Damnit, it’s the wife’s bday weekend and she wants to go out to eat with friends that night 😖
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
That could be ideal - set up a great tailgate - the parking lots open at noon - grill lunch and dinner for the entire crew. Tickets might be reasonable - but, it is parents / family weekend.
Think of your wife's birthday wine glass being "half full"...
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
I just went through this last weekend but my wife scheduled the dinner for us and her 4 friends for 5pm so we'd be home for kickoff. #GonnaKeepHer
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
You could call out sick.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:24 PM ^
That's perfect. Tell her she can go out to eat with friends and you'll stay home and watch the game. A win-win for everyone.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
But why?
It's gonna be FREAKING FREEZING.
Night games should be when it's 80 during the day and 70 at night, in September.
And like...once a year, tops.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:03 PM ^
Only November night game at the big house I can remember was the Indiana game two years ago. I don’t think it was freezing.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:10 PM ^
Minnesota in 2017 was at night also.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:40 PM ^
And delayed an hour for a storm - I couldn't find anyone who wanted to go.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
Why? Because the TV networks are giving the Big Ten gazillions of dollars so the TV networks get to choose the game times.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
Not that I don't believe you, but, uh, do you have any proof of said "confirmation?" I can't find anything official.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
Man. This whole having CBS and Fox/FS1/BTN and NBC/Peacock has really upped the night games frequency but with non-night game opposition.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
This is the B1G slate of games that day. Two points...
First - ND plays AT Clemson. If ND was in South Bend - NBC would broadcast that as a night game - but, warm weather teams don't want to play a night game in the Midwest in November.
Second - if you want to "draw" audience participation / viewership - which game would you select?
- Purdue (NR) at Michigan (2) – 7:30 pm, NBC
- Ohio State (3) at Rutgers (NR) – noon, CBS
- Penn State (10) at Maryland (NR)– TBD pm, Fox
- Wisconsin (NR) at Indiana (NR) – TBD pm
- Nebraska (NR) at Michigan State (NR) – noon, FS1
- Illinois (NR) at Minnesota (NR) – 3:30 pm, BTN
- Iowa (NR) at Northwestern (NR) – 3:30 pm – played at Wrigley Field, Peacock
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:38 AM ^
We can't take all that money from all those networks and not expect that they want something in return. That's on us and the Big Ten Conference that signed those deals.
The fans in the stadium get screwed in all of this because it is clear that they don't matter. When they stop showing up, the ADs and Big Ten Conference will twist themselves into a pretzel trying to cluelessly figure out why.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:26 AM ^
As long as $$ rules, the TV networks will say "jump" and B1G teams say "how high?"
I've kind of come around on the night games. They leave plenty of time for some hiking in the morning, a leisurely brunch and afternoon of watching other games while getting a few chores done around the house. It seems easier to plan around for this eastern time zoner than setting aside ~4-5 hrs in the middle of the day.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
If you're just watching on TV, it's no big deal. But it can be a major hassle for people attending, especially if they have a long drive.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
Not on the MGoBlue website, still shows TBA
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
What's with all the night games? Are we playing in Baton Rouge now.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
I'd say it's mostly NBC wanting to show off its new toy (B1G games) and what better way than including its biggest draw.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:31 AM ^
What I expected. I'm good with it.
Teams sometimes sleepwalk after a bye week when they play a lesser opponent. The night game atmosphere might be what they need to play alert and focused, versus, say, a sleepy noon game on BTN.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
Team facebook page confirmed it
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
One of the downsides of being a powerhouse. All the networks want Michigan in primetime. If they had every game at noon, I'd be pleased as punch.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:36 AM ^
Unless they go Rutgers at Penn State or Minnesota at OSU, a good bet that Michigan at Maryland in Week 12 on Nov. 18 will also be an evening affair.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:42 AM ^
I have tickets to Michigan at Maryland. I have heard that the game is at 3:30.
I hope so. 3:30 is the perfect time for attending a game. It gives you time to get there and tailgate/walk around/pre-game, while still ending early enough so that you are not driving home after midnight.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:38 AM ^
Prediction: Sometime in the third quarter, Carl Grapentine will thank the fans in attendance for being "part of the largest crowd watching a football game in America today". He will then announce an entirely made up attendance number of 108,000+. The fans, each sitting wider than the numbers on the benches would dictate, with plenty of room for their big poofy winter coats, will glance around at the large swathes of empty seats and roll their eyes.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:47 AM ^
Same as it ever was.
I can definitely say that the 100,000 "attendance" streak at Michigan Stadium ended as early as 1988. I was in attendance for Michigan - Minnesota in a driving rain and there were empty seats everywhere. I had my pick of seats, so I left my endzone seat and planted my self on the 50 yard line half way up and watched the game from there.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:58 AM ^
I recall in Nov 2014, the Maryland game, Brady Hoke was the HC. There was rain and mid 30s. There couldn't have more than 50,000 there at the start of the game. WTKA could not even give away a pair of tickets near the 40yd line.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
People seem to misunderstand the derivation of the attendance number. It is not a turnstile count, it is the number of people permitted to be inside the gates.
Attendance = (number of tickets distributed) plus (number of free passes distributed, including ushers, coaches, players, press, etc.)
I guarantee that 100,000 tickets have been sold to this game, and even if nobody actually shows up the attendance will be in the 6 figure range again.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:06 PM ^
He should say the highest number of purchased tickets in America.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:15 PM ^
He will then announce an entirely made up attendance number of 108,000+.
That number is how many tickets were sold, plus press/field passes.
Sports leagues haven't announced the literal attendance since sometime last century.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
I realize that. It's one thing to claim 110,000 in attendance when it's against Ohio State and you a have to spend the whole game with your shoulders angled one way and your knees angled the other because that's the only way you fit. It's another thing to make that claim when the stadium was visibly 80% full at kickoff ("50% in the student section although they're "squishing down") and 10% of the total got up and left after each second half touchdown.
It just comes off as propaganda.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^
meh. duno why. keep it 12... so all the energy is stored up for the week after. im super nervous about PSU. not because i dont think we're better, but.... road games there often yield results unfortunate.
Make psu 1 dimensional. shut down the run. aller will throw picks if he's forced to chuck.
Just bought my Maryland tix with a group of 15. I HOPE we're undefeated!!!! :)
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:48 AM ^
TRVB, the best news about Penn State is - kickoff at noon. I'm very glad it's not a White Out.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:57 AM ^
Fox probably wanted PSU and Maryland at noon. It will definitely be a better game. Maryland will probably beat them.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
That would be November Maryland, mind you.

Fuck night games. I’m old!
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:01 PM ^
Thats why you do what I do watch some of the other day games, maybe get a quick nap in about 3:00, get your snacks, a couple pops, your warmups and slippers on and kick back in the recliner to watch the good guys. I'm probably younger than you and to me thats a great day for football.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:50 AM ^
Ugh. This one was expected to be a night game at the start of the season so I guess I can’t complain too much. But enough already. I’m way too impatient to keep waiting for kickoff.
This might be karma for all the glorious noon starts we got last year.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:51 AM ^
bleah.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:52 AM ^
I would play every game of the season as a night game if it meant avoiding playing at Penn State at night.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:53 AM ^
I'm starting to get used to these night games. Get all my shit done during the day and dont have to worry about schedule conflict with kids soccer games. Maybe grill out and settle in for the night.
Like someone else said they play the Big ten title game at night and the playoff games are early evening/night. The players are used to it now and the night exposure can't hurt recruitin, right? Just stop with the flashing lights FFS.
At least psu and osu are Big Noon games, which works out great.

Noon > Night > 3:30
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:00 PM ^
Dangit! I was hoping for a nooner and was going to take my 11 year old daughter. I actually kind of like the night games and all that but was hoping for a noon game.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:09 PM ^
We need to take some of that tv money and install heated benches if we're going to keep playing at night in November.
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
My kids first Big House experience will be a night game, hell yeah!
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
Have a great time! My son's first game at Michigan Stadium was UTL I - and, he's a junior at Michigan today. Go Blue! Have a ton of fun...
October 23rd, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
Another Saturday night and I ain't got no tickets. Kind a late in the year for night games.
