DBs Doing Work (Lewis & Peppers shirtless pic)
OK, so it's summer, I'm not a big fan of watching the soccer on television, and I'm a teacher...a little bored! But, I happend to come across this picture of Jordan Lewis, Jabrill Peppers, and Terry Richardson and I figured some may be interested.
I'm really excited about how good the DBs can be this year. With Countess and Wilson coming back, Lewis' performance in the spring game, Stribling getting all that experience last year, and Peppers in the mix it should be a very talented group. I don't want to forget about Thomas and Taylor too, so hopefully they both continue to make strides.
I will say this picture does continue to make me question if Peppers is really 6'1". Unless Lewis grew a lot this offseason Peppers looks closer to 5'10". But, Lewis sure looks a lot bigger than 174 lbs weight he's listed at...if Peppers is in fact 210 lbs. I'm gonna hope that Lewis is getting bigger! I think thest two are really good this year!
drools
Lewis is wearing cleats and Peppers is barefoot, so that creates some of the height difference.
Peppers looks shorter because of perspective since he's farther back. Also, as others have pointed out, he's also barefoot. Being as highly scrutinized and scouted as he was, I'd be surprised if his reported height is significantly off.
Peppers head is tilted back. Always thought he was a legit 6', but I'm not to worried about Jabrill.
I'm LOLing in general at these comments trying to justify his height. Look he is about 5'11. No shame in that - he is overreported in HS and it is what it is. Everyone said the same things when he was standing next to Woodson (depth perception, camera angle, this, that blah blah) You can be a superior CB at 5'11 - Dennard from MSU is that height and Peppers is walking in at the same weight Dennard was as a senior.
And to counter point - yeah Lewis is in shoes but his legs are also splayed pretty far apart, while Peppers has his feet together , probably shortchanging Lewis of half an inch. And isn't Richardson 5'8? Even in crocs he does not look that much shorter than Peppers.
TL:DR - Peppers is ~5'11 - no need to try to justify it away.
I'm LOLing with you rather than at you if it helps ;)
Let's just stop trying to justify his height - it starting to become a meme. This is 3rd (4th?) time we've seen photos of him where he is shorter than 6'+ dude, or similar height to 5'10, 5'11 guy and we get a rush of people explaining to us why our eyes are lying to us - the angles, sunlight, wind speed, pixelation, bad cameras, blah blah. Why are we doing this? Hell Gary Harris did fine in a sport where height matters more and he was 2.5 inches under reported :P I am sure Peppers will be fine if he is what he has been made out to be.
If this lack of 2 inches causes him ti he gets outjumped by AJ Green in 2017 after he is drafted 7th overall because he is 5'11 - oh well. ;) I'm sure he'll survive.
I think the fact one of them is in cleats and the other is in socks is a pretty good justification.
what kind of footwear they are all wearing?
Lewis is wearing golf shoes, Peppers is wearing pumps, and T-Rich is wearing Crocs.
Officially Li$censed Crocs
which in itself is outstanding. However, I feel really good about this group as a whole. With the addition of Peppers, Mattison will, of course, be able to come up with some nickel schemes that might not all be necessarily designed to protect against the pass. Yeah, I really feel he adds that much. I guess rehashing Countess's stats would just be a retelling of what everyone alreadys knows. The kid that has impressed me since a freshman though, and yes, even with those mistakes that come with being that young is Jarrod W. It's difficult to pinpoint; can't say it's the swag because he seems to comport himself very well on the field. He just seems to always be near the ball whether or not it's the cb's assignment and I guess that is what an outstanding safety is supposed to do. There is just something about this young man that gives me confidence he's going to be among the best in his final two seasons. And Peppers, even though CW was an All-State RB, seems to have superior offensive skills than our greatest cb ever.
Can understand why both coordinators are getting in Brady's ear over this young man. Thinking he'll see the balls in ways Charles never did. Guess a lot of that has to do with the fact offenses have changed so much since his days here. Whereas lining up CW in the backfield in a Wildcat wouldn't have necessarily made him the most dangerous runner coming out of the backfield, can't say the same about Jabrill.
I don't think it's strange at all when the kid is 5'9 165 as a sophomore. He probably should have RS as a frosh but either he didn't want to or the coaches thought they needed him.
As a recruit I remember Richardson talking about playing early, so maybe he needed a year to see for himself that a RS year would help.
for your very clever response!
Somehow I have the feeling that Pepper is going to be that guy that checks in at 5'11 1/2" at the combine after being 6'1" on the roster his entire college career.
I know I'm opposing the popular opinion here, but there's an aspect of threads like these that's kind of creepy to me. And that aspect is only accentuated each time someone types "drools" and then submits it as a totally normal thing to say.
It showed up in my Twitter feed. I don't go on Twitter all that much to be honest and I don't follow any of the athletes in the pics (although I do follow a few UM players like DG and Lewan). But, as a former strength coach and former competitive bodybuilder I have always been fascinated by the muscle building process and I don't see any problem with posting pictures of men not wearing shirts. If you don't like it so be it, to each his own. FWIW I have a master's degree in exercise science with a concentration in performance enhancement if that changes your perspective.
Let's break down his name. Do you want to change your post now? You should be a little more careful before calling someone an idiot.
And maybe it's just from using my phone, but do these guys seem like they've been stretched out vertically in this picture to anybody else? It's really quite bizarre looking
First of all Peppers isn't wearing shoes so he looks shorter. Also Peppers is standing in the back so he is father away from the camerea so he may look a little smaller. So I would say that peppers is at least 6'.
Ahem... OMG shirtless tag necessary... Can't just say 'shirtless pic'
Terry's arms still aren't as toned as you would expect.
Just to clarify, smooth muscle is not skeletal muscle. Smooth muscle is the muscle that makes up things like blood vessels that you don't have conscious control over. I think you meant to reference type I vs type II muscle fiber types. "Quick twitch" muscle is generally considered type II muscle fibers, which are in fact explosive, powerful, generally more akin to muscular folks, but quick-to-fatigue skeletal muscle fibers. Fast athletes like sprinters tend to have a higher percentage of this type of muscle fiber. Type I fibers, which I think you're referencing are slower to fatigue, but also less explosive, are slower to contract, and produce less force. Marathon runners generally have a higher percentage of this type of muscle fiber. My hunch is however that Richardson is still probably more type II dominant only because he's really fast. He's just a small guy in general. Although more muscular guys tend to be more type II dominant, that's not a hard and fast rule.
Science Bitch!
Science Bitch!
I have the same build as Richardson and I'd sit in my dorm cafeteria, eat with all my hallmates then me and my Asian friend (who also had the same issue of build) would eat a whole 'nother meal..then we'd work out (we lived on the hill), and go home and eat more. At best we could put on about 15-18 lbs from what I'd call our normal weight - and if we didn't work out for 3-5 weeks we'd lose half that immediately.
It's just metabolism and if you are of a certain "width" (narrow shoulders) there is only so much you can do . We were strong as hell and we'd see guys who were 6'1, 200 lbs walk in the weight room as newbiees who looked like pro athletes but they could only lift as much as us who were 50 lbs less. Some of this is just freak genetics that you cannot do anything about - Richardson has the same chicken calves I do :) He just doesn't have that body frame to add much on... Ross III seems to be somewhat similar but starting form a much better base of course.
And no I never had abs like that either hah
They're a curse.
