Michigan Had Carried the B1G Banner since 2013
Wins by Big Ten schools in the last 5 NCAA tournaments:
Michigan: 12
Purdue: 7
Michigan State: 6
Wisconsin: 5
Maryland: 4
Iowa: 3
Ohio State: 2
Indiana: 2
Illinois: 1
Minnesota: 1
Rutgers: 1
Northwestern: 1
Penn State/Nebraska: 0
Autocorrect error - Michigan has carried
And: Michigan has 19 wins since 2013
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/tournament/history/_/team1/6633
Nice stat but even better, Michigan has the most NCAA wins of any school since 2013. 2 more than Duke and Kentucky and 1 more than UNC.
As I've said before - we ARE a basketball school.
And candidly have been since 1964. One National Title, seven title game appearances, eight final fours and 10 conference championships in that time.
Suck that one Sparty.

Since 1964, Michigan football has gone into its bowl game with a realistic chance of winning the NC on just two occasions: 1997 and 1976.
Michigan controlled its own fate in '97; being #1 going into the game, a victory nailed down at least a share of the NC.
In '76, Michigan went into the Rose Bowl ranked #2 against #3 USC, but Pitt was ranked #1. Michigan needed to beat USC and #5 Georgia needed to beat Pitt. Neither happened.
In terms of post-season performance, you're right—we are a basketball school.
What about 1973?
I checked your reference and 18 (2013-2019) + 2 more this year = 20 wins and not the 19 you have posted here. And, certainly not the 12 you have in the OP.
I will refrain from making the typical MGoBlog insult here and instead wish you a well rested morning.
Not 1...not 2...not 12...not 19...
It's It's 20?
Do I hear 21? Anyone have 21?
TWENTY-FOUR is the number we are looking for. Otherwise, four consecutive Sweet Sixteens is quite the remarkable feat relative to the parity that is building across the college basketball scene.
In the op he states the last 5 years. I don’t know if 12 is the right number of wins. But it’s a different period than 13-19
No typo. They used to carry the Big Ten. Still do, but they used to too.

Per the ESPN link above...
Since 2013 (doesn't include 2021):
Michigan - 18
MSU - 15
OSU - 6
Wisconsin - 3
Indiana - 2
Iowa - 2
Illinois - 1
Maryland - 1
Minnesota - 1
Purdue - 1
Northwestern - 0
These schools weren't in the link above:
(The list above only goes back as far as 2008)
Nebraska - 0
PSU - 0
Rutgers - 0
P.S. Apparently this list is not consistent. Sometimes it shows MSU at 15, 10, 14 or 7. Something is clearly wrong with how it's pulling data. Not to mention it doesn't show they had a loss in 2019. When I click back to MSU after checking my number for OSU (which also changed for 3 to 6) it changed to 9 and has a loss for 2019!
WTF nice job ESPN.
(Edit: Just look at Billy Seamonster's post below.)
might want to check your numbers. Don't look at the actual games (they seem to have screwed that functionality up). Look at the actual W-L instead.

The problem with that is you can't track it to a specific year like the OP.
uh, why does MSU lose 7 wins?

As I added to my post above, the ESPN list is jacked and doesn't populate the data consistently.

If no one has posted this, this is after going through Wikipedia. Counting 2013 and 2021, heres the updated stat:
Michigan - 20
MSU - 15
Wisconsin - 14
Purdue - 7
OSU - 6
Maryland - 5
Indiana - 4
Iowa - 4
Illinois - 2
Minnesota - 2
Northwestern - 1
Nebraska - 1
PSU - 1
Rutgers - 1

Penn State has ZERO appearances since 2011 and they lost their one game.
(Last win was in 2001 prior to being in the B1G.)
Nebraska has ZERO appearances since 2014 and they lost their one game.
(Nebraska is 0-7 in the Tourney in their history.)
Love the stat, but you say past 5 years and since 2013; which is it?
Should have been 19 wins since 2013
it should have been 20, if you count louisville.
21 if you count Louisville and LSU from last night.
22 if you count Kentucky.
The block was clean and so was the team.

Maybe Colombo, Barnaby Jones or Jim Rockford can help you get to the bottom of this
I wonder how long people are going to keep saying "January, February, Izzo". More like "January, February, Michigan" over the last 5-8 years
The people who say that are too dumb to be reasoned with, so I wouldn’t hold my breath

It’s fine. MSU can have March. We’ll take April.
Loyola has the same number of wins as Tiny Tim Izzo in the last 5 tournaments and more Sweet 16 appearances. Mr. March indeed.
Yeah, but MSU had to deal with injuries! And refs! And bad weather! Nothing is Tom's fault.
They're also the only team that has to deal with covid issues and fallout.
Go easy Dean, Izzo’s had a rough week
Good info; the stats don't lie. Given this year's upset minded NCAA Tourny environment, Michigan is doing great.
I really like the twice as many wins that MSU.
One would think that Tiny Tim would try harder in the play-in games, just to pad his win total.
You'll like it even more when you realize it is actually 3X as many.
In before FSU is unbeatable juggernaut wimps and this streak is coming to an end concern trolls... they lost to
11-12 UCF by 12
16-8 Clemson by 10
17-9 GaTech by 11
18-11 UNC by 8
11-15 Notre Dame (!) by 10
and GaTech again by 5
5-5 away from home.
Win the game. Go blue!
Although their size is going to be a problem, I have not been very impressed with their offense in their first two games. The only thing that would make me concerned in this game is Dickinson getting in foul trouble but he seems to do better with fouls (or at least the refs don’t make dumb calls) when he is going up against bigger guys. Go Blue!
Doesn't mean they are not scary.
Now do who they beat.
...FSU is the Chaundee Brown of basketball teams. I said this last week, it's not that we fear them per se, but many of us understand what they have the potential to be if they get hot.
They're the streakiest team in the country.
They can beat us by 20, it can be another close game like LSU or we could win by 20. None of those outcomes would be surprising.
Just like Brown can come off the bench and light you up from 3, play decent but nothing noteworthy or he can go 0-6 and drop a stinker...nothing surprises us anymore. But his defense, length and energy is always going to be there.
The scary part about FSU isn't that they're a world beater or even the length...it's the unknown. We knew LSU was great offensively and shit on defense. FSU, Leonard Hamilton doesn't even know what he's going to get from his team week-to-week.
And one more thing, the length is a concern...not inside, but Smith played his worst game of his career at Michigan and was bothered by the length.
If they press, which they will at some point - especially if behind...Brooks isn't the best if he has to be the primary PG.
It's not a insurmountable, but that's where the length concerns me, not necessarily in the post. I almost like that they have height in the post because they're less likely to double Hunter.
They also got taken to OT by Indiana.
Notre Dame absolutely dominated FSU in the first half of that game, leading by 16 at half.
...and most definitely carrying the B1G this year!
Wow. I didn’t realize the gap was that wide.
I do wish Scottie Barnes had made a better destination decision. The kid looks damn good and Juwan and staff would have made him even better.
This is awesome to see the upward trajectory of the program. Lets take the next step and start winning National Championships. Participation trophies are lame
Though the other responses suggest some fumbled numbers, the overall picture is impressive.
We're the alpha dog in this league...any remaining doubts are gone
Probably the most refreshing thing to me right now is the fact that we have had such a consistent basketball team for almost a decade. Juwan I believe is going to raise the level even higher! It makes me not even think about football.

And I think that we can really start to create more daylight between the UM and rest of the league going forward here. Need to enlist some writer of national stature to do a piece on 'Michigan's Basketball Dominance in the Twenty-First Century.' Suffering through the games one by one as we do, we sometimes fail to recognize how amazing this run has been.
