I don't know how long ago…

I don't know how long ago that would have been, but frankly I disagree. While I have no interest or desire to get anywhere near campus, I've been obliged to spend much of the last month (and will spend much of December) in Columbus as my company sets up our service there, actually in the area directly around COSI and Capitol Square. It seems like a nice-enough place...too polished and modern for me to really like, but I have no quarrel with the city writ large. But of course being the state's largest (and probably newest) big city, but lacking an NFL team, you get the sort of NFL-fan jabrons who want to ruin everything. I do very much relish the thought of going back in December and triumphantly wearing my Maize & Blue if the boys are able to steal it this weekend in the Horseshoe.

Your 4th bullet is a good…

Your 4th bullet is a good point, but how would you respond to the assertion that such policy traps people in their own homes? If, say, you had a fairly large home to support your family but want to downsize after your kids leave, you may be trapped unless you're willing to leave the city altogether. So you end up with an epidemic of people occupying woefully underutilized space and property, or passing it down to the next generation. This entrenches the wealthy (or formerly-wealthy) while making it impossible for aspiring homeowners to enter the market.

Thanks for the post, Brian…

Thanks for the post, Brian. I love Ann Arbor, but my wife and I might never be able to afford to actually live there. Happily she's an alumna of EMU, and we both love Ypsilanti, so we bought our house there. What worries me is that much of the problems that Ann Arbor is facing and has been shrugging off for years are beginning to creep into Ypsilanti as well. Except here it's less about wealthy boomers and more about low-income folks of all types being priced-out. There needs to be more development and quality affordable housing to accommodate the people who want and need to live near their work.

Is there anyone on the staff…

Is there anyone on the staff (or affiliated with) that really pays much attention to US Soccer? I know Ace is huge into the NBA, and with the dearth of other Michigan sportsball going on, coverage of the NBA playoffs kind of made sense. But given that the USMNT has little relevance to a Michigan blog, and the general lack of soccer aptitude here since I've been reading it, I wouldn't imagine seeing one. Does Brian pay a lot of attention to the national/international landscape?

Re: Etc.

That article about cronyism in academia, and particularly at MSU, is worrisome. While I'd like to sit here and bask in my superiority in having a diploma from Michigan and not MSU, I won't kid myself - public institutions, particularly those who depend on their public image and patronage from wealthy alumni and other benefactors, are all inclined to deal in underhanded and sleazy ways to protect themselves. UM's practices surrounding FOIA compliance is already a good example of the sort of warning signs you might expect surrounding a culture of institutionalized misconduct, and I'd be remiss if I didn't say it worries me.

At this point that's sort of old news. Still annoying, but oh, well.

I'm pleased to see that the MGoArmy has helped the cause over on reddit. The damned Buckeyes can't win forever. Hopefully we can swing the game in our favor or - at least - ensure that our allies win with cruelty over the hateful Reds.

Was at the BG Game

BG came out swinging hard and fast. The defense looked uncharacteristically lost at the beginning of the game, and BG scored two goals in quick succession in the first, then another within the first 20 seconds of the second period. La Fontaine didn't look particularly sharp, but then again BG lived in the Michigan zone for most of the first half of the game. Eventually they figured it out, but it's hard to rally from a 3-0 deficit with any regularity.

Mills clip

Has anyone else noticed the fact that in the "Mills" video clip, the receiver apparently drops the ball at the 2-yard line? Was that called a Touchdown in context? Craziness.

42-7 Michigan.

Defense and special teams contribute 21 points. Go Blue!
