Hoops Recruiting Will Get Answers
All the speculation will be exchanged for concrete information this week. Will five-star commit Isaiah Todd sign early? Will two of Michigan’s remaining targets in Nimari Burnett and Hunter Dickinson be heading to Ann Arbor next year? These questions are widely expected to be answered in the coming days. Let’s take a look at where we stand with all three and welcome a familiar face a bit earlier than expected.
Nimari Burnett to Announce Tomorrow
Very important announcement on Nov 12th‼️ Stay tuned
— Nimari Burnett (@NimariBurnett) November 8, 2019
Top-25 guard Nimari Burnett will make his college selection tomorrow between Michigan, Alabama, Texas Tech and Oregon at approximately 1pm EST via Instagram/Twitter. Michigan has been involved with Burnett for quite some time, starting with the John Beilein regime. The relationship grew stronger upon the Juwan Howard hiring and culminated in an early September official visit.
Nimari and family haven’t given away many hints throughout his recruitment, and very few have access to reliable information. All four finalists received an OV, and standard fluff-type substance was given in the aftermath of each visit.
Having been in communication with Burnett and family throughout the process, Michigan did a great job of checking the boxes. Nimari would’ve had the opportunity to play on-ball, with sufficient playing time as a freshman in a fast-paced offensive system.
That said, I do not expect Burnett to choose the Wolverines tomorrow. The staff did all they could here, but it would not be a surprise to see Texas Tech land$the Chicago-native tomorrow afternoon.
[Hit THE JUMP for a big-time visitor.]
Early to the Party
2020 five-star guard Josh Christopher was tentatively scheduled to hit Ann Arbor in March, but will now visit Michigan on November 22 per Rivals.
The dynamic combo-guard is an elite scorer that possesses great athleticism and playmaking ability coupled with an infectious personality that makes him a can’t-miss prospect at the college level.
This is a long shot to be sure, with a family member on staff at Missouri, his brother currently suiting up for Arizona State and UCLA being heavily involved with a SoCal kid.
That said, visiting on short notice is certainly a nice development in light of the upcoming Burnett commitment that isn’t likely to be favorable. One has to assume that Isaiah Todd and Josh Christopher are having discussions about the possibility of teaming up and the thought of those two in the maize and blue makes your author very happy.
On to Something
Other outlets are starting to come around to the idea that top-40 center Hunter Dickinson is informally down to a top two of Michigan and Florida State after my initial report last week. 247 reported the same last week via the Michigan Insider:
“As best as I can tell right now, Duke isn't an option. Sounds like Michigan and Florida State are on the top line, with Notre Dame very much in the mix, but maybe a half step behind.”
I expect a decision at some point during the early-signing period. While Dickinson has played things close to the vest, it appears as though Michigan has a legitimate shot at landing the 7-footer with Duke supposedly no longer in consideration. The depth-chart favors the Wolverines along with the NBA pedigree of Juwan Howard.
Let’s hope the staff can close the deal on an upper-tier prospect for the second time in the last month.
Happy Trails
In a move that was$expected, top-60 wing Moses Moody committed to Arkansas last Friday.

Do we have any other options other than Christopher ?
November 11th, 2019 at 5:53 PM ^
Yes, probably thousands. Technically, I still have eligibility.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
Jace Howard I guess
November 11th, 2019 at 5:52 PM ^
What are the fall back options for guards because Christopher doesnt appear remotely close to deciding and we cant get left at the altar?
November 11th, 2019 at 6:08 PM ^
Well, we already have one Top 60 guard committed in Zeb Jackson. I"m guessing there are a couple lower ranked guys we will scout early senior season.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:16 PM ^
Jace Howard is the lower rated guy they'd take. If it were me, i'd make the 2021 highly rated PG the top priority. I think he wanted to reclassify so it kind of works out.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:21 PM ^
Like who though? I've looked at several sites and the list of prospects seem the same.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:14 PM ^
We can't get altered at the altar, either.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:48 PM ^
You underestimate my dedication to my craft.
November 11th, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
Wouldn’t be shocked to see Zaire Wade get an offer shortly. He recently shot ip the 247 rankings after their update.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:22 PM ^
Sure hope Burnett and Dickinson both commit to UM. Need to jumpstart the Juwan era.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:24 PM ^
Well the national analysts are starting to all put their crystal balls on Tx Tech for Burnett so I'd say we can forget that one. Why Texas Tech for someone who wants to dominate offensively in a fast paced style of play?
November 11th, 2019 at 6:41 PM ^
If so, this one will sting a little. He seemed to slowly slip away from UM for some reason despite the staff doing all they could to convince him Ann Arbor was the best fit for him. Recruiting big time players is exciting, but it stinks all the more when the good guys lose out.
November 11th, 2019 at 6:56 PM ^
It'll sting because there was a longstanding relationship with the family and Howard. Hes also from the Chicago area where Juwan wants to recruit heavily. I think I would've understood Alabama more than Tx Tech on this one.
November 11th, 2019 at 7:50 PM ^
It might sting, yes, but for all of those great ties to leverage, Howard and Oats are still first-year head coaches at their respective schools (Howard a first yr HC period, of course) and they can’t change that. Can’t blame Burnett and his family for wanting to select a surer thing. Most of us would want the same choice for our family.
November 12th, 2019 at 7:44 AM ^
Texas Tech has sent shooting guards to the lottery the last two years (Zhaire Smith and Jarrett Culver), is coming off a national championship appearance, and has one of the top young coaches in the game. It’s not hard to see the appeal.
November 11th, 2019 at 8:47 PM ^
What do you mean "jumpstart?" Did you not see the Todd commitment?
November 11th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
If we miss out on Burnett, does Khristian Lander reclassifying become an option? I know we already have Zeb in the class, but he seems like he could be more of a combo guard. But also having junior DeJulius, plus Jackson and Lander would be a bit of a log jam
November 11th, 2019 at 7:02 PM ^
I would hope so if they can make it happen. DD hasnt shown anything yet (I know its early) that would keep me from bringing in a 5 star talent. I guess some of that would be what discussions they've had with Zeb also, you dont want to push him away. Most of these 20 kids are at the tail end of their recruitments.
November 11th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
I do find a bit weird though that Juwan isn't prodding at some already committed kids to see if maybe he could flip some of them. Kinda seems like Juwan doesn't want to put out any more offers for some reason
November 11th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
It's been proven that there's a reason for everything.
November 11th, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
Juwan has had like 6 months to recruit, zeb, Dickinson, Todd would be a fantastic first class given the situation
November 11th, 2019 at 7:35 PM ^
So it seems like the most likely class is Todd, Dickinson, Jackson, and Howard. Pretty good class, but missing out on a Moody and Burnett does suck.
November 11th, 2019 at 7:39 PM ^
If anyone is looking for a chuckle, try highlighting over "land the Chicago" and "that was expected".
November 11th, 2019 at 7:50 PM ^
Great catch! That'$ an impressive example of reading between the line$.
November 11th, 2019 at 8:17 PM ^
Holy cow, good catch and nice little easter egg there by Matt D. Makes me a feel a little less bad about losing him to Texas Tech
November 11th, 2019 at 8:29 PM ^
I was wondering what the boxes area at the top of the article meant as far as this article was concerned. Now it makes sense. Even a kid where there's a family relationship involves money to another team.
November 11th, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
Holy cow it even works on Samsung phone! Nice Easter egg and yea honestly, it makes sense as a big reason. Lubbock fucking Texa$, man.
November 11th, 2019 at 10:13 PM ^
Theres also one in the "In a move that was expected" part of the Happy Trails to Moses Moody
November 12th, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
Just came to comment on this!
beautiful execution!
November 11th, 2019 at 8:32 PM ^
Juwan will have to wade through the cess pool of dirty recruiting and find talented kids that aren't on the take. I know Beileins recruiting style wasnt always the best and well received but I'm sure he saw all of this as well and steered clear of it for the most part.
November 11th, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
Christopher moving his visit date up can only be a good thing or at least I’ll let myself believe that. I think either Lander reclasses if we miss on Christopher or we land Zaire Wade who looks like a late bloomer so might be a great pickup. Hopefully, Dickinson will commit soon and we have 3 top 60 guys!
November 11th, 2019 at 9:37 PM ^
I still believe more than others, Christopher is seriously looking at the Wolverines. I think Isaiah Todd is in his ear. If we can land Josh, look out because a bunch of players would instantly put us on their list.
November 11th, 2019 at 10:20 PM ^
I cannot see this class holding Todd. I’d be amazed.
November 11th, 2019 at 11:48 PM ^
Damn, Josh Christopher is built like a man.
November 11th, 2019 at 11:51 PM ^
There need$ to be more of these....
November 12th, 2019 at 9:14 AM ^
Matt has been in touch with Burnett throughout this whole thing. I think he knows exactly what happened and he's hinted at it. Good ol' Chicago recruiting.
