Lets get it Dusty!! Go Blue!!

The top 3 players from FAU are set to be graduate transfers hopefully they decide to follow him. Guard Johnell Davis looks to be a great player 18 points a game and shoots41% from 3. 2nd guy is a 7 foot 1 inch center who averaged almost 16 points 7 reb with 2 blocks. Best games seem to be in the tournaments. 3rd guy has averaged 14 as a soph and 13plus a game last 2 years. Shoots many 3s at a decent clip.

That would be a beautiful thing.
Sweet, so we can have a coach and a team that can't beat northwestern.
FAU lost to 9-seed Northwestern in overtime and you’re acting like they went 0-5 against them or something.
There’s critiquing a coaching hire and then there’s just being a troll.
C'mon Ham -- I think Jonsey was just being funny....lol
I think it is a great hire and a fresh start....go blue!!
I suppose they were *trying* to be funny, but yes i negvote unfunny jokes
I'll admit that's a possibility. But based on his posting history and now negative he is about this hire, my assumption is that he's being at least semi-serious.
It was mostly a joke. All jokes have a shred of truth, the shred of truth in this one is they did lose to NW which isnt exactly a B1G powerhouse and that I didn't realize how awful FAU was before he joined and preferred the other options in Brian's top 4. But the more people have dug into him the more he sounds like new Beilein and I'm excited about the hire.

We also have a coach who, in the last three months, beat Arizona, as well as a number of teams roughly in Northwestern's class (Texas A&M, and VaTech, Butler).
Was checking their roster and noticed the same thing. I actually think it's 4 starters who should be available as grad transfers, if they've graduated in 4 years. (Lots of people go to college for 7 years!)
We’ve come a long way since everyone laughed at Bluto’s “7 years of college down the drain.” Not sure it has been movement in the right direction.
Lots of people go to college for seven years.
Yeah, they're called redshirt + covidshirt + medshirt ncaa athletes.
March 24th, 2024 at 10:14 AM ^
Or they are called doctors.
Go Blue!!!!
7 years, those are rookie numbers, Cam McCormick is pulling his 9th year. Gotta bump those years up!
March 24th, 2024 at 11:46 AM ^
Now if this doesn't happen I'm coming after you for getting me excited... watch your back.
March 24th, 2024 at 12:51 PM ^
This would make for a heck of a start. I'm sure it's in the works
10 years ago I'd have expected grad transfers to follow their coach, especially if they went to a big named school like UM. However, now in the age of NIL and teams opening their wallets for hired guns I'll be surprised if they do. Don't blame them either.
Man, I hope I'm wrong though.

Looks like Louisville insiders were saying it was a done deal Dusty was going there. Warde outmaneuvered them. Hell yea, Warde!

Seems like a solid hire. Hope he can handle the pressure and expectations that come with big-time college basketball. Although he's had a lot of success over the past few years, FAU didn't really play anyone, night in and night out. His recruiting and coaching acumen will be tested in the Big-Ten. I wanted Warde to pull the brinks truck up and make Jay Wright or Calipari an offer they couldn't refuse. But, I think Michigan and Warde have grown tired of coaches who's persona's loom bigger than him or the program itself. Love Harbaugh and I wish he had stayed but I think pandering to him for so long left a bad taste in the mouth of Michigan and it's fans, and Warde really didn't want any parts of another one. I'll be rooting for Ol' Dusty, Go Blue!!!!!

Calipari can't coach and the NIL era has mitigated the large recruiting advantage he used to have. Hence he has only one NCAA tourney game win the past 5 years. Cal is washed.

"FAU didn't really play anyone, night in and night out."
The AAC was the 9th best conference in the NET this year and FAU played, TAMU, Arizona, Illinois in the non-con, as well as teams like Butler and Va Tech
" I wanted Warde to pull the brinks truck up and make Jay Wright or Calipari an offer"
So two guys that absolutely were not coming to UM?
Saying the AAA is the 9th best conference isn't exactly defeating his point about not playing anyone.
To be clear I like the hire though.

I'm not mad at the hire either as I stated previously. I knew that a handful of folks would find a way to make my entire post about Calipari or Jay Wright when it's really not. While I'm sure those guys seem to think this is a slam dunk hire, I'm not convinced of that yet. Because the two guys I mentioned have track records of winning on the biggest stages possible (including having won championships), I would have loved to have had one of them instead. We can agree to disagree about whether my guys or their guy is a better coach or if FAU playing Rice, NTSA, N. Texas and Tulane is top notch competition, night in and night out. I think most people would would say I'm correct and some of you are high on K2. The point was that although I'm not convinced and I would have liked for them to go after others using the money cannon, I support UM either way it goes and I will be rooting for Dusty.

You seriously thought Calipari and Wright were options.? why not Coach K?
March 24th, 2024 at 12:58 AM ^
You can say that again!
Why not Popovich? If it's all just a matter of "backing up the brinks truck." Why do people even say that like that's all that needs to be done.

You'd be surprised at what people are willing do if enticed properly. Ask Harbaugh why he came to Michigan and why he left. Ask Wink Martindale why he came out of retirement . . . A million dollars more per year, is a lot of money.. Money talks and Bull-Shit walks.

“FAU didn’t play anyone”
I should have just stopped reading after this. But instead I got to read fan fiction about Cal and Jay Wright!
With all due respect the bar is pretty low right now with nobody really caring about Michigan basketball. He could win 4 games next year and people would understand because of our roster. If he goes .500 he would be pretty beloved
March 24th, 2024 at 11:09 AM ^
Harbaugh came through to what he promised, He delivered us a national championship. It is so rare to get the job done in the BCS and the 4 team playoff format. If may be easier in the 12 team format. But Harbaugh completed his mission here and wanted to try the NFL again.
March 24th, 2024 at 11:32 AM ^
I agree that that was a part of it. The other part of it was that some in UM circles thought he had too much power and was glad to see him go because he was seen as a diva who threatened their own job security. I don't think they would dare hire someone else with that type of presence. They're probably happier he's gone than he is.
March 23rd, 2024 at 11:27 PM ^
Warde didnt outmaneuver anyone. Warde outpaid UL. It's that simple. Fine by me. Capitalism at it's finest. How the system should work.

March 24th, 2024 at 12:08 AM ^
you don't know that
March 24th, 2024 at 12:30 AM ^
If the Louisville folks were correct that he were on the verge of signing with them, then Warde swooping in at the 11th hour and closing the deal is, I would say, outmaneuvering Louisville.
And Balas is saying it wasn't money.
It was the alumni network and support, it was Beilein joining Warde, it was Santa going all in, and it was the vision Warde shared about the program.
Also it wasn't an 11th hour thing, they met with Warde at 10am yesterday.
...so acting like Michigan just paid him more money is stupid. People have already reported it was much more than that.
If all it takes is money to bring him, money can make him leave. I'm glad we take our time and invest where we can real longterm dividends.
A look at Dusty ball...

In this day and age, May can build a team in a single off season. Bring on the FAU transfers and many others.
Good hire. Hope for a Beline type of run now
better than a Feline type run
Agreed; Feline's teams always played like pussies.....
and we know how Brian feels about felinesball

As Borat might say, "very nice."
March 23rd, 2024 at 10:53 PM ^
cat-and-shoot
...ok ok i'm done sorry
March 23rd, 2024 at 11:36 PM ^
Don’t feel sorry. This is the kind of hard hitting analysis I come here for
Guess I'd better make a beeline to the ticket office for next season...
We asked Warde to get us a winner. Come what may...
wait...
May come. What?

It's a controversial choice, but anything can happen if we BELIEVE.
Boom
