Who as a Michigan insider can we trust the most?

Submitted by The Wolverine … on
Who is the most trusted Michigan Football insider that we can trust with the AD and coaching search talk going on? I don't know the reason why Gregg Henson so hated on here, I just discovered him recently. John U Bacon seems to be changing his thoughts about who Michigan will hire a little lately.

Funny because the whole situation is cause Miles called out Carr for stealing McCartney's brother's wife. That is the source of all the resentment from Carr and the reason that McCartney who along with Miles was Bo's best two coaching prospects stay out of Ann Arbor. Carr has tainted people with so many false stories to cover up his own disgressions it's almost sickening.

Why would Brandon,Bo,Carr and Les be on a recruiting conference call? Brandon wasn't even Athletic Director till 2010. So why would the head of Domino's pizza be in a conference call about Michigan football recruiting? Sorry but Balas posting that is almost laughable and makes zero sense.

Oh I am a great position to judge. I don't lie nor do I feel the need to be some insider or message board hero. I tell what I heard to share information. If you think the regents don't have a vested interest in the coaching decision than you're either a idiot or a moron. I am sure you pry sit at home believing every word of people who never name there sources and post dribble that could amount to a dozen different outcomes that they can claim they were saying. I offered the info I heard and who I heard from. Maybe that is your problem by me doing that it breaks your magical message board world were people with cool board names are magically giving hidden messages of truths.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, as much as I respect the mods' decision to disagree: Gregg Henson was in the Detroit media market long enough to cultivate a number of reliable sources on Michigan athletics. What he does with those sources is another thing altogether, but he's not Ace Williams.

And to address criticisms of John Bacon, I've gotten a chance to get to know him over the years from taking his classes and hanging around office hours enough to become a minor nuisance. And I can tell you that one big thing I've taken away is that what he says on the radio is about 25% of what he knows. Some things you can talk to him about one on one, and other things you know what he probably knows, but he's not going to tell you. This guy is extraordinarily well connected, but often has information he just can't disclose because either it was told in confidence or it isn't verifiable to the extent one can report. That's the stuff we'd all love to hear on WTKA, but that's not the kind of journalist he is.

I guess you can say Bacon is the 180 from Henson, in that he doesn't share everything and anything he knows just to get clicks--and as a result, people attack him as out of touch or out of the loop.

And to those who complain that he's on the radio too much, it's a function of his success that he can be called upon on such a regular basis by media outlets looking for another voice on Michigan athletics. He's articulate and knowledgable, and can be counted on to give a great interview. His job and livelihood are doing things like that, even if he can't go out and drop the smoking gun/blockbuster information people want to hear. He knows enough not to put his foot in his mouth with half-baked information or speculation passed off as fact. He's up front about what he does and doesn't know.

Sam Webb and John U. Bacon will still be working in Michigan and covering Michigan Athletics when the dust settles.  They make their living covering Michigan or working at Michigan.  They have to be much more cautious when revealing what they know or don't know.

On the other hand Gregg Henson is not a journalist and can be more open about what he knows.

To me this is the difference between blogs/twitter and the mainstream media.  Sometimes you get good quality information much faster through blogs/twitter, but try figuring out the truth from the nonsense.  If you hear it in the media, then you at least know there are several sources that have confirmed it.

I think Henson probably has some solid sources, but the situation is fluid and takes interest from both parties.  He is also not constrained by the traditional media approach.  Hope he is right about JH and hope UM is truely interested.

If ever there was a seemingly perfect match, this is the one!

For inside information on the AD search, and filling what we all assume to be a head coaching vacancy is none other than Jim "the Hatchet Man" Hackett....anyone claiming they know which direction this is heading is simply full of s--t and just speculation and conjecture!

Please help me out here. I have been a member at scout for some years. Half of the info shared there, well the Beavers, is contradictory to what is often shared here. Has anyone at Mgoblog actually seen this guy at practices, pressers, in schimmy, etc? He has a lot of blowhards and I'd really like to know if he is even around the program. Comments?

I have two really good inside sources.  One source has his family name on one of the buildings on campus (most of you know the building).  Last year, they told me that a sizable portion of donors were getting "antsy" with Brady Hoke, enough so that Brandon started putting out feelers for a new coach before this season.  (in a similar fashion he did for Nuss).  I told the board this, and I got negged to Mexico City (not quite Bolivia).  According to them, Brandon's leash was getting short and he ABSOLUTELY could not mess up the next hire (if it came to that).  One guy told me about a week before DB's "resignation" that he was going to be let go in the next couple weeks.   What I'm trying to say is that these guys know some juicy tidbits and they have been right about several things in the past.  I trust them.

So, what are they telling me now regarding our current situation.  Bubcus!  One guy says he doesn't know much, and the other clearly knows something but won't tell me.

Be posting on the internet. All I know, I was told some things by AA businessmen about six weeks ago. First prediction was true. Number two is due very soon. I'll wait myself to see if he is two for two. His comments settled me down at the time. The future is bright ... finally .

I also received some information from what I consider a very reliable source around November 1st that calmed my nerves about the future of the program. It is possible that the information is incorrect, but I highly doubt it. Suffice it to say that Michigan fans will be very happy if the information is true. Here's to a bright future...Go Blue.

I completely understand the criticism, but I figured throwing in my (similar) anecdote on an MGoBoard topic filled with personal opinions, at a time where threads are created discussing nothing but personal opinions regarding our impending coaching search wouldn't hurt.

Unfortunately, I think it would be irresponsible to divulge any information I received in confidence, and I am not sure you would find it interesting anyways since it's essentially unable to be corroborated. I appologize if you find my vague and unsubstantiated post annoying, I was only hoping to engage in some positive discourse about the future of our program rather than participate in the incessant "woe is our program" that seems to be taking over.

I was halfway giving you a hard time. I was reserving judgement based upon your information. I respect your confidences and allegiances - however, if I may read between the lines, the only logical reasoning is that your source has mentioned Jimmy H. Has already agreed in principle to come. This would cooborate Gregg Henson's accounts that Jim H. Is already picking his staff. Just nod if yes.

that he won't interfere with an AD change and "POOF!" Brandon is gone (with a major email scandal assist of course).  And then Stephen Ross says (I'm paraphrasing) - He would rather see Jim Harbaugh coach Michigan.  I believe he will be prophetic again and hope to make a another "POOF POST" soon.

Mr. Ross is my write in candidate for best "most trusted" insider.
