Trey Pierce Has Committed to Michigan
The Wolverines have successfully flipped one of the two Chicago DTs they were trying to pry out of Wisconsin's class.

Roderick "Trey" Pierce III is a bit different that most of his classmates in that he's closer to the finished product. Already 6'3"/290, he's considered a high-floor DT who can play any of the spots on the line. He's the one I was referring to as a possible immediate replacement for Rooks's projected role. Allen Trieu even praises his pad level(!!) Illinois had him on campus earlier this week.
We're catching up on 2023 hellos so we'll get to Pierce's this week, probably Friday. Michigan is still trying to reel in Pierce's fellow DT Jamel Howard out of Marist, who's more of a pure nose prospect.

Blue! People keep forgetting the blue at the end. Great to have him aboard.

Go Blue! Welcome Trey!
Edit: I haven't watched a second of film, but this write-up and those measurables give strong Donovan Jeter vibes.

I love Jeter but the fact that he has so start was as couple dark years in the line. Also, they have nothing in common, Jeter was pretty small or of high school.

Welcome aboard, Go Blue!

I mentioned this on the other thread as well. Wisconsin DTs have been legit. He also was offered by Illinois staff prior to their prior to their DC departure in addition to by Texas. He rose a lot of in the rankings during his senior year now to about ~50th DL in nation and 47th on 247 is a 4* for example. I wouldn’t be surprised if he climbed further on the final rankings.

Great news!!

Welcome Trey!!!
Get ready to play with an a-maize-ing defense đź’Ş.

Outstanding news! Coach Elston doing a great job on and off the field.

I know a lot of people aren’t happy with the 2023 class but when I scan through it, it has the exact type of players that Harbaugh wants to win with. He wants to win in the trenches. The only thing we need to shore up is cornerback and it would have been nice to land a 2023 quarterback. As long as JJ stays his senior year, and Jadyn comes, we are going to be fine at quarterback. I like all of the other pieces to this class so far though. Be nice to land Jyaire Hill for sure though.

Bell was QB, and likely is the “qb” for the class though he likely will change positions
December 14th, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
Yep, and I’m ok with that as long as Jadyn comes in 2024
December 14th, 2022 at 10:19 PM ^
I’m starting to worry about Davis coming to be honest and wonder if it may end up being a grad transfer/portal situation with a lower ranked qb from the class.
December 15th, 2022 at 10:28 AM ^
You starting to worry because of what? Any specific reason?
December 15th, 2022 at 12:46 AM ^
Jadyn has been comin forever now. I doubt he ends up in our class. He gives off vibes as if he’s tryin hard to find somethin better than Michigan and eventually he’ll just go somewhere else. We should circle back to Dante moore
December 15th, 2022 at 10:30 AM ^
He is 2024.
December 15th, 2022 at 8:23 AM ^
JJ is here for next year & then he’s gone to the NFL. No senior year for him. His measurables will make him a certain pro prospect. His unmeasurables will make him a pretty high draft pick.

I don't pay a whole lot of attention to who may or may not be coming -- I trust it'll all work itself out. But if there's one thing we've learned from the Ohio State rivalry over the past decade -- hell, for the past four decades -- is that quarterback matters. O'Korn, injured Speight, Rudock (whom I frankly loved), simply won't cut it.
In other words, this may be the one position where we can't replace out-and-out talent with hustle, sacrifice, and team attitude. So ... I don't know or care which 4* or 5* Harbaugh gets, but man, I hope they're working it hard. Nothing else matters if we can't get a superior athlete in the door.
(I recognize in some ways the 2021 result is a counter-example, but ... I think relying on a ground game to be that efficient against that kind of Ohio State offense is ... a shaky plan. And it sure ran into a brick wall against Georgia. Gotta have the stud at QB).
(This ends my "yeah, obviously" post of the week).

Phrase gives me flashbacks to osu kids talkin smack at the beginning of the tress years. Beyond glad we can now apply it to M

Nice pickup from Elston, who's doing great this cycle.
Excited for Pierce and the glut of interior linemen this team suddenly has.
December 14th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
Welcome!
December 14th, 2022 at 10:38 PM ^
You'll like going to the playoffs, Trey.

We share a bday
December 15th, 2022 at 9:47 AM ^
He's already bigger than Rooks and like you said more ready to contribute as a down lineman in their 3 man front. Wouldn't be surprised to see him play a few snaps every game.

QB, DT, OL. The most important positions in football.

Alternatively, MB is the most important position in football.

I remember when DT scarcity was a huge recruiting hole for Michigan. Glad we are still n a much better place there! Welcome Comrade Trey!
