Jim Tressel is a Free Man this Week
After five years of hard labor in the worst place in the world (i.e. Youngstown, Ohio), Coach Jim Tressel - formerly of THE Ohio State University in THE State of Ohio - will see his 5-year show-cause penalty end this week.
So, here's the question... Does anyone else think he ends up back in coaching? Honestly, I could see it. Yes, he's the president of a university now, and that's not a bad gig, but you have to think that a guy with that much ego and that much lust for unfair competition, who still has so many tattoos and cars to give to young disenfranchised men just trying to make their way in the world, he's gotta miss the game.

I'm still baffled that any university would want him around any of their students, let alone student-athletes.. but yeah, someone will give that scumbag another coaching gig.

Met Jim at a banquet a year or so ago. Nice man but just a bit "handsy" if you know what I mean. It was like standing next to a frisky octopus....

Baffled??? No offense to MGrow Old and other loyal fans in ohio, but considering some of their finest residents believe this is a good use of a Coleman cooler....

I hate OSU and Tressel as much as any Michigan fan, but lying about tattoos and cars pales in comparison to what other coaches have done.

That's just what he was convicted of by the NCAA.

character. Tressel, not so much.

but he wasn't really doing him any favors. Look instead at how the tutor that blew the whistle on his academic cheating was treated. This is a man who cheated relentlessly his entire career and people that got in his way were not treated well. I think his players generally were though. One thing he didn't do was oversign and cut players.

Hello Notre Dame...
The height of hypocrisy if that happened! Would be epic.

Yeah, ND would make a lot of sense. If he's interested in coaching, I'd have to think he would've put out feelers to Texas, LSU and even Baylor.
I think those would have been great landing spots for him.
December 19th, 2016 at 6:29 PM ^
Alum96 was making a joke. ND would never hire Tressel as their head coach. None of those other schools you mentioned would either.

Maybe Kelly will get fired and ND will hire Tressel as HC, Dantonio as DC, and Al Borges as OC. It'll be like the trifecta of the worst decade of Michigan football since the 50's

Tressel just turned 64 and that isn't young for a coach to be starting out at a major program. He has been away from the game for five years and left OSU with a bunch of money. I'd be surprised if he jumps into coaching again, but who knows.
December 19th, 2016 at 9:19 PM ^
^^^ This. He's been out of the game for 5 years and it's passed him by. His connections are probably dry. I doubt he could get a recruit a free tattoo these days, let alone a car.
December 19th, 2016 at 5:54 PM ^
His availability has to, at least, turn up the heat a little on Dantonio's seat.

As does P.J. Flecks.

For OSU gear......Man of the year 2010.
December 19th, 2016 at 4:24 PM ^
That would have been one hell of a hire.

He is 64 years old now . . . would he still want to get back in the game?
December 19th, 2016 at 4:32 PM ^
True, 64 is pretty old. But when your primary form of sustenance is feasting on the still-beating hearts of baby kittens, you tend to live longer...

I mean, I could be reading too much into it, but I get the feeling from your above comment, that you don't care much for Mr. Tressel...?

I agree the ND job sounds like a good fit. Win at all costs is what the alumni want now but when the get caught they can claim ignorance.

The cover up was worse than the crime. Honestly, as big of idiots as guys like Posey, Herron and Pryor were, they didn't do anything that a lot of guys didn't do before them at countless other schools. They were just the ones that got caught. Doesn't make it right, but when you compare them to what happened at Miami, Penn State and Baylor, they're choir boys.
Had Tressel not tried covering it up, he likely would still be coaching there.

That's what happens when you win and when you beat your rival consistently. You're given the benefit of the doubt every single time.
If Tressel had been another John Cooper, he would've been run out of town and probably not welcomed back. Let's put it this way: he certainly wouldn't have been paraded around the stadium to a standing ovation less than two after he disgraced the entire program.
It's easy to forgive things when you win.

Wow, that sounds a lot like penn state fans and the pedophile enabler joepa. 3, 2, 1....
BTW, FUCK penn state and all their delusional joepa loving fans!!!
