March Madness Day One

Submitted by VCavman24 on March 21st, 2024 at 3:59 PM

The first day of March Madness is upon us!  While not as exciting with our Wolverines missing the Big Dance for the second year in a row, it is still a fun event.

So far 3-seed Creighton is the only top seed to take care of business, beating Akron handily.  11-seed Duquesne upset 6-seed BYU, and some no-name agricultural school beat Mississippi State.  14-seed Morehead State is leading 3-seed Illinois by one point with lots of time remaining.

What games are you watching today?  What upsets are you picking?  Who will win the whole thing?

I’m increasingly of the opinion that Otzelberger is the guy. Considering how important this decision is, it would be incredibly stupid for Michigan to let a buyout get in the way.

Medved is not Beilein 2, that's what all y'all want. He's not him. He's got a system that wouldn't beat the UConns & Houstons with smaller post players.

Mark Pope has a system with big guys. So do O-berger, Kyle Smith, McDermott.

I can see the MVC & Mtn West teams are mostly small. I'm just not sold on Medved - he's no Beilein 2!

So you’re saying Medved would turn down the opportunity to recruit tall/big players because of his system? I’m pretty sure most coaches make do with the resources they have. If there’s a 7ft C out there who handles the ball like like a PG and shoots like a SF, I’d bet he’d kick the tires…

Also Beilein absolutely had some sizable players during his time as well. Go look through his rosters over his tenure and tell me he didn’t have skilled athletes with size. Do you need 275 lb polar bears to be considered good sized? Point is I’d gladly order up a Beilein 2.0 over what has recently been served.

Just a standard 2-3 zone, Cal made absolutely no adjustments. Why Izzo needs to shut his mouth about giving blue bloods a pass in the tournament. This is what March Madness is all about, the little guys & the players/coaches that make the best adjustments & have the best connection. Also who shoots best for 40 minutes.

the oakland win is exactly what makes the NCAA the best sports tournament in the world.  it happens every year, it is completely and utterly unpredictable, and it is wonderful.   good on those kids (the griz), want more of that for the lower seeds.  love to see it.

EDIT:  and the wings win 6-3 over the islanders, who are the team right behind them in the playoff rankings.  we now have a 5 pt lead, though they do have a couple games in hand.  we've been missing larkin, our captain, and he was back tonight.

The Griz won despite going 13-23 from the FT line.  Hit better from the stripe Saturday and anything is possible against a #6 or #11 seed

Something about these blue blood coaches blaming their players for the loss. Cal just saying his players didn't play like they did all season, blah blah blah - basically not my fault we lost. What a douche canoe
