If you had told me before the game started that our D would only give up 26 points, I would have taken it and expected a win. The D was soft, but it held up in the redzone most of the day. The offense was missing for 3 quarters. Despite the fumbles, dropped passes, bad snaps, and an offensive line that was overmatched all day we still had chance at the end. I'm disappointed, but not despondent like I was after losses in 07 and 08.
In my lifetime, no Michigan player has had a bigger game than Tuka's 1995 effort against OSU. I can't believe he hasn't gotten any love.
He's my tailback, with Tony Boles as my back-up. Boles could have been so very special, but for the knee injury.
It was a long time ago and my memories from that era are a little hazy, but from what I recall Crawford brought the ball up the court and ran the offense. He also jacked up about 30 shots per game and was a black hole. But man, could that kid play ball.
I don't think Michigan's academic acceptance standards for athletes are much tougher than any other D1 school (unfortunately). If he was NCAA eligible, I think he would have been accepted.
If what you say is true, then hats off to Coach Rod.
The "Michigan Man" thing gets lame when used too freely, I admit. Its almost cheesy now, but my point was that guys who transfer out before the end of their first semester won't be missed for long. You don't bail when shit gets rough, you gotta sack-up and be a player. I shouldn't have questioned Sam's man-hood, thats just me being pissed we're losing a great RB. I hope he stays and scores 3 TD's this week and forgets all about leaving A^2.
A man wouldn't leave his team before the season was over, he would stay and see the thing through until the end. People like to talk about football as a "teaching game", and the biggest lesson you can learn is perseverence. You don't quit, ever. When you commit to a school and a program you also commit to your teammates. Any player worth a shit would stay and complete the season. There is a reason Bo's famous quote hangs over the door to the practice field. "Those who stay will be Champions" means more than championship rings. You also build integrity, character, and the respect of the men you work with and for. If he goes, he goes. Best of luck, he wasn't a Michigan Man.
1. Worst in-person loss. 1996 vs. Northwestern. We were up 16-0, ranked #5 and undefeated 5-0. 17 unanswered points later, we go home embarassed. Long drive home from that one.
2. 1991 vs. Florida State. They blew us right off the field, they were faster. Much, much faster.
3. 2002 vs Ohio State. 14-9. We got screwed out of a touchdown.
4. 2006 Ohio State. #1 vs. #2. Shawn Crable --Why the late hit? Why? 42-39. ARRRGGH!
5. 1990 MSU. THAT WAS INTERFERENCE! WHERE'S THE FLAG? ARRRRGH!
Our offense will, at times, look ugly. I think starting a young QB and OL will do that. What we do have is talent, speed, and an offensive genius running the ship.
This team will probably lose 4 games, but the real question in my mind is how will this team respond after losses? Lloyd's teams always managed to come back and put together winning seasons after a tough early loss.
The expectations are low, but with an innovative new coaching philosophy, a (much needed) new S&C philosophy, renevations to the stadium, Schembechler Hall, and a new indoor football-only practice facility this team is poised to be the elite team in DIV I for years to come.
My advice, enjoy the beginning of a new era in Michigan Football.
