Caitlan Clark fans join Michigan fans in thinking Gregg Doyel is a complete idiot
Gregg Doyel, Michigan hater and alleged journalist for the Indianapolis Star, took out a hammer yesterday and proceeded to smash his balls for the world to see. Not content with being known as an idiot for posting comments like "It's not fair to give JJ McCarthy a Heisman vote because of Conner Stallions" and "National title for Harbaugh's cheating would render college football meaningless" Doyel yesterday had this exchange with Caitlen Clark during her introductory press conference in Indiana:
Doyel: 🫶
Caitlin Clark: "You like that?"
Doyel "I like that you're here."
Caitlin: "Yeah, I do that at my family after every game.”
Doyel: "Start doing it to me and we'll get along just fine."
Caitlin: 😳

Assclown
EDIT: Gregg Doyel, not OP.

Understood and seconded

Relieved and thirded

Doyel using a hammer to smash his balls for all the world to see was a uniquely evocative image....well done!
April 18th, 2024 at 10:45 AM ^
Yeah, I may steal that.
Hey, you can't third it...you firsted it :)
April 18th, 2024 at 10:19 AM ^
That's really creepy.
The JJ McCarthy comments were stupid enough to demonstrate how bad a cmmentator/journalist he is.
Let’s just go with Catan and trade some goods with her.

MGrowOld, Impressive usage of Caitlan, Caitlen, and Caitlin all in the same Post lol
April 18th, 2024 at 10:24 AM ^
OP user name always checks ;)
April 18th, 2024 at 10:26 AM ^
Which one do you like better? Personally I favor the Caitlan version but I can see where some folks, like her parents for example, would lean more towards the Caitlin versus the Caitlan. Then there's the Caitlen which is the only one that spellcheck rejects (NTTAWWT) but in effort to be more inclusive I tossed it into the mix.

I see you made it to DEI training. Maybe you could inform Doyle how and where to sign up.
April 18th, 2024 at 11:09 AM ^
I prefer Caitlen version. My wife has a reasonably popular name but has a different vowel in place of what I could consider the traditional spelling. Much like Caitlen vs Caitlin. It gets misspelled constantly, even in work emails where the spelling is RIGHT THERE. She gets unreasonably annoyed by it and it never fails to make me chuckle.
I like C8lan a lot. Or KVIIIlin (yes, that's an 8 in roman numerals if you're wondering) even better
That looks like my class roster some semesters--just add in Katelyn, plus an Ashley and an Ashleigh, and maybe an Ashlynn.
EDITED TO ADD: oops, should have read a little lower in the thread. Several others have made this same observation.

But he misspelled Greggg every time

As a former sports writer who cut his teeth taking calls from coaches to create high school basketball box scores - girls' names are the worst as far as spelling variation. Jenni, Jenny, Jennie, Ginny, Ginnie...Kathy, Kathi, Kathie, Cathy, Cathi, Cathie, Cathey...etc. God forbid if you spelled someone's precious daughter's name wrong in an agate type box score.
April 18th, 2024 at 11:42 AM ^
There was some High School basketball game ~ 10 years ago ........ SI or someone did a one sentence hit on the game ........ 10 different girls started the game. EIGHT of them were named Caitlin, and there were FIVE different spellings of the name.
Your worst nightmare!

I personally prefer Catalan. Great chess opening with white against many of black's defenses.
[that's racist.gif]
Or Cataan

And I double posted. Shame!
April 18th, 2024 at 10:23 AM ^
Wow! Somehow watching the video makes it even worse! The way he says that he likes that she's heeeere is very uhhhhhhh...maybe file the restraining order now???
April 18th, 2024 at 10:27 AM ^
He clearly had that comment tee'd up and was expecting some huge laugh from it, rather than the truly cringe moment that transpired.
April 18th, 2024 at 10:54 AM ^
Oddly enough, it sounds like a lot of people laughed in the video.

To be fair... Indiana
April 18th, 2024 at 12:29 PM ^
Assault. However, as one who lives in Indiana, I cannot spot the lie.
I think it was one of those laughs that people use to break up uncomfortable silences. To me the laughs were further acknowledgement of the cringe in the room.

Practicing for weeks in the mirror thinking he had something only to dunk on himself in front of a national audience
If Michael Scott was a sports columnist.
+1. Underrated.
I feel like her saying "I do that for my family every game" unprompted was a hint that it's for them, not creepy old men.

This confirms my longstanding theory that Graham Couch is secretly Gregg Doyle disguised with a sandy comb-over wig
April 18th, 2024 at 10:25 AM ^
He's creepy enough to be an MSU beat writer.
April 18th, 2024 at 10:30 AM ^
Gross. Always gross. But especially since he's in his mid-50's and thus literally old enough to be her father.
It is astounding to me that men continue to behave in this manner. Like every woman should be interested in them or pleased to receive their attention and admiration.
And, because of the OP, I'm now not sure how to properly spell Ms. Clark's first name.
So, per Janet Jackson's orders, I will continue to refer to her as Ms. Clark.
Edited to add that his Wiki entry has already been updated to reflect the situation!

"And, because of the OP, I'm now not sure how to properly spell Ms. Clark's first name."
Welcome to my world.
April 18th, 2024 at 11:17 AM ^
When in doubt, use the softball superlatives. In the case, “Lady that shoots the hell out of the ball” or “That one lady that’s better than everybody else”
Forgive me if I'm missing the sarcasm... Why, in the age of three-second Google searches, is the name "Caitlin" so tricky? "Ms. Clark" in this context sounds cringey too.
April 18th, 2024 at 10:31 AM ^
In what world would this guy think that is appropriate? "Start doing it to me and we'll get along just fine."??? WTF? I hope the paper has apologized to Clark. Big creepy old man vibes in this exchange.
April 18th, 2024 at 10:41 AM ^
The paper apologising should only be step 1...
April 18th, 2024 at 12:44 PM ^
Or just fire him. I know he has a ton of shit takes (see his stuff pop up all the time given my location/fandom of Indy sports), but it seems like most of the time he's just trolling for clicks. I know I know, all online journalists do that to an extent, but it's just gotten to an absurd level.
You're right, it's everywhere. Here in Cleveland one of our local idiots with a mic & platform, no sorry, journalists, went on a Jihad day before yesterday because the Browns signed two players to one day contracts so they could retire as a Brown. He said it was "embarrassing" that they did that (the players Christian Kirksey & Rashard Higgins were both popular with the fans) and acting like they were being signed to an actual roster slot.
He got summarily roasted by literally everyone and the next day he apologized.
April 18th, 2024 at 12:58 PM ^
I couldn't' understand what he said before the pause and she responded with, "you like that?" The thing he said at the end is super weird and creepy, but what did he say at the beginning after he ID'ed himself?
April 18th, 2024 at 10:38 AM ^
I have lived in Indy for a long time and have seen his quest to be and feel significant detoriate to worse and worse levels. This, amazingly, is probably the new low. The guy is a joke.
April 18th, 2024 at 12:01 PM ^
I will never understand why IndyStar got rid of Kravitz and hired this moron. I know some Michigan fans don't like Kravitz either because he broke the Deflategate story on Brady. But I found him to be an excellent Indy sports beat reporter.
He's been awful from day 1, and he stirs up controversy with the Colts and Pacers and IU and Purdue for the stupidest reasons, he tries to create drama where there is none. He's the journalistic equivalent of a trigger happy message board poster. Fire everyone! burn it down! he's terrible.
FWIW just to be completely objective, he has issued apologies in multiple forms now.
Ugh, he's using his "apology" to generate clicks. That's somehow even worse than if he hadn't apologized at all.
April 18th, 2024 at 10:41 AM ^
Wait, what?
April 18th, 2024 at 10:50 AM ^
Gregg Doyel showed his penis to Kaitlynn Clarke during a press conference and was attacked by her family after the game.
April 18th, 2024 at 12:49 PM ^
Ahh yes... How the 'chain of informational story-telling' winds its way through the links...
LMAO!!
That would've been Must See TV.
