Knock it off. I'm not even a…

Knock it off. I'm not even a UM fan... and this statement is stupid. Michigan is a top program. History matters. Endowment matters... the biggest rivalry in sport matters. The top 3 salary UM shells out for a coach matters. The size of the stadium matters. The quality of the institution matters.

Do you think Clemson deserves to be platinum more than Michigan before hiring Dabo? Do you think Iowa State deserves to have a better coach than UM atm?

Again I'm not even a UM fan. Your football program is the equivalent of who you hire. Get a good coach. It might be hard, but you pay your AD an insane amount of money for a reason.

It won't help. Money isn't…

It won't help. Money isn't the issue.

This is the dividing line between amazing and just good coaches.

Every year someone hires the next hot coach, see: Tom Herman, Charlie Strong, Chip Kelly, Charlie Weiss, nearly every coach at every power 5 job was once "the hot new coach". Eventually working hard is not worth the money when you have a ton.

Urban Meyer is great because no matter how much money he has, his brain almost explodes and he has to go to the hospital or retire after a loss. He has publicly said he can't emotionally handle losing.

That is what you need. Not more financial incentives. Watch a Nick Saban press conference.... his millions are no comfort after a loss... he probably secretly goes into the streets afterwards and just kills a few people.

I'm sorry but your comment…

I'm sorry but your comment is why Michigan is weak. Hard things are hard. It would be really hard to hire Urban Meyer, or Pete Carroll or Nick Saban, or insert NFL coach here, or other great college coach here. Urban Meyer had just retired when OSU hired him, Pete was at USC when Seattle hired him, Nick was formerly Alabama's rival's head coach.... and on and on and on and on.... Getting an A+ grade coach is hard. Thankfully we pay an AD millions of dollars... so if he can't get it done he should be fired. If Michigan can't get an A+ coach its the fault of Michigan. We aren't victims in this life.

This is the definition of…

This is the definition of weak. People too afraid to do the right thing because hard things are hard. As someone who rooted for OSU during the Urban Meyer era, UM deserves better. If your coach is getting a pay cut your coach isn't UM quality. Getting a better coach would be hard and expensive. It doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.

This is sad.

this is what happens when…

this is what happens when you live in an echo chamber your whole life lol. you make the most strained connection imaginable to fit your narrative.

My gosh man wake up.

The guy is defending Michigan in front of a national audience and giving hope to UM football fans that they can still compete at the highest level.

He is even complimenting Harbaugh who he had a rivalry with. What more do you want the man to do....

As a total outsider... I…

As a total outsider... I think this sentiment that richrod failed at Michigan is just bizarre. It is something I universally hear from Michigan fans. But I just don't get it at all.

I get that his style of spread didn't fit michigan at the time... that being said, every year he won 2 games more than the previous year... the trajectory of the program was a rocket ship.

If Michigan had kept rich rodriguez they would have been a modern football team a long time ago.

Some coaches like Urban, or maybe just urban actually, can turn a program around overnight. But when you hire a hot coach who is improving markedly every year and then fire him it just makes no sense.

The whole thing is compounded by Rich Rod's history... at West Virginia he won 3 games his first season, in years 5,6 and 7 he was 32-5.

He was 8-4 in his fourth year at west virginia and at Michigan they didn't even give him that long.

As a former ohio state fan…

As a former ohio state fan and current non-fan of any program currently I will say the echo chamber is real. If you were an ohio state fan, you know meyer got cleared (and not just in words but there is solid evidence on his side in everything involving the Zach Smith stuff).

Likewise, its undeniable Meyer had tons of player issues at Florida... However, what most people don't know is that he had recently (recent to his time at Florida) had a troubled player leave and commit suicide, so by policy he was keeping players that were coming from bad situations in the program to try and reform them instead of kick them out... something he admits didn't entirely work. He was also a really young coach then, and at OSU had very very very few player problems as he just got better striking the balance.

a few other notes... the health issues are real but they are also stress / pyschologically driven. When he went to the hospital for the brain cyst following the Alabama loss at Florida he always only mentioned that the hospital visit ws because of the cyst. Since then he has admitted it was because of the cyst but that was triggered by his mental health issues which are caused by his inability to cope with losing.

In reality this is what makes meyer such a great coach... his head explodes if he loses. he admittedly can't handle it.

Tom Herman, Charlie Strong were both great hires at Texas... I think really good coaches lose motivation when money starts flowing in though. With Meyer that never happens which is why his win/loss record is so rare.

Personally I hope he comes to Michigan, however small the chance might be, because if you were around OSU during his time there, it does seem like the truth is he was asked to leave for political correctness reasons and I think he deserves revenge.

Matt Campbell has 27 losses…

Matt Campbell has 27 losses in his few years as Iowa St. Head Coach.

Here are a few facts,

Last year USC fans were calling for Matt Rhule and Dave Aranda to be their HC,

They are a combined 4 - 12 this year in their new gigs.

a few years ago the hot names were Chip Kelly and Tom Herman they are a combined 38 -36 and that is at resource heavy UCLA and Texas.

The fact is, every program hires a "hot assistant" or the "hot group of 5" coach, and is somehow surprised when they get the same result as every other program. Some coaches have a good year or even a good few years. Rarely does the hot new coach end up the next Urban Meyer or Nick Saban.

It turns out if you want an Urban Meyer or Nick Saban you have to actually be willing to pay an insane sum and hire them.

FWIW, josh perry, one of Urban's most popular players at OSU indicated the other day that he thinks Urban is for sale atm, but he needs: 10-12m per year, a blank check for assistants, and total control of everything including overhauling and building new facilities. So you are looking at about a 200 million dollar purchase when it is all over.

If you want Urban Meyer results... that's the Urban Meyer price.

this is true, the hatred for michigan isn't real
