Great match. Pitt took the first set, Michigan responded with the next two. Pitt evened it up,. Pitt had some good momentum closing out the 4th set pretty strong, but Michigan came out on fire in the 5th and never let up.

Also advancing to the Sweet 16 are #6 Wisconsin (3-1 over Pepperdine), #8 Penn State (3-0 over Syracuse), and #7 Nebraska (3-0 over Missouri).

#3 Illinois leads Louisville 2-1 and are in the 4th set.

#2 Minnesota is up 2-0 over South Carolina.

Big Ten should have 6 teams in the Sweet 16, including teams ranked 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8. They only rank up to #16 in the tournament for some reason, but Michigan is ranked #18.

Looks like we get #5 Texas in the next round. Good team. They've lost 4 matches - to #1 Stanford twice, #6 Wisconsin, and Kansas.

My next door neighbor is good enough to get a volleyball scholarship at at mid level school.  Even there, volleyball is a “full time job” and she won’t have time for a class schedule that will allow time for the degree she want (per her dad).  Got to tip your hat to anyone playing a sport in college.

Excellent job fighting back twice in the match.  The blocking was excellent in the final set.

Carly Skjodt is becoming one of my all-time favorite players.  (Juliana Paz is #1).

Since it sounds like highest seed will host sweet 16 and elite eight, this is how it breaks down:

Stanford Region (Palo Alto)

  • #1 Stanford vs. 16 Washington State
  • #8 Penn State vs Washington (swept #9 Creighton)

Minnesota Region (Minneapolis)

  • #2 Minnesota vs. #15 Oregon
  • #7 Nebraska vs. #10 Kentucky

Illinois Region (Champaign)

  • #3 Illinois vs. #14 Marquette
  • #6 Wisconsin vs. San Diego (swept #11 USC)

BYU Region (Provo)

  • #4 BYU vs. Florida (beat FGCU, which upset #13 UCF in first round)
  • #5 Texas vs. Michigan (upset #12 Pitt)

All games will be played 12/7, times TBD.

Elite 8 games will be on 12/8.
