarthy’s completion percentage drops from 56.2% to 42.6%, his quarterback efficiency goes from a eye-watering 205.4 to 144.2, his dropback success rate from a crisp 56.2% to a pedestrian 42.6%, and his first downs per attempt from 53.4% to 39.7%.
~15% drop in percentage rates. I can't say I've done enough film review of all of JJ's throws to say whether it's correctl. Maybe another ambitious mgoblogger-can write a diary about it.
The main reason he'll bust is because he'll be going to a team with no o-line to protect him. Good o-lines elevate any QB an entire tier.
If by some miracle he ends up on a team with a good o-line (Bears take him and majorly upgrade their o-line, for example), I think he'll be fine-to-great.
Technically, I'd bet most would say 1 or 2 of them would be good starts within 2 years. But there's no individual "lock" for that, so it'll be based around many of them having a good chance at it.
That makes sense then. The OnLocation ones were included as part of the original ticket purchase, so there wasn't any additional place to make a choice regarding what gets printed on the ticket.
Any recommendations on dirt cheap (read: using stuff lying around the house) on how to protect it? More concerned about protection than a fancy display.
I still secretly hold hope that ESPN has a 4k skycam video of the game they've buried somewhere for some obscure random reason.
If anyone from ESPN is reading this, I would pay you $10 for a copy of that recording. And I bet there's at least another 10,000 Michigan fans that would also pay for it.
I don't think empty netters can be considered running up the score in hockey. If the other team pulled their goalie, they're trying to win, and however remote they think they can win. Scoring the empty netter is part of the competition.

Great first line from Yahoo sports about the pick
"At least the Chicago Bears had plenty of film on Iowa punter Tory Taylor."
Mike Macdonald not waiting to give Harbaugh another shot :)

Twas awesome. This is not the edited one with the teleport animation, if anyone finds that post here too.
There's an Mgoblog mom's chatroom? I knew there was a huge fan base but didn't know it was big enough to spawn sub societies.
(Or that's a typo for mods chatroom, but you never know)
I will consider offers from the recliner, and the bed as well.

According to PFF https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2023-nfl-draft-profile-c-j-stroud-ohio-state
And stats from before the National Championship game (comparing JJ and Penix): https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-football/news/michael-penix-jr-vs-jj-mccarthy-stats-how-washington-michigan-quarterbacks-compare/b81a9c6bf423dc9195df2102
Also says Penix is 66.7% completion overall. So it sounds like maybe the "innaccurate when moved off his spot" is even less true about Penix?
(fwiw, JJ goes from 73.2% to 62.3%, wow)

The only real question: is he older or younger than Brian?
But the real question is: who would win in a fight? A wolverine or an owl?
Pretty sure this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolverine_(character) beats this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owl_(Marvel_Comics) though
Maybe it'd be okay. He could "Shank" his kicks but maybe they'd stll go "in".

Iirc Nebraska lost to Texas because a throw out of bounds hit something before time ran out (in Big 12 championship?)
I think if they won that, Suh goes up the rankings that year, and maybe a shot at winning.
So, how does eligibility work - does he get immediate eligibility because of the current injunction allowing unlimited transfers without sitting out?
Happened to me, once in each ankle, in the span of a few months.
Went to the doctor the first time when it still wasn't recovered after 4 weeks, and they just said it would just take a while. They were right.
Second time I didn't go to the doctor, also healed.
If the swelling increases, or color gets worse, or feels noticably worse, that's bad. Anything else it's probably fine
(Not a medical professional. I'm 40 now so definitely taking longer to heal)
Harbaugh trading down so another team can take JJ will have some weird vibes around it, even if Herbert is an entrenched starter.
(Edit: maybe he trades with Macdonald?)

Disagreement in the hillbilly population's movie reviews is too confusing to me, not sure what to do. My world is destroyed.
That's a very interesting result! I assume its biased (too fast) because very few 40 times exist for age ranges 28+
My guess is this is called "negotiating". They'll fight for 3 and end up with 2.

I read that from GP as sarcasm. Text is bad at conveying intent.

Oh well.
Was yours through OnLocation or directly from the Rose Bowl? I don't remember ever getting asked or submitting a preference
Any recommendations on dirt cheap (read: using stuff lying around the house) on how to protect it? More concerned about protection than a fancy display.
Same! I was really disappointed at first.
I only just realized it's the date of the game, but my seat number would have been preferred.
You may have a different definition of bust than others.
Top 3 picks from those years, compared to Braylon's stats. First number is players that were better than Braylon (only counted until I got lazy)
That's 10 out of 18 players that definitely had better outcomes, and 4 or so that had definitively worse careers.
If your definition is "below the median" then yes Braylon had a bad career. But there are many other definitions of "bust"
TBF I don't think we're the only team that lost a coach after they'd accepted a job.
Maybe we're the only one that lost one back to their original job, but even then maybe not.
The numbers will matter. Will Michigan jump ship to super conference for 25% more money? I think that's not likely.
100%? Maybe.
500%? Seems like malpractice not to.
But I assume super conference would try to limit itself to football only, since that would make it easier to be formed.
So, what if you just give everyone the same TV payout? Isn't that what already happens now (excluding "new schools getting less)?
Decreased revenue still from ticket sales yes, but I assume the TV revenue beats ticket revenue by a lot?

Looks like it overlaps a lot
I thought on this blog it would have been "like Jean-Luc Picard"

I'll never forgive ESPN for not doing the Rose Bowl in 4k.
It wasn't even in 1080p!
I never cared before, but this year should be immortalized properly.
As was said (on one of the podcasts I think) these teams only happen when you have experience PLUS instant impact youngsters.
Hasn't mattered to Michigan much in last decades, but (also previously stated) bless the NFL age rule.
I didn't think wanting Worthy was a knock on Wilson at all.
If he makes it to the 6th round the Lions may eye him too.
