I think this is my second comment on this website, but maybe I can be a little helpful. We already started in my town in Arizona. We are a couple hours away from the hotspots so our prevalence is probably closer to Michigan's infection rate. We set up a pod with two other families and have pooled our resources to hire a recent college graduate to keep the kids on task and help answer their questions. We all have the same general rules that we follow, including the recent grad, and though our risk is higher together, it is much lower than on-site schooling and protects the teachers. I assume that we will follow this model till late Fall.
My advice is to look at job postings that he would want to pursue post graduation. What degrees do they prefer? Just engineering or specifically mechanical or aerospace. Also, strongly consider going to grad school. You can ask grad department staff what degree types they look for. They tend to be more open as physics majors can go on to a graduate degree in engineering. Good luck.
We used Santa Cruise tours for airport pickup/drop off and private tours in the Cape Town area. I highly recommend going the private tour route - either them or another operator. And eat the seafood.
As a fellow alum and Arizona resident and Michigan alum, I would like to make another suggestion. Consider Flagstaff. A lot of similarities between Flag and Ann Arbor, plus you are only 2 hours from the valley. Good luck whatever you decide.
