Women's Hoops Standings Update/Conference Title Scenarios.
Iowa beat Indiana tonight 88-82. Was a hell of a game, eventually Iowa just fouled out all of Indiana's bigs and dominated the paint. Caitlin Clark hates Nicole Cardano Hillary and kept elbowing her face (only called for it once).
Anyway, means we're up a game in the loss column. Standings are weird because of missing COVID games (our gimme against Illinois really hurts, if we had gotten that made up we could clinch Thursday, I think).
- Michigan (12-3) MSU/@Iowa left
- Iowa (12-4) at Rutgers/Michigan left
- Maryland (12-4) Indiana left
- Ohio State (12-4) PSU/@MSU left
- Indiana (12-4) @Maryland left
We have tiebreakers over everybody because we're 2-0 against Maryland and 1-0 against everybody else, though that could change for Iowa, obviously.
Michigan controls its own destiny. If they drop a game they need an OSU loss and an Iowa loss.
OSU should have the tiebreaker on Iowa, so they win if they win both games this week and we drop a game.
Iowa needs to win out and get an OSU loss.
Maryland/IU winner is missing a game so need Michigan to lose both, Iowa to lose to Rutgers, and OSU to drop a game. They are probably eliminated.

KBA, Naz, and crew are having a season to remember. If you haven’t watched this team play yet, you should tune in. They are passionate and they are awesome.

so if we win one out of two, at worst, we are B10 co-champions who win the tie-breaker?

Help….. Michigan should at least clinch a share of the title with a win over Sparty, right? Lol I’m confuse.

Can't clinch because of the uneven number of games. Michigan beats MSU but loses to Iowa, they're 13-4. 14-4 OSU or Iowa would have a better winning percentage so they would win the conference.
If we could schedule a makeup game with Illinois and kick the shit out of them (they're 1-11), that would get us there.
But somehow I doubt the Illinois AD is going to do us that solid since they're still pissy about the men's side last year.

If we beat MSU dont we clinch at least a Share of the title? that would give us a 1 game lead with 1 to go..the last game at Iowa looks daunting...but even if we lose that game we share the title and I believe we get the #1 seed because we own tie breakers over all the teams we would tie with and Iowa we split it could b e a 3 or 4 team tie ..in that scenario the more the better because of our head to head records so if its a 3 way or more tie we get the top seed

We would clinch if Iowa and PSU lose their midweek games and we beat MSU. PSU is kinda frisky lately (beat Sparty at Breslin tonight), but Rutgers is terrible so seems unlikely.

Looks like we need to win out to get a banner.

As great as Naz Hillmon is, Michigan's women's basketball team is just not the same without starting guard Leigha Brown. Brown hasn't played due to a leg injury since January 31. The women are 2-2 while Brown has been available.

neither one of those teams plays defense worth a crap. cardano-hillary is the closest thing either team has to an adequate defender, and she does it only by getting away with a stunning level of clutching and grabbing. think brad davison without the crew cut.

Not playing that game with Illinois really hurts us. Look at the top 5 teams, we are the only team that beats other 4 teams. Hopefully they can reschedule the Illinois game and we can comfortably win the title after beating MSU and Illinois.

Thank you for this summary and the perspective on remaining games!
Obviously it's best if we win out, and that final game at Iowa looms large.
