I would think so as well. He's not a guy you would want covering anyone. He'd be useful: 1. Plowing into the D Line; 2. Perhaps he can do something in zone defense.

Furbush basically receded once teams realized that he was just a fourth DL. Not clear to me that Mason would be any different, but perhaps that's the only way to get on the field.

Furbush and Mason aren’t anything alike.  Furbush is a longer more cerebral guy and Mason is a mauling instinctive killer.  Furbush can’t squat 300 and Ben squats like 600.  Ben Mason doesn’t have a natural position on defense at Michigan. He should stick to FB and transfer to like a Stanford if Michigan has no meaningful role for a FB going forward.

Everyone here is talking about Mason at LB, but I think he'd play DE if he did get more time on D. He's about Chase's size right now. He's not a Don Brown LB. If he gets on the field on defense, I'd guess it's on the line.

Ben Mason is probably the best pure football player at Michigan.  Could he play DE ?  Sure could probably better than Winovich.  But I think he stays at FB and gets drafted reasonably high.  He is a huge Patriots fan and would be a perfect fit at New England playing FB and STs.

It’s my understanding that Ben Mason will be trying out DT this spring.   The fullback is non existent in this offense.

BVS and Hassan Haskins will both get reps at RB this spring,  BVS will also continue to get reps at LB.  Both of these guys are way more athletic than Devin Gill who will have to fight hard for time after being exposed at the end of the year.

I seem to remember that he wanted to play some defense last spring too but he sustained an injury and had to miss sometime. When he recovered there was no time for him time work with the offense and the defense.
