Got hit by a dump truck trying to cross the expressway. If he ran out of gas as someone commented here, then would make more sense. If not, I can't imagine the circumstances why this would happen

That is absolutely terrible. I just told my wife that there were/are certain players from rival schools that you just can't help but be in awe of and respect; and he was one of them. This really bums me out. RIP Dwayne.

We had WWJ on in the background for a bit while purging a few rooms for renovations and they read this story and I did a double take.

Very tragic news indeed, and so young too.

There is a you tube video of his father asking Dwayne when he was young and in the Ohio state locker room what he thought of Ohio state.  He had this huge smile that comes from a child’s awe at any amazing moment and goes,”I’m going to play here someday”.   I think about how his father must feel and the pain and certain anguish of knowing that the son he loves so much, who had such joy in living and doing what he loved, is just gone.   That person you love more than yourself is just…gone.   When I think about that, as a father, I just break down.   To the whole Haskins family, especially Mr. Haskins Sr., my prayers, condolences and heart felt sadness.   Too sad, too young, too soon.

Tell them everyday how much you love them.  Some days they will say it back, some days they will roll their eyes, and some days they won’t even respond.  But they will ALWAYS know it’s truth in their hearts.   That’s why it’s important….

Just remember, if you ever have to pull over on the freeway, try to get out of your car away from traffic.  People are paying less attention on the freeway because they are just cruising at top speed and not watching for any cross traffic or pedestrians.

Super sad accident.

Very sad news.  Haskins was a formidable college QB who had most of his life ahead of him.  Peace to his family and friends in this tragic time.

People underestimate how fast  highway traffic is moving. Years ago, I saw a guy run across an expressway. I could tell he was running hard, but compared to the cars bearing down on him, it looked like he was moving in slow motion. He made it, but it was terrifying.

RIP to Haskins and condolences to the family.  As there’s a drive into deep left field by Castalleanos and that will be a home run.  And that will make it 2-0 Phillies over the A’s.  Best wishes to Dwayne’s family and friends.

As much as I hated it, that kid played like a man against us. I will always respect his coming into that game cold and doing what he did. Hurt like hell but I'll never forget that guy. This is so sad and tragic,  to all my Buckeye friends I'm sorry for your loss. Way too young. RIP Dwayne.

As a 58 year old, very tragic. Had a few close calls with boating and car "potential" accidents in my 20s while in my day, but somehow survived.

If there's anything we can take away from this - think and demonstrate KINDNESS toward all you meet. People won't remember the last thing you said to them, but only how you made them feel. KINDNESS is a gift, pass it on.

Sorry to hear this. He was still doing his best to make it in the league, and those roster spots don't come easily. Obviously, he demonstrated considerable talent against Michigan.

I didn't know his sister-in-law is the basketball player (Kysre Gondrezick) who left Michigan right before their NIT-winning run a few years back. His wife played for Michigan State, though injuries kept her off the court for the most part.

Awful news. 24 is way too young. It hits closer to home since we all remember watching him play for our main rival and in THE GAME. My condolences to his family, OSU fans, Steeler fans.

RIP, and condolences to his family, friends, and fans. The death of a young person is never easy to deal with. Add in the senselessness of the circumstances, and that makes it even harder to understand. Not that it matters in the scheme of things, but I cannot imagine a reasonable scenario where crossing on foot multiple lanes of an expressway would be the best option available.

RIP, Dwayne.  I will always remember his game against Michigan where he went off and throttled us.  Not a fond memory for us Michigan fans but it must have been a highlight of his young life.

Tragic, sad and way too young to leave this earth.  Thoughts and prayers to Dwayne's family and friends and the rest of Buckeye nation and the sports world mourning this unthinkable loss.

He was trying to turn his career around. He was down in the area on an outing and team bonding event with the offensive playmakers. Considering his time at Washington, that alone means he was taking the Steelers job far more seriously and trying his best to help the team and the team morale. So right as he was trying to turn the corner and learning what it takes to be a team player in the NFL, this happens. So, so tragic.
